So do they test you for nicotine at the pre op visit or right before your actual surgery

I quit 8 years ago using ecigs. I am still using my ecigs just with zero nicotine. I will have to completely give vaping up before surgery as the suction required to vape is not allowed post op.

I had to test at my consultation and will test again at my pre-op appointment. I was told it was required to have been quit for at least 6 weeks. If not they would not do the surgery because of the risks it would pose (ulcers and extremely slow healing).

My surgeon gave me a handout that said have to quit 30 days before surgery or the surgeon will not operate

  • 3 weeks later...

I just read for heavy smokers it will show in urine 2-3 weeks after you quit.

I was a heavy smoker and quit for 9 years. Started again due to a very stressful event and quit 6 weeks before surgery. It's hard but I feel the benefits already x
