I’m in Boston, MA. I didn’t have a pre-op diet. My surgeon says that the diets are used to shrink the liver, but in our program we were required to lose a certain amount of weight in the 4-6 months prior to surgery (which also shrinks the liver). They said they prefer to not have a pre-op diet because it’s too much pressure on patients to have to lose a specific amount of weight in the two weeks before surgery, and surgery is stressful enough. I definitely appreciate it.

Me too! I don’t have a job that requires heavy lifting or a lot of movement really! So I’m hoping that even if I’m tired, it won’t be too bad.

It helped me to do the "bicycle motion" like I used to do on my gassy babies- lay in bed (on my side or on my back- 3 DPO you're probably better off on your side) and draw your knee up as close to your chest as possible nice and slowly, then stretch your leg straight out again. Do it a few times then roll over and switch sides.

I start fueling and hydrating an hour before I work out. It gives me enough time to consume. I dont like to workout on a full stomach.

Congrats! My pre-workout calls for 4-6 oz of Water and I drink my 24oz bcaa while I workout. I've taken No Xplode, C4 Ultimate and C4 Original and all call for a small amount of water to mix.

Hi, just wanted to chime in. I’m also in my 20s, just turned 25 last month...I agree with someone else who posted here, you should look into the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, initially I was dead set on having bypass, and my surgeon told me that by all means I could have it, but he also urged me to look into the sleeve because I’m young, and bypass does have some possible complications that the sleeve doesn’t, and *in his words* I have a lot of living left to do, so, if by chance I had those complications I would have a long time to have to deal with them...and after I did my research I felt just like he did. So I decided to go with the sleeve...both the sleeve and bypass are great tools for weight loss. Take your time and consider all of your options before you decide which surgery, or even whether or not to have surgery at all. As far as BMI goes the lowest I’ve heard get approved through insurance was 35(with health issues associated with being overweight)..definitely look into that aspect of this as well. We’re all here to be of help and support to you. Good luck!!

I haven't told a lot of people - most of my co-workers and several close friends don't know. Generally speaking, post surgery everyone has noticed my weight loss but very few people dig in about the "how". They simply congratulate me on the loss and move on. Right at first I was very self conscious about the tiny portions but not many people even noticed that or at least they didn't say anything. I've had a few people push me on how did I lose the weight and if I don't feel comfortable sharing the surgery part I just say "diet and exercise". In the past year I've only had two people really push me on it and I felt uncomfortable because to me their questions were coming from a place of gossip vs. interest/concern for me (or interest in weight loss in general) and in both cases I just firmly changed the topic.

I’m 6.5 months out and only my husband knows about my vsg. The most challenging part for me was all the questions asked by co-workers about portion sizes at lunch. I just told them that I was watching what I was eating and left it at that. Best of luck on your journey!

I am scheduled for the 1st March 2018. To be honest so far I have not thought to much about the surgery, I have been much more focused on what happens before and after. I am sure it will all hit me, but to me it is about setting goals and working towards them, The surgery is just another (big step) in a very long journey.

Yeah I agree with a couple women. Scrolling through this thread I was taken back a bit by your tone and "positivity" you are spreading so I had to comment. You asking "have you been to the gym today?" Or telling people to be productive...that tone isn't a positive one in the way you ask. It's abrasive and is meant in a hurtful way. Let's be honest here.
Also, it seems that you agressively respond to anyone who has a differing opinion than yours or calls you out on your tone or responses.
You putting people down is not cool. The people that commented who found you to also be aggressive also had several people who liked their posts which means they agree too.
I'm just a little confused and taken back by the arrogance and aggression in your comments to people.
As I'm wrapping this comment up, I'm thinking about how you are going to spread positivity in your comment back.
I'll answer your positive questions anyways...
-No, I did not go to the gym today.
-I did do something productive today. I productively ate a taco that was effing delicious and I'm gonna walk my ass around a little later.

    stay golden.

Can I ask why exercise is such a key measure of accomplishment for you? Did you read a book today? Did you learn something new? Did you make someone smile? Did you do a good deed? Did you help someone? Many ways to be productive and brighten the world around us.
