  10. My vote is to save your money! There are so many other ways to use it to enjoy life beyond taking care of the extra skin. Take a once in a lifetime vacation instead!
  11. No surgery has a zero percent complication rate. It is simply not accurate to say "not dangerous at all". When I was making my decision I did a lot of research and according to medical journals gastric bypass has a 21% complication rate and sleeve gastrectomy has 13%. That includes both major and minor complications. @100away - yes there are risks. But there are benefits too. You need to sit down with a surgeon and get all your questions answered from a medical professional's expertise, not just ours. You need to weigh the risks and benefits of surgery versus the risks of living long term with GERD, ulcers, and obesity. Because as much as you may be scared of bypass being dangerous - so are those things. GERD can increase your chances of esophageal cancer. Obesity leads to diabetes and heart disease. It's a big decision to be made and you are doing the right thing by asking questions and getting advice before jumping right in without considering the risks.
  12. Yesterday I drove 2.5 hours to meet up with my very dear friend that had gastric bypass only 3 months before I had my sleeve. We enjoyed our day together shopping for new clothes, talking about life and the joys and struggles of WLS. She has also lost 100lbs.
  13. I didn't make it "Facebook public" but I haven't kept it a secret either. I've been very lucky I guess in that I haven't gotten any judgmental comments, only questions and congratulations.
  14. I was approved right away but had to wait another 2 months for my surgery.
  15. I think going to a counselor of some kind could be greatly beneficial to you. Both to address your grief and any possible eating disorders you might have. I'm so sorry for the loss of your son.
  16. Gah! I’m so excited about this I just had to share! I was browsing Pinterest last night and found a recipe for making cereal from a Quest bar! I adjusted the recipe to make in my air fryer. I took the temp down to 320° and checked it every 3 minutes instead of 4. Also skipped the parchment paper since the ‘cereal’ would be too light to properly weigh down the paper.
  17. I wish I hadn't had the heavy duty opioids. I felt awful in hospital and didn't think I'd be able to go home. I felt like it was a major workout just to get up to the bathroom and back in bed. The nurse explained that it was likely the morphine and she would switch to the Lortab when it was time for more pain meds. After the morphine wore off and I was good on the Lortab I was in the shower and moving around the room getting my bag packed.
  18. Maybe doing a pouch reset? I've only seen mention of it and don't know the exact steps for it. Then when you finish that start some kind of structured diet plan. Planning to me is the key to eating what I'm supposed to eat and not whatever I find in the pantry at the last minute. Good luck!
  19. Did they mention insurance coverage for it if it is off label use of the medical device?
  20. My understanding is that your sleeve will stretch to accommodate up to half a cup of food during your first year and that it is important to measure your food to keep from pushing the limits and stretching it to be bigger than that. It sounds like at 3oz you're doing fine. Make sure you're eating slowly.
  21. Beano wont help with that type of gas. Its an enzyme to help you digest food properly. A heating pad around your upper back and shoulders will help relieve some of the pain but the body just has to absorb the gas trapped in your abdomen. Walking seems to be the only thing that speeds up that process. Makes sense because as you walk you are increasing your oxygen consumption and expelling more CO2 - which is the gas they use in surgery and what you're trying to get rid of.
  22. A lot of people will do a pouch reset. My advice is to write out your menu for the week. Maybe go to Pinterest to get ideas if you need them. But planning out my meals is my best strategy to stick to healthy eating. Otherwise it gets to dinner time and I'm at a loss for what to eat or make and just end up eating junk.
  23. What about actual lemon and lime juice from the produce section? You know - the plastic bottles that look like the fruit.
  24. The number one thing I see people complaining of is the issue of your family still needing to eat when you can't. Make sure they know you are likely to get hangry, and - if at all possible - it would be helpful they could refrain from eating trigger foods in front of you. Its really hard to smell pizza in the house and know that you can't eat it. But you also have to know that this is a choice you are making and not them, you can't tell them not to eat certain things just because you can't.
