Probably shouldn't smoke anything as it's likely to slow healing. It would probably be okay to vape it though. I stopped taking the narcotics after a couple of days and used Aleve as needed. Some don't recommend Aleve after surgery though.

It's crazy how fast these months went by! I'll be 4 months post op on the 11th! I'm amazed at how much better I feel in both general and also in working out. I'm a nursing student and I'm amazed that after my clinical day (11hrs on our feet) I still want to go to the gym to work out!
It's kind of weird that when I go around in my normal day, I still feel like I look like I'm 355lbs. I don't feel like I look smaller, when I buy clothes and see the smaller size and it actually fits, but I still feel just as fat, just in different sizes... But I can definitely see a difference in side by side pictures. I remember reading from post vsg patients having the same issue and now experiencing it myself is just weird. I try to do a side by side picture at least once a month so my brain can start to realize, I'm not as big as I was. I do love the energy though, and I know my brain will eventually catch up! How is everyone else doing? Post pictures, I love to see all the progress!
    Hw: 355lbs (1/5/17) size 24/26, 3-4x
    Surgery weight: 321lbs(12/11/17)
    Cw: 263.5lbs (3/20/18) size 18, 2x

@ love4040 please allow me to channel your body a moment:
"Hey love4040, it's me -your body. What do you think you're trying to pull? I thought we had a good thing going, I was in homeostasis, that's a fancy, word for balance, I was kinda happy there. Sure you were rather pudgy and all but I was getting q.s., that was medicalese for quantity sufficent Fluid, plenty of fluids and beaucoup calories and things were fine from my perspective. Then you haul me off to some hospital, take a nap and allow doctors to perform assault and battery on my sweet self. I'd call you a back-stabber except that is not where they stabbed me! Now in addition to allowing them to hurt me you are giving me a diet that would barely keep an earthworm alive! I suppose you want me to use your fat stores for enough energy? You do? Now I thought we were friends, we have hung around together for years and now you won't give me the calories I want, fine buddy you are! Okay okay I'll try burning your fat but it's not going to be a happy time for you. I plan to give you a Headache, mess up your bowel habits, maybe I'll give you loose stools maybe hard as bricks, haven't fully decided yet. I'll make you feel weak, I'll make you cranky, I may even send my good buddy appetite or his sister-in-law nausea to visit you. I'm not happy with this new you and I just want you to know this! Oh well maybe after a while I'll resign myself to all this, but right now? Meh I don't love you so much!" ,,,,,,......Your Body

Never really cared for Protein Drinks. I'm 2.5 months out and I'm able to get my Protein from my diet and rarely drink protein drinks now. Fairlife milk is high protein, lower carb, and tastes just like regular milk (maybe a bit better). I would mix Protein Powder with Sugar Free Chocolate pudding and a splash of fairlife milk to up my protein. Another way with was using vanilla sugar free pudding, protein powder, 1/3 banana mashed, and a splash of fairlife milk, let that sit in the fridge after mixing for a bit for the banana flavor to absorb into the pudding. Both ways really helped me get my protein in during the early days. They also sell mixes of sugar free pudding you can make with fairlife milk.

Sometimes the 3 week stall happens earlier. Especially if dieting before the surgery. The stall generally lasts 2-3 weeks. Hang in there the scale should start moving any day now. We all go through it. Yours is just occurring a bit earlier in the game.

She said I could take it in liquid form like Metamucil. If you like it in smoothies that would be okay too.

The most important thing is to get in your liquid. Find some liquid you can tolerate. Minimum of 6 cups a day but try for at least 8 cups. Until you do you will continue to feel really bad, weak, and dizzy. And it will only get worse. Some people find it easier to drink broth or flavored water. Or maybe try ginger tea. Try different things until you find something that helps. There are anti-nausea pills your doctor can prescribe to help.
Focus on you, not the bullying. You'll be at a different job soon and you won't have to deal with it anymore. Their bullying is a reflection on them, not you. Until then distract yourself with taking care of yourself. This job stuff is just a temporary situation. Focus on getting your liquids and Protein in, eating healthy and getting to a good place, mentally and physically.

What you're experiencing is very common. I experienced it too.
Here's the way I think about it: First you were probably on a liquid diet. Second, you had surgery. Third, you lost weight quickly. All these stages are temporary. Now you've reached the fourth stage, which in my opinion is permanent. It's the maintenance phase. What happens now is much less dramatic. Now it's no longer about the sleeve doing the work. Now it's about YOU doing the work. This is the phase all other phases have been building up to. This is where the real day to day work happens.
As far as I know, we all go through these same stages. Welcome to the other side. You are not alone here. Good luck.

Warm broth was the easiest to take for me after surgery. Some bone broths have a decent amount of Protein. It can really help you up your Fluid and protein intake.

Fairlife milk (It's in a blue jug usually with the organic milk) is higher in Protein (13 per 8 ounces) and less in carbs. It's ultra filtered and much easier to drink than Protein Shakes. I was able to get my protein in without the shakes. Using fairlife milk, Bone Broth, and cream Soups made with fairlife milk while I was on fluids. Once I was on pureeds I added cottage cheese and greek yogurt which also helped reach my protein goals.

It's been an interesting 5 months and thanks to each of you for all the support and kindness (and honesty) that have helped me to learn how this all works.

My health: that's the reason I did this at 65. My numbers are rocking perfect-normal! All 7 of my "ologists" are thrilled beyond words, as I think they have really struggled over the years keeping my vertical! To have low total cholesterol, low normal triglycerides, and spot on A1C is a miracle. That said, I have had another small, silent stroke according to my neurologist this week. So good that I'm working towards the best health I can have.

My goal: I have concluded, based on the sage words of those who at 4 years out, that my body will find its point as long as I am doing the optimum eating & exercise for health as I approach 66 years in May.

My (current) issue: Control. As in I over-control. I am number driven, which isn't where I want to be. I was amazed and simultaneously appalled, that I could wear a size 6 (clothes and ring) oh, and apparently my feet were fat since my shoes are too big. (I think size charts got bigger over the years.)

I log every mouthful of food in my app, and weigh every day to have a sense of what my normal fluctuations are, and then look back to see if there is a pattern of something I ate that 1) gave me toad froth & nausea; 2) caused a bump up or drop down; and 3) the silly BMI number.

Conclusion: I would do this again, but way sooner! I might have avoided the failed triple bypass, and 4 strokes. Being here now is amazing, and I am grateful beyond words. And my thought is to stay on the site (as I do with my BC, ovarian, brain tumor groups) to encourage people.

    Annie

Why not just have a little spaghetti squash with the sauce and meatball?

Before surgery my fav foods were lasagna, carrot cake, and zaxby's buffaloed blue salad. Hoping i can get the salad again in a few weeks with the grilled chicken and just add the wing sauce.

I'm hungry a lot as well. I'm 5.5 weeks out. Almost to the no restriction point. The hunger is slowly gotten better as I progress through the stages. I read somewhere the hunger is due to high acid production. I've also read that when you are on solids the hunger goes away. I hope so. I guess I'll find out in a week.
