  1. I needed to stick with ground meats for quite a while before I could tolerate "solid" meats
  2. I used to have to threaten my kids to tidy up before the housekeepers came (every 2 weeks). Told the kids that the housekeepers had permission to throw away any toy found on the floor. That usually helped. Didn't do anything for the clothes on the floor though. Kids didn't care if they were thrown out. They'd rather run around naked anyway. We were known in the neighborhood as "that house at the end of the street with the naked children"!
  3. Congrats! It's such a wonderful feeling!
  4. Maybe because smoothies are a lot thicker than regular liquids. I guess they might take longer to exit your pouch. I've never been told that, though. Let us know what your regular NUT says, please!
  5. She might have been trying to spread out your protein, not the actual liquids. Some doctors advise never to take in more than 30g of protein at a time, saying that it can't be absorbed. Other doctors say that the 30g limit isn't correct. If your morning smoothie is very high protein, that may have been her reasoning.
  6. Vitamins/Supplements: Centrum Senior chewable (no iron), or 2 Flintstones Complete (w/iron) on alternate days B12 Biotin, L-lysine sometimes
  7. Wow, you can't handle any sugars at all, can you?
  8. Congrats on your success! How do you feel?
  9. Top weight-loss tip: log it!
  10. You understand that you're dealing with the real Carmen Sandiego, right?
  11. Why do you think that was a bad choice? It's perfectly acceptable in my book!
  12. Hey @FluffyChix maybe this is what you've experienced?
  13. Kathy, I am so sorry. This is beyond tragic. I wish there were any words that would help. I'm praying for you all.
  14. Some people heal more quickly than others. You may still be very swollen inside. It will happen. Good luck!
  15. Are you meeting your protein goals? It doesn't sound like you could be with as little as you're eating. Even though the largest weight loss is in the first 6 months, for VSGers, you continue to lose for 18-24 months, so don't despair - you have time! Good luck!
  16. All my meds right out of the hospital were in pill form and I did not have trouble taking them. If you have issues, crush or check with the pharmacist for a liquid variant.
  17. Call your local hospitals, they usually know who host support groups.
  18. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
  19. Look good! Recipe, please!
  20. How I eat now: Way more protein than I used to eat, and I eat it all day, not just at dinner. Fewer veggies than I'd like, there's just not room. Lots of yogurt. I still eat a lot of soups and stews.
  21. People who haven't gone through this really have no concept of how difficult it is or of how complicated our relationship with food is. What he heard is that "You're not hungry because of the surgery." He doesn't understand how many "homey" foods are tied into our memories and emotions, of times shared with family and friends, of celebrations and sadness. Right now, you're probably mourning not being able to share these experiences in the "normal" way. It will get better when you're healed up. You will be able to share your favorite foods again and enjoy sharing the meal and building new memories. It just takes time and you need to give yourself both time and permission to work through it. At least, this is how it was for me. Hope it gets better for you soon.
