Lillymunster got a reaction from FluffyChix in Starving still... regret seriously increasing
So I have been starving and I’m at a week and a half post op. I agree with Fluffy, drink drink drink. Are you allowed low cal, low fat geek yogurt? Even a third of one really fills me up. I’m also learning to differentiate Head hunger from real hunger which is very hard. broth really helped me with the hunger. It felt like more than just Fluid.

What was your sugar like after surgery? Since getting home I range from 85-114. No insulin or metformin. Does it get lower over time? I’m really hoping I stop getting readings over 100 (unless I’ve just eaten).

I’m in day 7 post op and days 3 and 4 were bad for me. My pain was crazy and nothing was palatable. I’m feeling better now, just hang in there. chicken broth with unflavored Protein Powder has helped. It feels more like real food than Protein Shakes and goes down super easy.

My pain was way better today. I’m 6 days post op today and I’ve just had Tylenol. I’m still having a hard time telling when I’m full. I stop when the burping starts.

How long did everyone’s pain last? I’m 5 days post op and still have a lot of pain. I can get up and walk and do stuff but I hurt. The main area is right below my sternum. I’m getting my fluids and Protein in, I go real slow and take small sips so I don’t think it’s that. My stomach is still real bloated too. I don’t think I should be concerned yet, just curious about other people’s experiences.

I’m 3 days post op and my tastes have changed. I used to put fruit punch Mio in my Water and it tastes bitter now. My go to Greek yogurt was pills triple 9 chocolate and that tastes terrible now. I’m also craving tuna and eggs (not together) which I’ve always hated and real crunchy iceberg lettuce.

Lillymunster got a reaction from FluffyChix in Surgery was Monday, things feel weird
Hi. My gastric bypass was Monday. Monday night was rough but by Tuesday I felt much better. Water has been going down no problem as long as I take my time. Today was my first day on full liquids. My Protein Shake was a little harder but I did it. My plan allows for no fat, low sugar, low calorie greek yogurt on the full liquid stage. I got about half of that down before I felt terrible. Very sharp pains and short of breath, I hoping walking and taking a break from any fluids will help. Think I'll wait another few days before I try greek yogurt again.

I have not had surgery yet or been pregnant but I did ask my surgeon about pregnancy after surgery. It's my main reason for surgery. He said that I should continue to take my 4 Vitamins a day (Bariatric Fusion) when pregnant and then take a prenatal on top of that. The 4 a day are for me and my needs, the prenatal is for the baby. Makes sense to me.

So I met with a reproductive endo because I’m 39 and never had a baby. Wanted to freeze eggs before surgery. My BMI is too high for that but she said they can do it post surgery when I loose enough. I did have all the fertility blood work and scans done and know where I stand with fertility going in to surgery. I’d say meet with one before to find out where you are.

Although I am not in as much pain as you, I don’t feel normal yet. I am one week out today, and still have so little energy. My legs feel wobbly. Tomorrow I start soft foods so I hope that helps with my energy. I had pain the first two-three days and was basically taking my pain meds every six hours for that whole time.

Lillymunster got a reaction from FluffyChix in So frustrated
I went to my information session at the beginning of Nov 2017. They told us everything we would need. I got all my physician approvals and when I met with the surgeon for the first time we discussed how I’m anemic. I told him my Iron was always low, Ive needed iron infusions in the past and two different hematologists can’t figure out why I’m anemic. He said it wasn’t an issue. After surgery we’d monitor it carefully. This is the end of January. They send me for lab work and in early March I have an appt with the psychologist, nutritionist, nurse practitioner and exercise physiologist. They all have to clear me for the next step. At this appt I’m told I need to go on birth control and I can’t move forward until I do that. Why didn’t they tell me that at my info session or surgeon appt? I get into my ob/gyn at the end of April and get the pill. Now they are telling me my iron is too low. Again, why didn’t you tell me this before. I met with the np in March and she had my latest labs. We talked about it. I would have made an appt with my hematologist. So I made one now but he can’t see me until June. Wtf! So irritated. They need to get their s$&@ together.

So there is research out from Harvard that shows how after bypass your small intestine releases GLUT-1 which is what helps with putting Type2 in remission. Google it. Very interesting.

Lillymunster got a reaction from prettyricki in Time Off - vent about my boss
Still in the process, I have about 2-3 months left before surgery. Today my boss asked me how much time off I would need, I told her about 2 weeks. She then said that was too long. Well, not much I can do about that, it is what it is. I have 2 weeks of vacation saved so it's not like I'm taking it off unpaid. She asked when and I told her I would work it out so I'd be here for the end of our fiscal year in June, so early May or I'd wait until July. She said neither were good and to find another time. There is one other person that does the same job as I do, he is retiring in September. So I have to do it before September. She's been super cranky and hard to work with for the past year. This is to take care of my health....I wanted to let her have it but I need my job so I just stayed quiet.

