It takes time to adjust. Just stick with it, eventually you will hate sleeping without it. When I don’t use mine I feel horrible. The only time it gives me problems now is if I’m sick.

Still in the process, I have about 2-3 months left before surgery. Today my boss asked me how much time off I would need, I told her about 2 weeks. She then said that was too long. Well, not much I can do about that, it is what it is. I have 2 weeks of vacation saved so it's not like I'm taking it off unpaid. She asked when and I told her I would work it out so I'd be here for the end of our fiscal year in June, so early May or I'd wait until July. She said neither were good and to find another time. There is one other person that does the same job as I do, he is retiring in September. So I have to do it before September. She's been super cranky and hard to work with for the past year. This is to take care of my health....I wanted to let her have it but I need my job so I just stayed quiet.

@Creekimp13 Haha on the visual of being gobsmacked and dazed in the middle of the wrapping paper! That's it exactly. I kinda feel bemused! I even asked her twice if she really changed my anatomy up inside! *snort*

I think the post op liquid diet is easier....because you have a sense of accomplishment:) Also...because that light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer and closer:)
Lot of people go through that unreal feeling...sort of....what the hell? It's done? Seriously? LOL.
It's like Christmas....this HUGE lead up...and suddenly you're on the other side sitting in the wrapping paper. Did anyone catch the license plate on that reindeer? it's kinda...stunning.
Glad you're feeling well, Fluffy. Keep on keeping on:) Yay! You did it!

Lillymunster reacted to Dylpowers in Over a week until sleeve surgery some questions
Hello I am new to this forum
i have my gastric sleeve surgery on March 6th and honestly I am freaking out a little
I am 5 11 and at my highest was 385 since deciding to do surgery I have lost over 35 pounds and hope to take more weight off prior to surgery with the pre op liquid. Long term goal is 220
i went to pre op education course yesterday so I am clear on everything to do for the next week and the weeks following
My questions revolve around several items
is two weeks post surgery realistic to go back to work . I work in finance so desk job
i understand the need to strictly follow the post surgery liquid diets etc but when you get to 6 months are you pretty much able to eat most foods ( recognizing that focusing on Protein and fewer carbs will be key for the weight loss )
How common is vomiting post surgery 6 months and I assume it is just over eating is the main cause and how sensitive is your stomach ( ie I have 6 ozs of meat instead of 4 am I throwing up) the thought of vomiting a lot obviously is not pleasant .
I know Alcohol is discouraged but safe to assume that for special occasions one or two drinks will be fine ( once again 6 plus months out post survey )
i am excited to do this a get to a healthier life just probably now just processing how much change there will be to my life
thanks so much for any feedback

Thanks to each of you for warming my heart and making me feel your love and support!!! ((hugs))
Surgery went so smoothly. The hardest thing was the anesthesiologist trying to get a vein with the iv catheter. They stuck me like 13 times! NO kidding! But the nurse anesthetist was giving me laughing gas and anesthesia by then and we were talking and laughing and telling jokes while he was suffering trying to find a vein! Luckily the iv in my finger held until they took it out today!
I am sipping/walking/having Clear Liquids today and tomorrow--then on to full liquids and Protein drinks. I just weighed (at night) lol, and I'm up 5 lbs from anesthesia but that's fine. I will lose it. Also I appear to be full of sh*t! The surgeon said my colon had a ton of stool that I need to get cleaned out! Sorry for TMI! But apparently pooting and pooping are big things to them! I finally pooted tonight! HA!
The real challenge is limiting myself to 4oz per hour! I'm able to drink very easily. I have very little pain and am controlling it now with tramadol and gabapentin. I'm doing so well! Walking, sipping, visiting, napping in my recliner and watching movies!
Thank you to all for your prayers and support! I love each of you. I can't believe I finally had the surgery and it's over! I will tell you, that my desire/cravings for food right now are non-existent. And it really doesn't bother me to be on clear liquids. Also, the surgeon said it went so well. I had some adhesions that she removed and that my liver was pink and beautiful and that it was a very easy surgery! Yeeeehawwww! I'm on the losers' bench with ya now!!!

    ((hugs))

Lillymunster got a reaction from numinousvessel in Surgeon didn't complete my Gastric Bypass surgery!
About 6 years ago a friend of mine had the open surgery in MA. He was in the hospital for 3 days and out of work for 3 weeks. He did have to sleep in a recliner for a week or so because going from laying down to getting up caused him a lot of pain along his incision. He didn't have any problems and did really well. He does have a crazy scar but he's ok with that. His surgeon recommended it, I never knew why.

