Being COLD all the time is my biggest side effect, but it feels like a very fair trade to me. (I'm down nearly 44 lbs since my 12/28 surgery.) I actually had some complications with the surgery itself (very painful splenic infarction and a collapsed lung) but I'm fully recovered now.
I had well-controlled reflux before my sleeve but, knock on wood, it hasn't given me any trouble at all. I take Omeprozole morning and night and I've been fine.
I found the Vitamins annoying at first (especially the big chalky tablets) but, with my surgeon's permission, I switched to a Gummy Multivitamin, jelly Iron supplement, and calcium citrate chews, all of which I find MUCH easier to take.

Current Update: Well I was just reading back and I've come a long way from this, I finally got approved for WLS the 3rd time but this time I have an actual surgery date for 05/15/18. I'm so excited after 4 years, I'm finally getting somewhere. This post was at one of my lowest points and I'm glad to know there are people who understand and/or are going through the same thing.

One of my favorite ways of getting Water in when I'm struggling is to use my blender, ice, water, and a flavor enhancer (anything by True Lemon are my favs due to either no sugar or very low sugar content) I make them into kind of a snowcone or slushie. I feel like it's kind of a treat.

The surgery went great. It’s a long one though - a little over 11 hours. The surgeon removed 15 lbs of skin and fat. Imagine that! The pain was tough the first few days in the hospital but they keep you well medicated. I spent 3 nights and 4 days at the hospital which felt right. Now I’m home resting for about two weeks. The only thing I can do movement wise is walk for about 10-15 minutes every other hour.
The amazing thing is that even with the swelling from surgery I can already see and feel the difference. I can look straight down at a flat tummy and he contoured my out thighs which now look athletic. I have not had a flat mid section since I was 12 so that part is very encouraging. Moreover, I can already feel the new tightness in the muscles. In 6-8 weeks when I can resume exercise I will be stronger and that will make me happy.
Once the bruising goes away I will post some more before and after pictures.
If you are considering any skin removal surgery I am more than happy to discuss it with you.

Hey all! Thanks for all of your support. After I had a little meltdown (haha) I got back to researching. I cancelled my appointment that was set for 4/30 and registered for another information session at another hospital in NJ who I know (for sure this time) accepts my specific insurance. And my insurance accepts them. The info session is on Thursday 5/3. The info will probably be redundant but at least I'll get a feel for what this hospital offers.
Let's hope this one works out lol

I couldn't resist taking a photo the other day, my first since I had surgery in January. I was surprised to realise how fortunate it was that I was wearing the same top (note the paint mark on the front) that I was wearing for my pre op photo back in December.
I have a long long way to go but damn it feels so good to me looking at these two photos side by side. Last week was my first week not losing a pound - I know why. It was my birthday and my sister in laws a few days later, so cake moments were had. But it didn't feel great on the scales later when I hadn't lost a thing. I know this is part of the game so all I can do is look at photos like this, note how many more belt loops I am into and just carry on. So far so good this week

Just4nise reacted to Foxbins in How do you know which foods work for you?
It's just my experience but there is no rule. I couldn't eat chicken the first few years but I can now. eggs are a "sometimes" food--sometimes they stay down, sometimes they come up. You will get to know the feelings associated with foods that are not agreeing with you on a particular day. I find that if something isn't agreeing with me, if I put it aside and try it a few hours later sometimes it will be okay.
"Dumping" doesn't happen to me anymore and I think it's because I have included more fats/sugars into my diet. In the beginning it was almost all Protein and I think my gut bacteria adjusted to that. Adding something high in sugar and fat just caused everything to be ejected. That said, I try not to eat a lot of Desserts. My maintenance calorie intake is about 1400 cals and using up a third of them for a dessert just doesn't seem wise.

Don't have a good answer as to how to navigate the anxiety about this (mine is on the 22nd and I'm scared s***less) but we are who we are (intricate human beings). I would say I'm just going to focus on progress and be transparent about my depression and anxiety (very well managed by meds and previous therapy/cbt skills)

Have my sleeve surgery date set.....5/16/18. Meet with the surgeon tomorrow, and actually started the liquid pre op today, just because I wanted to.
53 yr old dude, work in construction, but more in management than blue collar, and the weight finally has caught up. I'm 6' 1", and weigh 378. I'll get some pics up after a few months post op, and y'all can journey along.

It's a trap. He doesn't want you to feel confident about yourself so you cling to him. Wouldn't be surprised if he had tried to sabotage your progress. You will find someone else. The first person you need to find is you!! Confidence is a aphrodisiac, you will have to beat them off with a stick!!!

To fight the weight battle and be successful u have to get ride of everything toxic in your life. The toxicity will cause old habits to come back. Once u fight the battle and feel u are completely in control introductuce it back in ur life. If you ever watch my 600 pound life there families are so toxic and most fall apart after surgery because the person that gets he surgery is ready to heal. The ones hat don’t fall apart go back to the way they were. food is a strong addiction and the problem is u can not quite it cause u need it to survive. So battle your life do what is best for u. It’s time to say what is best for me and not worry about no one else. Because in the long run our weight might eventually kill us. Lots of therapy here before I got to this point and this is when I New I was ready for surgery. I am controlling my life and I do t care what people say I will be here for my grand babies

I had my surgery 12/14/17 and my non scale victory is: I'm down a shirt size, I can now shave my legs, I can but my arms around my back and touch my fingers, my face in thinner and I am starting to have a lap. A little disappointed that I haven't lost size in my pants. 🤔
