Ever since I was a kakat kitten I've wanted a tail, preferably a fluffy Persian one. Maybe I'll tell my questioners I'm going to have my rump, reduced so they can implant it better? I expect people to tell me I'm too old for surgery, it might kill me-nope,it's gonna help me live and live, longer. This world is too, funny to abandon now, want to see what happens, next. Power to this pussycat!

I threw up a scrambled egg this morning. I can’t decide if I’m throwing up bc I’m eating too much or eating too fast. I know it’s not bc I’m not chewing enough.

MissSimpson reacted to Creekimp13 in What can I drink after weight loss surgery?
    Stuff you can drink:
Very low calorie (less than 20 calories a cup) fruit juices. Look for the word "diet" and read the lable.
Water flavor enhancers like Mio. I was a soda drinker...and I love Mio.
Decaf coffee and tea. (one cup of regular is thought to be ok by most plans)
    Herbal tea.
    sugar free hot cider
I make my own hot cocoa by heating almond milk, cocoa powder, splenda and vanilla...use real milk if you'd rather.
    Hot broth.
    Ice water with lemon.
    lemonade with splenda
    Chrystal light
    sugar free Kool Aid

Try the Mio...there are a million flavors. They have an orange tangerine that might work.
Also, give herbal teas a chance. Ginger lemon is awesome.

There are some people who say they can drink beer, but most doctors say not to drink beer, champagne, or anything else carbonated. The reasoning is pretty simple: you have a surgically altered stomach held together by staples that is trying to heal... filling it with something that expands is... not smart.
As for the other stuff... they recommend less strongly against that, for different reasons. It's very easy to substitute one overindulgence for another. Plus, those calories still count, and that chips away from what you can eat. And finally, yes, as noted, you will feel the effects harder and faster.
I'm able to occasionally have a glass of wine at the end of the day, when I don't need to drive and I've planned the calories and carbs into my day. But I find there's a very slippery slope where if I go beyond that, I tend to try and keep talking myself into more... more booze, more food. It's not good. So I try and keep it to one. And not every day.

To be honest I'm surprised your doctor's office wouldn't know this in advance. I can understand that they may not with some more obscure insurance plans, but I would think they would be well aware of requirements from BCBS. When I had my first consultation my nurse knew all the ins & outs of what would be required. From the start I was told it would be a minimum of 6 months. Definitely talk with your doc to see what you can do. Hopefully there's an easy way to get it sorted.

MissSimpson reacted to DianeJarrett in Bad breakup and weight loss
Hi everyone! Here's a new twist on an old subject matter - a bad breakup. I was happy, healthy, losing weight and working out. I had lost a solid 67 lbs since my June 14 surgery, had a great boyfriend and was really doing well.
Then, on December 26, my BF and I broke up. It was sudden and I was absolutely blindsided. I moved out of his apartment and moved in with my bestie and her husband in CT, away from my job (which I lost), my neighborhood, everything that I know.
The old Diane would be drowning her sorrows in Ben and Jerry's, crying and eating. The new Diane? She can't do that. She can't even eat ice cream because post surgery, she is lactose intolerant. She can't eat chips and dip, or go to McDonalds and get fries and a shake, she can't eat a lot of sweets, she can't drown her sorrows in food, she can't eat her emotions. And, she can't drink alcohol, because she's a freaking lightweight again, like a 14 year old girl at her first kegger.
    Damn it.
But here's the good thing - the new Diane went to the gym and decided to get serious about working out. She is pushing herself harder than ever. She goes for an hour a day and REALLY works out, climbs the Stair Mill, takes a class, does 200 squats in the evening, does a lot of cardio. Why? Because she's in pain and needs to channel that pain somehow and also because SHE CANNOT EAT HER FEELINGS.
Why am I telling you this? Because I want you all to know how your relationship with food will change once you have this surgery. You learn to channel your emotions differently, you learn that food is not always the answer, you learn that alcohol won't solve your problems. Food and drink change post surgery. You have to learn to deal with your emotions instead of running to your comfort food or drink. And it sucks. It sucks big time.
Instead of gaining the post breakup 10 lbs that I normally do, I've lost 10 pounds. Maybe too much for me to lose in a couple of weeks. I had no appetite and I struggled to eat. But better to lose than to gain, to overeat, to push my stomach to full over and over again. I couldn't do it.
So I'm now 20 lbs to goal instead of 30, and I've lost 218 lbs too (that's how much my BF weighed). He was a good guy and I will miss him, but things happen for a reason. And this was a good lesson for me to learn.. how to deal with strong emotions without the comfort of food.
I think we all know that food isn't always our friend. We need it, but we don't need to be dependent upon it to get through some tough times. I am still crushed and hurt, and I miss him, but I really don't miss the food hangover that goes along with a bad breakup. Silver linings....

I’m at puréed stage and Water goes down fine for me. The food - just depends on what it is. Yogurt goes down way easier than Beans or something heavy. You’ll know if you eat too much or too fast. It’ll come right back up! That’s what I’m working with now.

I think your girlfriend could be more supportive.
I also have been there and done that...with little kids and hectic schedules. It's tough.
So, I understand both perspectives a little. That said....
I think you're being flexible...being ok with them eating junk as long as it's not around you. I don't think she's being reasonable expecting you to be around that kinda food....particularly on your pre-op diet....which is very difficult.
The way I see it...she can have it one of two ways....you all eat healthier together, or you have a pass to remove yourself when junk food is being consumed. To not allow you to remove yourself from your addiction...is unreasonable in my opinion.
And about the kid's diet......if they share your genetics...it's probably best that they don't get into the habit of eating crap. And even if they don't share your genetics....healthy eating habits are learned.

I think part of pre-op dieting is getting it in your head that food is NOT something that you need to turn to all the time. It hit me during my liquid only pre-op. I see people on here who cry at the thought of not eating like they previously had, but that’s kind of the point. I know I can eventually eat the things I love (I want tacos so fn bad right now) but I have to change my relationship with food first. Good luck! 😘

I’m single, so I don’t know your exact place, but of course you’re not going to expect kids to change their diets. I was on liquids over Christmas and I skipped my family celebration bc it mainly revolves around dinner. It’s super hard, and they don’t understand what you’re feeling. You may have to just go elsewhere while they’re eating, or have your gf pick up fast food on her own. Sorry this is going on. 😣
