Wondering why this subject comes up at all. As an Atheist, you expect others to respect your beliefs or right to NOT to believe. Yet you lack any respect for their right to express theirs.
Grow up! Let go of the pettiness and open your mind.
They are simply attempting to express their well wishes. Accept it and say "Thank you." Like an adult....

I try to get at least 800 daily. Not easy I cant even look at a Protein Shake. My weight seems to be coming off slow and steady. I am so excited to be approaching 200 lbs. Finally started working out again.
You need a pity party every now and than, have it and move on. Just like you did.

50 lbs post surgery is amazing, as is 70 total. No reason to be down on yourself!
For reference I saw my surgeon on Monday he was very pleased with my weight loss (also 50 lbs) and said that was fantastic and above average.

I don’t think saying that I will pray for someone assumes anything about them rather it says something about me. To use the chicken example if you choose to slaughter a chicken in my honor I don’t care. I’m not slaughtering it, you are.

The act of praying for someone doesn’t mean I think that person is religious it means that I am.

I wouldn’t be offended by that....

Okay, so you're like a militant atheist, huh? I am also an atheist, and I do not get offended when people say they are going to pray for me--I say thank you. I think you need a snickers.
Not to make light, because I do cringe at times when folks tell me "god has a plan" and things to those effect, but sometimes you just have to accept people as well-intentioned, even if they are a bit oblivious.

Well maybe if you know people well enough to discuss something as personal as weight loss surgery with them they should be close enough to you to be aware that you are atheist. I do not discuss my medical history with casual acquaintances and have only told a select group of about 10-15 people anything about my WLS. I would never mention it on any social media sites I frequent.
I do have friends that are atheist and I have no problem accepting their beliefs which are different from mine and I agree that it would be insensitive to say I would pray for them.

I am in a stall. I have lost 70 pounds (counting the 20 before surgery) I guess I am not eating enough. I was told this yesterday at the 12 week check up. I swear I am eating...... some days I just can't get anymore down. I spent last night feeling sorry for myself. New day today, new attitude. I am focusing on more substantially nutritious foods. If it is good for me, high in Protein, I will eat it. Even if I generally do not like it. My goal is to increase my calories by 20% , and increase my protein too.
    Wish me luck!

That really sucks. Just remember, the reasons you are doing this for yourself, are the same reasons why their opinions don't matter. At the end of the day, there is only 1 person you need to answer to, and that's yourself. As long as you did what you thought was right for you, that's all the opinion that matters.

    Stay Strong.
    Stay Confident.
    Stay Positive!
    You got this.

You are right, those are valid points. I'd rather bare with this wls diet that is kind of lame sometimes than have to deal with my foot and back pains anymore. So I guess that's a trade off here.

My go-to items at costco are Protein Shakes, Protein Bars, ground turkey, frozen chicken burgers, frozen green Beans, Vitamin Water zero, cheese sticks and fresh fruit/veggies. I also get my Vitamin D, probiotic, gasX and Miralax there. Yep - we shop at Costco far too frequently!

Thanks Imagine - a support group is for support. I remember in grad school a hot debate as to obesity being deviant behavior / condition Certainly there is a correlation between mental disorders and obesity
Most folk I come across just want health We tried many things before WLS
Vent away - support is supportive not full of anger - same - judgement - cruelty - bullying - abuse

I'm also seeing tons of the "you only lost how much weight in X time" comments. It's not a race and any loss is progress.

    Venting*** sorry
So i'm in several other online support groups right. And i've started volunteering at my local surgery center support group too.
But lately in 2 of my other online support groups i've been seeing a ton of negativity and body shaming smaller sleevers/ by passers. It's so rude to me.
I just feel so bad for anyone that has to go through that. Someone recently posted something about people being in the 200's not needing wls, and that they should not post their before and afters.
First off, aren't we all having the same struggle? Both physically and mentally.
Secondly, nobody really knows another person's reasoning behind their decision. If your insurance is paying for it, it is because they are obese and possibly have other co morbidies. So i'm all for any and anyone feeling like they need to make a change to keep the weight off and get healthier.
I just think some people should attempt to be a bit more open minded or just not say anything. This post i'm referring to literally started a cyber war, which is so crazy to me. Nobody would ever judge someone for being much larger and deciding to go down the wls route...just saying.
I think everyone should feel welcomed and supported.

I agree with you, and it is sad. This isn't a contest. And people that weigh 200 (depending on height) can still be morbidly obese so I don't understand the mindset that they don't deserve surgery or accolades for being successful in the journey.
That is why my sister does not know about my surgery - a niece had a lapband about 5 years ago and she remarked that 'Debbie was not fat enough to need wls.' What! None of your beeswax girl. She is also the sister that laments over and over about how hard it is to lose 10 pounds because of menopause and that she is sooo fat, and hates her gut because she has never been fat until now. She may have a pudge belly but she is not in any danger of being fat, wears a size 8.

I completely agree with you, and i'm glad you kept yours a secret to avoid the negativity.

I'm only 5'1 and according to the BMI, anything over 130 is over weight for me so imagine what it takes to be considered morbidly obese, not much.

I think everyone should be supported for trying sooooo hard to take control of their life back.