About 6 years ago a friend of mine had the open surgery in MA. He was in the hospital for 3 days and out of work for 3 weeks. He did have to sleep in a recliner for a week or so because going from laying down to getting up caused him a lot of pain along his incision. He didn't have any problems and did really well. He does have a crazy scar but he's ok with that. His surgeon recommended it, I never knew why.

The more horror stories I read here, the more I'm beginning to regret getting RNY a couple of weeks ago. All I seem to read is how people throw up constantly, start dumping and have a myriad of health complications. I'm just hoping that that vast majority of people who live happy and healthy lives after RNY just aren't posting as much.
I've been very fortunate to not have had any complications so far. I'm still on the liquid stage but I really have not had problems downing liquids all day (as long as I remember to bring them with me). I'm praying that when I can start eating food, they go down without a fight. Does vomiting feel the same with gastric bypass as it did prior? I hate throwing up!

Thank you. I have heard that ketosis cause bad breath. I didn’t think I would be losing any weight so soon. I am not going to weigh myself until Monday, 1 week out.

So my program says no potatoes (sweet or regular) for a few months, they are too high in carbs. I wonder if it is too soon for potato.

I don’t see a problem with it. I know some people get the munchies but I never have. And if you are in a state where it’s medical or recreational you can find a strain that is tailored for pain.

I am on 3 Premier Protein ready made shakes per day ( 160 cal, 30g Protein, 1g sugar, 5 carbs ) and I have 1 sugar free Jello and 1 sugar free popsicle each day. I can have some vegetables, such as cucumbers, lettuce, etc as well as low sodium broth. I do not have issues with my liver, it was more of a goal my surgeon set for the 2 weeks prior to surgery to be safer. I am just going to continue with the plan and trust the process. less than a week away, so getting excited and anxious... Thank you for your comments and suggestions - I sincerely appreciate it .

Initially my doctor didn't want to take anything like Imodium because he said your body is telling you something by wanting to get rid of everything. Maybe he thought I had caught a bug?? I called on Friday and he said I could go ahead and take something for the diarrhea, but it didn't help at all. Yesterday I started the probiotic and I am happy to announce...
i took a solid poo today!!! Haven't had diarrhea all day! Sorry for the gross details, but I thought you guys would want to know. I think it's the Probiotics. I actually left the house and did a bit of shopping!
Not sure why my weight hasn't dropped in like 5 days, but I'm just SO happy to hopefully be back on the right track. Thanks for listening about my toilet troubles!

Many experience problems drinking Protein Shakes. I hated them. But in the beginning I drank them, three 16-ounce Protein shakes a day, in order to meet my protein requirements. You do not have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. There are many varieties of protein shakes available today. Experiment until you can find one you can tolerate. I used Muscle Milk Light (Vanilla Creme) powder blended with Water and a half a banana. That worked for me. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, you might try premixed Isopure.

I'm having the same problem. I had my sleeve Feb. 26th. I initially lost 13 pounds (plus 10 on the pre-op diet), and the scale hasn't moved in 2 weeks. I've had a lot of complications (severe diarrhea, bad dehydration, and now I have a bladder infection most likely from the stupid catheter they insisted I have, so the antibiotic is causing diarrhea again). My blood pressure has also been low so my surgeon had me come off my BP meds and one was a diuretic. I was thinking I was retaining Water and that's why the scale hadn't budged, but when I was I needed the ER on Friday, trying to determine why I wasn't peeing anymore, the ER doc said I wasn't retaining water.
i can't get the shakes down without being in severe pain so I know I'm not getting in enough calories or protein- maybe 300 calories a day. So why am I not losing?
I'm sorry you're going through this too, Voltar0. You're not alone. It sucks!

@stacy71 yes. That's so normal. I did that too. I read everything on here. LOL. But to an extent, all the reading, did little but helped me pass the time. Things are so different when you are truly in it. You know? Like this stupid fear of whether or not I'm eating the right amount. LOL. I woulda thought after so much research, it would be internalized and I would "just know". But my new anatomy isn't behaving like others on here.
I feel like I can eat a cast Iron sink and be oblivious. I can drink without issues and feel like I can eat and eat. So many others are still having probs getting their fluids and Protein liquids down. It's very surreal. I would never have predicted this would be the case.