I know that is a harsh word but they are just awful. I saw the surgeon on my first visit for all of 10 min. months ago and his staff is just terrible. They constantly give me the wrong information, they dont return my phone calls, they are constantly passing the buck. Unfortunately, he is the only doctor my insurance will cover. I am trying to be patient but golly I am running low with them. Right now my insurance company has approved me and left a message with them yesterday. At 8am this morning the gal said she just got in she will call me when she checks her message. Its not after 4 and nothing. I then emailed her this afternoon with teh approval letter and approval code and still nothing. I guess I'm being impatient but this has been a long year with them. The screwed up my paperwork and i had to extend my nutrition for 3 months. Im just worried that I am putting my life in this docs hand and they dont seem very capable. I hear people love love love their docs but i dont know how to fix this

I don't remember exactly, but I know I didn't have any "real" food for the first month. At three weeks, about all I'd suggest is something like applesauce or something pureed. Definitely wait on the salad . . .
The first month or two isn't much fun, really, but it does pass and it gets better. I can eat just about anything now, although not too much, and obviously there are some choices much better than others!

I am being tested right before surgery. It will be a urine test.
I quit 8 years ago using ecigs. I am still using my ecigs just with zero nicotine. I will have to completely give vaping up before surgery as the suction required to vape is not allowed post op.

Don't worry! According to my surgeon and what I've read, it's next to impossible to stretch your stomach. What has probably happened is you're fully healed now and swelling has gone down, so you're able to fit more in. Also remember that a tuna sandwich is pretty soft food, so we can eat more.
I remember at 3 months I had a really big tofu sub and I was surprised I could fit it all in! Just make sure you're taking small, slow bites (one per minute) and you'll be fine.

    Hi there
i had sleeve. No previous GERD before, but had long term issues after , so converted to bypass. So two surgeries instead of one.
I have seen online advice not to have sleeve if you already have GERD, but never info that sleeve can cause serious GERD. I used to wake up in night with acid filling my nose and throat. Really horrid and not good Healthwise
before First surgery I had no gallstones. 4 years later, had to have gall bladder out with the most ridiculous number of stones largely because of the fast weight loss
but no life threatening issues . I think like a lot of things, statistics are based on historic info. In reality, surgery is constantly improving as surgeons gain experience. Check your surgeons record is my best advice

Here is advice my nutritionist gave me
use measuring cups, start with 1/4 cup size and use that as your guide. You will likely not eat that much in the 30 min eating window, eating for longer than that is considered grazing which has been known to cause regain
Don't try to eat more than that yet. Slowly work up to that goal
4 oz is the amount of dense Protein recommended when at the solids stage and that's a ways off for you

    Hi everyone!
So I had my surgery on 1/31 and I’ve been slowly recovering since then.
I haven’t felt much hunger the first 4 days (probably cause I was still dealing with a lot of nausea and pain)
Currently, I’m incredibly hungry! I feel much better physically and less pain overall but this is also very stressful to deal with.
I’ve been taking my liquids and Protein Shakes but I wanted to reach out and ask what helped you?

Fast food can be as addictive as crack and it's so easy to find. Please listen to a older and older food junkie,,please?

I was very lucky to have a nutritionist who was used to serving a diverse populations of people with very different nutritional preferences and cultural diets. (Kosher, Halal, Vegan, Vegetarian, Etc.)
She asked me what my favorite diet was....I said mayo Clinic/Mediterranean....and we looked at some key factors of the diet and made a few adjustments to prepare for bariatric surgery, but mostly I was able to stick to my preferred plan....and even praised for it. (I do hit a higher Protein goal than I was used to, but I do half of it in plant protein) I also reduced my carb side dishes to 1/4 cup instead of 1/2 cup. If it's a Vegan main dish, that's different....but a side of rice or potatoes with a protien is a much smaller portion now....and often omitted.
I'm discouraged when I hear about dietitians who only offer one approach and doctors who believe Keto is the only way to go. It works very well...but it doesn't work for everyone. I think patients are more compliant with plans they are comfortable with, and can maintain for a lifetime.
Glad to be working with a group that offers more than one way up that mountain!
Jersey, I'm a big fan of apples with natural Peanut Butter, too Had some for a snack tonight.
LOL...I understand chicken fatigue! Maybe try to switch things up with fish or turkey?
Congrats on your 14 pound loss!
