RapidFirePickle got a reaction from si*******on in Diabetic and sleeved
I was on two oral meds, an injectable, and insulin. I was told to stop both orals and the insulin post-op, and I stepped off the injectable within six weeks (dropped from highest to nine during that time. Before surgery I had an A1c of 8.3, now it’s 5.5 with no meds.

RapidFirePickle got a reaction from PudgeBeGone in 2 Weeks post gastric bypass
It would come and go, so just be gentle and do very slow stretches and lots of walking (easy walking unless you are already really fit). Try to keep good posture, standing up as straight as you can without making it too uncomfortable. Hunching will just make it take longer to feel better. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is the only over-the-counter pain relief that is safe post-op, so you can try it. Heating pad may help.

I had tugging pain and cramping in my abdomen near the incisions but inside. Your insides have been rearranged a bit and things are tender and hanging differently. I would be fine and then it would pull. It went away 3-6 weeks post-surgery.

I didn't realize I would take SUCH joy on seeing a number on a scale. I NEVER once imagined I would ever see these numbers!
I didn't realize I would ever become a fashion slave. I LOVE clothes. I ADORE shopping at Goodwill for SIZE 8s!! (Am I yelling? Cuz it feels like I am!)
I never realized I would feel confident and "great" in my outfits!!!

Actually it’s NOT next to impossible to gain muscle during the first year. A lot has to do with how physically active a person was prior to surgery and how active the are after surgery. I’m three months post bypass and have been engaged in weight-bearing exercise and strength training before and after surgery, and I’ve actually increased muscle mass. Physical activity paired with adequate Protein will stave off muscle loss.

I'm 5 months out and as long as the meat isn't too dry I can swallow/digest just fine. Too greasy/fatty makes me very sick. I have eaten nuts and seeds, crunchy vegetables and fruit (apple), and other "tough" foods. I've been very fortunate that I've only had four or five episodes of unhappy pouch, and those were trial and error and not blatant rule-breaking. I have never had a band, but gastric bypass has been relatively smooth and uneventful for me. Good luck and best wishes on your journey.

RapidFirePickle got a reaction from Separ1418 in Is my experience atypical?
I was very sore for the first few days, but having lived with chronic pain I made myself get moving. Within a few days most of the pain was gone, but it took a week or so to really become minimal. I also have not ever had good luck with pain killers, so I only took them when it got really bad, and after Day 3 or 4 I no longer needed any.
Pain is very much an individual experience, which is why they recommend YOU decide how long it will take you to get back to full activity but they won't let you just lay there either.

The reason I mentioned taking her to Anchorage Bariatrics is so they can figure out WHY she can't eat certain foods or get in enough. She may have internal problems that need endoscopy or other imaging to diagnose. She may be nutrient deficient in other ways than just Protein. They can help figure it out and help her get healthy enough to begin working on strength training. Nutrition has to come first, and if she's not getting the right stuff, having a doctor who knows how to help is the first step. They can also answer YOUR questions and concerns about her health. I wouldn't want my husband to worry about me; I'd keep him involved and listen to his concerns and opinions.

Wow, that sounds pretty rough. There are two bariatric doctors in Anchorage - Dr. Sean Lee and Dr. Justin Clark at Anchorage Bariatrics. I know them; they are the doctors that got me this far in my journey. Dr. Lee did my surgery. I can't see them ignoring her situation. Call their office and get her in to see them; they will figure out what's going on. Best wishes.

RapidFirePickle got a reaction from Fluffy Grandma in NSV
It's such a liberating and unreal feeling, isn't it?
I have been in the "regular" clothing section for a while, but it took a couple of months of my husband steering me there before it sank in that I no longer needed plus sized clothing.
Congratulations on your hard work and this amazing victory!

RapidFirePickle got a reaction from ProudGrammy in How soon do you need to buy new pants??
I was in a smaller size within a month, but I was already down some with the pre-op weight loss, and the surgery kicked my size down even more. I would limit purchasing to one size smaller and use thrift/consignment shops to reduce cost. I feel like I've blown through a lot of clothes on this journey, and I'm only 3.5 months after surgery. I even bought a skirt at a thrift store that I shrunk out of before I even got to wear it, and I only had it a week or two.
Maybe you'll be fortunate enough to have a coworker who will clothing swap like I did. She had some pants that she had grown out of, and I'm borrowing them until I shrink out of them.
Good luck with your surgery and healing!

RapidFirePickle got a reaction from JessLess in Please Help! Bypass vs. Sleeve Which one to Choose?😅
For me it was less about the amount of weight I had to lose, and more about the reversal/remission of my diabetes. RNY gastric bypass is more efficient at diabetes reversal than the sleeve. I am happy to say that 4.5 months later I am pretty dang happy with the choice.

RapidFirePickle got a reaction from Frustr8 in Weight loss surgery advice needed
It was actually my doctor who suggested the surgery in the first place, based on my health conditions. I had no trouble getting a referral, though I didn't really need one.

I am sorry to hear that you have gone through such a difficult time, but I am pleased you were able to get approval to reverse the surgery so you can be well. This is NOT supposed to be a torture device, but a tool for health, and when it goes wrong, it is time to make it right.
Swift healing and good health to you on the other side.

RapidFirePickle got a reaction from ChellNC in Infected incision ?
When my son had spinal surgery, his incision drained a LOT. Doc said it was because the stitches under the skin were supposed to dissolve, but sometimes the body tries to "spit them out", hence the massive drainage.
