Pixie cut and hair loss - 5/6 months out
So this is one of those cases of people posting on here looking for permission/encouragement/an excuse to do something, and your comment 100% did that for me! Luckily this is a good one and not an unhealthy ask, right?? I’m going to schedule a haircut for this weekend I think. I was 20 the last time I had my pixie cut, but I feel like the weight loss has cut at least some of the 12 year difference off so I’m going to go for it! Just want to make sure I book with someone who is experienced enough to work with the thinning areas and not make it look even more sparse!

Resolutions 2019?
Thank you! We all tend ( at least I do) to do for everybody else and put ourselves last because our(my) self esteem has always been so low because of my size. Now this year, It is all about what is best for me and not the rest! Its going to be about what i want to do. Do I want to travel? Where do I want to go ( not the adult children)? What do I want to do on the weekend? This is the mentality I will bring into the new year. I will not be selfish because life "all about me" makes for a lonely life, but I am going to live life and not let life carry me through. I completely agree - it’s not selfish! You have to fill your cup first to be able to give anything to others (“you can’t pour from an empty cup)! Or the other way of putting it - just like on an airplane, you have to put on your oxygen mask first! You’re right that so many of us have spent so long prioritizing others’ interests/needs/preferences, what a powerful and important step to take to focus on YOU doing YOU!!

Pixie cut and hair loss - 5/6 months out
So for a long time I had a goal of if/when I returned to my lowest ever adult weight, I would get a pixie cut again (which I had and loved the last time I was at that weight). A few weeks ago I hit that goal (217) - woo hoo!! However, as I was going to book my appointment to cut off all my hair, I started worrying that with my hair being so much thinner a pixie cut would emphasize the places it’s thinned. When I comb my hair in certain ways, I feel like I can see the bald spots a bit. Otherwise it’s not noticeable to others - just less volume and thinner hair which I am aware of but no one else is. Do we think a pixie might highlight the thinner spots, and I should just leave well enough alone since it looks okay now? Or should I go for it? Thoughts???

I shaved my head...
Wow, it’s growing in SO CUTE! This is how I want to cut my hair and how I’ve wanted it for like a decade but I’ve been nervous that with my hair so much thinner it wouldn’t look good. Are you finding that the losses are visible when it’s growing back in? Or not really?

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's weight loss challenge
My challenge ending weight was 213.6, so I lost 12.5 pounds. Less than I was hoping for over almost two months but at least it was progress! I did start the couch to five k program which I’m really excited about. I never got to a place of consistently hitting my exercise goals because it always felt like there were extenuating circumstances/things coming up to get in the way. Hoping to be able to refocus and get into a routine now that it’s the new year and fewer disruptions of family and travel!

Resolutions 2019?
These are great! I love the last one - it’s so hard to do, great to have it boiled down to a “mantra” you can say to yourself to remember to stick with it! Good for you!!

Resolutions 2019?
Best of luck with your healing! I’m sure it’s really challenging to be patient with that process when you’re so ready for all the other changes that come with this surgery, especially after you had to wait so long to get it! Sending good healing thoughts your way!!

Resolutions 2019?
My resolutions are: - more pure Water every day - get 12 visits at the gym every month - complete a C25K and eventually a C210K if I can - spend 30 min every day for self-care (crafting, reading, face masks, going for a walk, etc) - cook at least two recipes every month that I’ve never tried before - read at least 30 books (audio or regular)

NSV: vacation edition
I think it’s because of where it’s located - position and angle is impossible to reach otherwise!

No pizza for 4-5 months???
Rational brain is able to think things that the feelings side of the brain can’t. I’m just saying that the fear/worry over whether we can do it is very natural and very common.

No pizza for 4-5 months???
I was honestly super worried about what going that long without pizza, etc., would be like as well. I feel like it’s dishonest to act like many (most?) of us don’t question our ability to go without the foods we’ve relied on for so long, especially because of the emotional ties many of us have to eating specific foods that we ought to avoid. I didn’t think I’d be able to go as long as I did without pizza, I bought a bunch of cauliflower crusts so I could have some “pizza” as soon as I got to solid foods. I think part of the point of surgery is to learn how to have our favorites in healthier ways and/or in smaller quantities and/or much less frequently. I am impressed by those who forgo things forever but I know that that is not realistic for me. Maybe I’d be losing faster if my attitude were different but I’m delighted with my 70lbs in five months and have been working really hard on food and fitness. I’ve also had pizza several times and it tasted damn good. My two cents anyway!

NSV: vacation edition
So I’m on an absolutely amazing trip to Ireland this week and it’s been fantastic both because, well, it’s IRELAND, and because it’s been chock full of NSVs. I am five months out from my RNY and as of the day I left home I am just about 70 lbs down (67.4 including two week pre-op). Some of my vacation NSVs: - my reaction to just about every picture that is taken of me is “OMG I LOOK SO GOOD!!”...total opposite of before weight loss - castles with a million stairs and huge hills to/from cool places like Giant’s Causeway don’t even cause me to get out of breath. I kept getting nervous and anticipated having a hard time with things that ended up being a breeze! - Lastly, one that is highly specific and special for me: I kissed the Blarney Stone! It involves 120+ very narrow winding stairs up and then someone holds you while you lie backwards and reach out to kiss it while you hold the bars and the person holding you helps. Even at my new weight I was self-conscious and nervous about whether I’d be able to do it or whether they’d look at me and tell me I was too big for it, but it went great! Here’s a not very flattering pic of it so you get the idea! I never ever would have had the confidence to try it before this weight loss. What a great feeling! What vacation specific NSVs have you had or do you look forward to??

International Travel - 5 months post op
Haven’t done a hop on hop off bus tour in Dublin, we’ve been doing a lot of walking around the city since most things were closed our first two days here for Christmas Eve and Christmas. This morning we’re heading over to Kilmainham Gaol! Quick question: are NSAIDS called something different here? Have a terrible sore throat and was going to stop by pharmacy to get something for it and want to make sure that I don’t accidentally take something I shouldn’t! Thanks!!

International Travel - 5 months post op
Haha, we’re coming from Minnesota so anything above freezing is delightful weather! Also, when we first looked at the forecast it was supposed to be pouring every day and we’ve only had one brief and light drizzle so far, so we’re delighted! Hoping 50s and cloudy holds for today’s trip to Giants Causeway!!

Flying Post-Op
I’m realizing you’re asking about flying right after surgery, that I do not know! Sorry! My surgery was five months ago :)
