I agree, it's a very defeating feeling when the numbers on the scale are not declining especially when we work so hard to lose weight. You may be having a "stall," which is common when losing weight. lol - agreed, we wouldn't need wls if we could do it all ourselves. If we could, we would have lost the weight a long time ago.
About anxiety: try to accept that the numbers may not move for awhile and that you'll still make it to your goal in the end. Get physical when those anxious feelings are whirling around - a walk or doing some reps with hand weights may help. Connect with your inner child and try adult coloring or put a jigsaw puzzle together.
Reading: I like to read digital magazines. I can read short bits at a time. Many local libraries offer free digital well-known with a library card and download of an app. Texture is a digital magazine service I use and charges a monthly fee.
I started at 299 lbs. At 3 months, I was 286 lbs. (followed diet closely) so that was 13 lbs. lost., and, at one month post-op, I'm 259 lbs.. It will come off. By the way, I stayed at 286 for month and a half despite my dedicated efforts. Then, the pre-surgical diet helped me drop another 9 lbs
You are doing what you need to and your successes will come. You're going to be great.

You didn't deserve to be treated like that even though you've gained weight. Maybe he was irritated by the weight gain - he's a professional and he surely has worked with other patients who found themselves in the same place. You'll pull through and be ready for surgery. Really. You can do this, I promise.

How frustrating! I didn't gain but I didn't lose much. Since you had excess Fluid, I'm guessing that all or most of the gained weight is "water" weight (fluid) and some is all of the air pumped into the abdomen to increase visibility of stomach during surgery. I'd be discouraged too. Trust me....this gain is likely to come off rapidly and will soon be behind you. Walking does help move the fluid and air (as you probably know). I'm sorry you feel so awful. There are better days ahead.

This stuff is serious. The changes we're making are serious. I've read about so many people loosing it because they can't handle the seriousness of it all. So many of the threads in here are replete with seriousness...
    Where's the humor?
The therapeutic, easing, making-this-heavy-****-easier-to-handle, humor? Where's it at?! Certainly not a central theme in these threads, as far as I've seen in my short time perusing them.
I'd appreciate more. Maybe not everyone would. I would.
Going through a bout of head hunger? Try cocaine! (Hahhhahha)
Seriously thinking about eating cheeseburger two days post surgery? Oh, my god, the opportunities!
And when I say "humor," in my universe, that means busting chops. But this place feels overly sensitive to that genre.
F%#$ it. My name is Raffi, and I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who try to destroy the humor in that which is sacrosanct, especially regarding this serious, serious thing we've all done, which demands that we be able to laugh at it. Amen.
Be forewarned...Revolution is my name. if you don't get it, go ask someone. I am coming to make you giggle and squirm.

Yes, this happened to me too. My surgery was 12/28/17. The week after surgery I lost 8 lbs. then 0, +1, then (shockingly but to my surprise) 9, and 1. So, 16 pounds for the month following surgery and I've been barely eating. My doctor has been happy with my numbers. She told me that 2 lbs/week is expected at this point. 2 lbs?! I had expected greater weight loss post-surgery too. Guess we need to trust that our bodies are figuring it all out. Wishing you continued success.

So, the conversation went like this. Person who I’m sure I want in my life moving forward, “ ummm well, if that’s what you want to do. You know, I lost 50lbs the natural way but eating small portions and walking.”
Me: “ I’m glad you’re happy with your results. There’s no hard way or easy way, there’s only the permanent way and however means you choose to get there is the right way.”
The person I no longer like, “ well, sorry you don’t like what you see in the mirror that you want to mutualize your body to be “skinny” that’s really low self esteem”
WTF. by now I wanted to b***h slap someone but I took the high road and responded. “ you don’t have to understand or even agree with my decision but I ask that you respect it and me. “
    End of conversation.
My rant goes: why the stigma of wls vs the natural way. I get so annoyed when I hear that statement. The perception that going the surgical route is not by any means the easy way to go.
    End rant.

It's kind of like when you're in your late teens/early twenties and not only you can eat any junk food you want and not get fat, you could probably eat the styrofoam container it comes in and be fine. Then, as time goes on, those bad habits catch up to you. Then you end up fat enough that you have to have major surgery...
You can probably get away with not tracking what you eat, drinking as much as you used to drink, eating with little to no plan, etc. for a while. You'll probably lose some real weight, too. Then you won't. You probably won't lose all you want to lose. And you'll be much more likely to gain most of it or all of it back.
This isn't a fear or a superstition I have. It's a thing I have seen in these forums repeatedly. It's what it looks like when someone doesn't make the commitment to changing they need to make and they blow it. It happens gradually, and it's not a straight drop down, so people usually don't even realize they're doing it.
All of this said, I don't think you're doing *that* badly in terms of what you are eating. The scary part isn't the specifics of what you're eating/drinking, it's that you don't seem to have a plan or track things. You seem content to just go with what feels right and trust it work out.
I would only remind you that trusting yourself to eat what seemed okay made you an obese person who needed bariatric surgery.
It wouldn't even be that hard to get back on track. It's just taking a step back, talking things over with your nutritionist, starting to log what you do on MyFitnessPal, trying to have a plan and accountability.
I wish you the best, man.

