  1. I'm currently pregnant also. I'm almost 13 weeks. My obgyn has me checking my blood sugar with a glucose meter 4x a day for two weeks to check for gestational diabetes. My obgyn also sent me to a diabetes education class to learn how to use the glucose meter and also what foods to eat. Maybe mention this to your obgyn as a possible option for you. You may also want to find an obgyn that has more experience with treating bariatric patients. Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy 😊

    Recovery Update

So sorry you have to go thru this. You are in my prayers. Get well soon 😊
  3. I had gastric bypass recently on April 18th. I went to my follow up with my surgeon. Everything went well and I was advanced to pureed phase. I thought I understood all of the directions for this phase but now that I'm home I seem to be drawing a blank. I know that I'm suppose to eat the protein portion of the meal first. Protein portion anywhere from 2 tablespoons-1/4cup according to my surgeons directions. My question is how do I add in pureed fruits and veggies? What size portions? How much should I be eating total each meal for protein, fruits, veggies? I've only been able to eat my protein portion and no room for anything else. I'll call my surgeons office tomorrow I'm just looking for answers on here until then. Thanks in advance.

  13. Hi everyone, I just have a quick question. My insurance's only requirement to have gastric bypass is that the surgery be medically necessary. I do not have any health conditions because of my weight. I am in good health except for my weight. I do have issues with my gallbladder. Because of that my doctor plans to remove it at the same time during my gastric bypass surgery. Will a bmi over 40 be enough to prove it's medically necessary? I'm worried I might get denied by my insurance because I do not have any health conditions related to my weight. Any and all replies welcome! Thanks!! 14. Long story short. I started this process last January. My insurance at that time was United Health Care. I met with my surgeon and got all required testing and psych evaluation done. I had my surgery scheduled for July of last year pending insurance approval and I only had my last supervised diet class to attend. Well around May I was faced with financial crisis that ended in having to file for bankruptcy. At that time I was unable to go through with surgery because of my finances and other issues. Now fast forward to this January I decided to go through with the surgery. I called my insurance company. I now have new insurance because my husband's employer changed insurance companies. After talking with over 5 insurance reps they all confirmed that surgery is covered under my plan and the only requirement is that it be medically necessary. It seemed odd to me that that would be their only requirement. So I called my surgeons office and scheduled to meet with him on the 25th. Yesterday I called my insurance again to recheck my coverage. Again I was told only requirement was it had to be medically necessary. Then the lady calls me back and tells me you have to do six month supervised diet, psych evaluation, and minimum of 5 years of weight history from your doctor. So I'm really stressed because now I don't know if the supervised diet visits and all the other tests will carryover to my new insurance. Not sure if they'll except the supervised diet visits I already completed because they aren't consecutive. I have 5 that are consecutive. I also am unsure about the 5 year history because I haven't gone to a primary care physician yearly for checkups. So I'm wondering if this information can come from any doctor or just a pcp?? I was also told I need to call bariatric resources and have a case manager because they make sure you meet requirements before anything is submitted to insurance. I'm just really stressed now and really kicking myself in the butt for not going through with the surgery the first time around. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks [emoji4]

    All ex smokers

My surgeon gave me a handout that said have to quit 30 days before surgery or the surgeon will not operate
  17. Yeah I'm glad that I already completed all the tests needed and psych evaluation. I just have to attend my last supervised visit which will be on the 25th and meet with my surgeon. So excited but so nervous too!!! [emoji4]
  18. Because my surgeon feels I will get the best results with the gastric bypass.
  19. Okay. My bmi is in the 50s right now. I believe it was in the early 60's when I started the process. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

  24. Hello, I started my journey the beginning of last year. I am planning to have gastric bypass. Last year when I started my previous insurance (UnitedHealthCare) required 6 month supervised diet. I completed 5 out of six before I decided that at that time not to go forward with the surgery. After a few months I've finally made the decision to have gastric bypass and restart my weight loss journey. I now have new insurance which is PHCS. I called my insurance to make sure the surgery would be covered and it is covered and my surgeon and hospital are in network with my insurance. I asked them what the requirements were in order to be approved. I was told the only requirement is that the surgery has to be medically necessary. So I guess my question is after my doctor submits my documents to insurance how long does it usually take to get an answer? Also i really never heard of insurance companies only wanting proof of it being medically necessary. I thought for sure that I would have to redo my 6 month supervised diet. Does anyone else on here have insurance where the only requirement is it to be medically necessary? Does this make it easier or more difficult to be approved? I meet with my surgeon again on Jan. 25th! I'm really excited to get started again!!
