  1. Hey everyone...my surgery was 4.18 and I am also struggling with integrating solid foods...I find myself throwing up a lot after I think a lot of the time it may be not taking enough time to eat? I feel like I am but it’s tough. What is everyone eating at this point?

    Recovery Update

Thanks for checking....I am home was in the hospital for five days still off work...I go for a check tomorrow and I’m hoping they will let the wound close...we currently have to pack a few times a day. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers! While it’s been a rough recovery I am down 38 lbs in 3 weeks soooo that makes it a little better!

    Recovery Update

I see him tomorrow hopefully to go home...my dad is a dentist and was extremely upset with entire situation...I tend to be too nice to be people too easily sooooo he will be here tomorrow not to be mean but to address the fact that whatever system they have in place is unacceptable and if it happened to me it surely has happened to someone else. Thank you for all the support....I’ll keep you posted on a release date and how I do!

    Recovery Update

Hi everyone! Thankfully the surgeon who opened the abscess wasn’t my bari surgeon he was the on call for the weekend. I am going to be staying five days total in the hospital on iv antibiotics then seeing my surgeon 2-3 times a week for wound checks and continuing oral antibiotics at home. My numbers are improving so while this is incredibly frustrating and painful I am staying positive. My rny looks great the abscess thankfully was just at one of the opening sites and it seems like I will not need a second surgery as healing is going well! Thank you

    Recovery Update

Thanks everyone! I’m doing okay....the surgeon showed up in my room at 6 am and said as soon as he looked at the ct, the infection was far too large to wait for surgery and he took a blade to it without anesthetic! It was super painful but drained 1000mL and have it packed right now and will continue to change the wound and monitor closely. WBC was 18.9 when checked in currently 17.9 so working on kicking this nasty infection. The abscess went so deep he couldn’t feel the end with the suction or with his fingers in the wound. It was pretty painful I’m glad to know this is the cause of my post op pain and not my rny. Currently changing the packed wound to see if he got it all or if they need to move forward with a different surgery.

    Recovery Update

And not to make anyone lose their breakfast or anything but it has now ruptured twice tonight! It was like a volcano of rancid smelling puss and wouldn’t stop....the nurses are great it was all over my gown socks bedding floor the wall! The one said in the twenty years she’s been here she’s never seen one rupture like this! Still a huge amount of fluid so still having surgery tomorrow. All I can think is thank god it didn’t happen at home bc my husband would have puked or passed out lol.

    Recovery Update

I know the frustrating part is the office and his nurse wouldn’t let me come in for a post op I kept telling them I don’t think it’s normal...

    Recovery Update

Thanks everyone [emoji173]️ I was readmitted and I am getting several different antibiotics...I have surgery tomorrow to try and drain the abscess it’s the size of two baseballs but after I should feel much better....just want to remind everyone to trust your gut....I was spiking low grade fevers since I went home (a week) but they kept going back down to like 99...however I am consistently taking Percocet they prescribed me which ya Tylenol in it....soooo the fevers were probably higher and I didn’t catch them. I’ll let everyone know how I feel after surgery

    Recovery Update

So I had my bypass on 4.18 and was planning on returning a week later. Since going home recovery was much more difficult than anticipated and I have a large hard area that is all red where they inserted the staple guns etc. I wish I trusted my gut earlier this week. I’ve been struggling sit to stand, lay to sit, in excruciating pain where I cry every time I get up. Turns out, it wasn’t the gas. And it’s not just scar tissue like the doctors office kept telling me (they also refused to see me for a post op I’ve tried multiple times this week and they kept telling me my symptoms were normal). Tonight the nurse finally called me back and said I should go to my pcp for a post op bc they close at 3 so my husband brought me to the ER and low and behold I have an abdominal abscess! They did blood work, ct and are readmitting me on iv antibiotics. If they have to drain it it will be very painful... keep me in your prayers

Tome off work - how much??

Hi there! So I had my rny on wed 4/18...I planned on returning to work the next wed...I am a very hard worker and it’s difficult for me to take time off...my recovery was much slower than anticipated....I am still off work and after a few post ops they asked me to stay home four weeks! I cried...but I am hoping to return at 2 weeks. Today I finally feel like I turned a corner but recovery has been very difficult:...I have no problem eating or getting all my fluids in but I had extreme pain sit to stand, laying down to sitting up, going to the bathroom etc. I would take at least a week and see how you do.

    MYO Protein Shake

I second the premier protein! I liked them before surgery and I just had surgery April 18 and added them in yesterday and did great. Keep them really cold. My favs are chocolate, cookie n cream and Carmel. Since surgery I’ve only tried chocolate.