Hi. Although I still have trouble getting 64 oz of Fluid in everyday, I have seen a few posts from other members who can drink easily right away. It's something to mention to your doctor - you probably already planned to. It's important to sip rather than gulp drinks. Your stomach is healing and needs time. Too much too fast may cause a leak. Not sure if your stomach was made small enough. Good question for your doctor. It's certainly a possibility that it was and you can still drink easily. Wishing you a fast recovery.

Hi. It's common to be scared, anxious, or both. It's a big decision. Cheryl, what are most afraid of? Potential risks, pain, recovery, dietary changes, or all of them? Is your surgeon off-putting?
I had sleeve surgery on 12/28/2017. This is not the case for everyone BUT it was easier than I thought it would be. I didn't have nausea or vomiting in the hospital. I walked fairly easily with a folded blanket held against my stomach. I went home 22 hours after being admitted. I had a few fleeting moments of nausea the first 2 weeks and nausea all week on the 3rd week (lost 9 lbs. that week) but no vomiting. My pain at home was controlled with Tylenol and a large ice pack. And, other than getting enough fluids and Protein, the food progression has been easy to follow. My surgeon told me that it's 50/50 - patients who have an easier time and patients who have difficulties.
We don't know on what side of those odds you'll land. You know yourself and only you can know if you want to move past your fear and take a chance to be healthier with consideration to all that decision entails at this time in your life.
I wish I had done it sooner.

kakatlady612 - I'll bet you're right. Your grandmother would be in the balcony applauding you and encouraging you. We are fortunate in our lives to know love.
My Mom passed away in 2011. She had lost over 100 pounds through the principles of OA and I've wondered what her reaction would be about my surgery. I keep remembering holding her hand in the middle of the night when she could no longer communicate verbally toward the end and saying, "I'm going to go to the living room. If you'd like me to stay, squeeze my hand if you can and I'll stay." She lightly squeezed my hand. I know if she were here and I needed her, she'd say, "I'll stay."

Congratulations Brian Hat and Linda8. Isn't it exciting? Brian, I agree that it's surprising you were given puréed chicken a day after surgery. The reason for waiting for meats is to give the stomach some time to heal because surgery is an attack on the stomach (cutting, reshaping, stapling). Fluids are processed more easily, give the stomach time, and can determine more easily if there's a leak following surgery. It's not necessarily a matter of whether or not your stomach can handle and properly digest meat. That being said - if your doctor is ok w/it, then you have the green light (maybe he ordered the puréed chicken). On my 2-week follow-up my surgeon told me I could have small cut pieces of chicken breast - not puréed.

You're welcome. I agree that it's difficult to "retrain" brains. I started to go into autopilot one day. I thought, "oh, a sugar-free pudding sounds good," then I started to go in the kitchen. I stopped myself but head hunger and autopilot bring real temptation. Not sure how long it takes after was for stomach to stretch. That would be a good post.

That's tough. If you like jigsaw puzzles or if you haven't done one in awhile, you may want to consider it. My mind is occupied when I'm putting a puzzle together and its tired when I'm done working on it for the night.

You were hit hard post-surgery at home. You were still healing (even with it going well) plus a cold, your period, a desire for cigs, taste buds are off kilter, and you've had lettuce cravings. Not easy at all. My taste buds were off too - sugar-free Popsicles and jell-o tasted too sweet. The salmon my daughter was making (which never made me feel sick before) smelled horrible to the point of nausea. About Water and Protein, I'm still not close to my goals. It takes awhile to get there. I hope you are feeling better very soon. Your body probably needs a lot of rest right now. Try not to overthink it because anxiety about work may set in. Keep focusing on what you need in the moment and eventually you'll get to where you want to be.

One way hubby and I compromise on junk food...he is only allowed to bring things into the house that I genuinely don't like. LOL. All other junk had to be consumed at work. (Rumor has it, he has ice cream for lunch a lot)
I'm not a fan of certain types of Cookies and treats he likes...so those are the ones I'll pick up for him....ones I kinda...hate.
Apples are wonderful things. With Peanut Butter, they're even better.
If you have a fridge at work, keep cheese sticks, baby bellas, yogurt, single serving cottage cheese. Also keep low sugar oatmeal packets, sugar free pudding, and anything else you can find that's either low glycemic or high Protein.
fruit and veggies are good food. Rediscover hard boiled eggs.
Switch your bread to low gycemic options...pumpernickel, whole grain, sourdough...and cut your bread in half if you can.
    Try high protein wraps.
Experiment with chia seed pudding, avacado toast, and homemade protein packs with nuts and cheese and dried fruit.
Try several different protien shakes and bars....try for low sugar and high protein.
See if you can get a metabolic test to get a true idea of your body fat and set a reasonable calorie goal. if you shoot too low, you'll cheat. Don't cheat...start working on a forever diet you can live with:)
