nevermore71 got a reaction from FluffyChix in How do you know when you're done losing?
If you've been stalled that long you are eating at maintenance. Eat less then 1000 calories a day. Track and log every morsel you eat. You'll start losing again. You basically stop losing when you don't continue to try once things slow down. You can do this. Your sleeve will still help you. You just have to put in some effort now.

Started out my journey 6 years ago with 263 lbs, HBP, Heart murmur, C-Pap machine, asthma issues... and a whole slew of other health issues. So I went through the process and dis the lap-band. Things looked great. Then about 3 years ago I started getting choked on foods. I thought, I just taking to big of a bite. So I slowed down even more and took smaller bites. Then it got to where I was getting choked on liquids. So I eventually had to go back and see my bariatric dr. He did all kinds of testing, labs. But, it was determined that that the lap band had to come out because the scar tissue was causing a stricture around the lip of my lapband. So April 2nd I had lapband removal and gastric bypass put in place. So now I'm 5 days post OP and I'm currently 221 lbs from my starting point pre surgery at 239. First picture is my pre lapband self and my post lapband self. 2nd pic is GBS day and my scars. Still bloated from gas. Last picture was me before GBS. I still hurt but I walk and eat/drink my SF Jello and High Protein Shakes.
Good luck to you all and I'll continue to post after surgery pictures as I take them.

nevermore71 reacted to Frustr8 in Yup. I regret this.
Oh at this particular moment I am mildly mellow. You see I have been undergrowing Tomkitten . Drum Roll Please, I am today 234.6, all who started in the 200s are visibly yawning at this point but children , Frustr8 was once 365+ , that makes 130 pounds down, and 84.3 pounds since my RnY surgery on September 5th 2018. I might just achieve my dreams, still got to work at it; as weather gets better gonna walk more, if i get dizzy, fall over. well I'm just will take a mini- break and then keep on. I now weigh close to 20 pounds less than Tomkitten, today he got the jaundiced eye from PCP, this worm turned into butterfly trying to dry those weak little wings out and then I just might try to fly. Maybe my rump will keep losing, didn't need that ballast anyway, know enough fat has gone that I'm sore sitting on hard chairs. Maybe I will be on onederland by summer after all! Valerie. Dr Needleman's Right Hand N.P. said she would be contented with sub- 200, we will see, if it does not destroy my fragments of health, I still worry it a little inside, I would like to aim for my 175, even though I have not been there since my,early adolescence, I find myself wanting to see what a 73 year old can do after all! But absolutely positively not regretful today. Tomorrow, don't know whether my emotions will be sunny and bright, just got I wait and see!

nevermore71 reacted to rperchard in Post op 13 yrs & maintaining
April 2019 marks 13 yrs since Roux-N-Y laparoscopic procedure. Peak weight: 305 lbs. I maintain between 155-160.
I have, & will continue annual follow-ups. Not only medically necessary, but makes me accountable.
My bypass continues to work for me: I listen to what it's "telling me" when I have those moments. You know..the voice in your head that leads you to haunt the refrigerator or cabinets; buy foods that you know could trigger cravings or worse (binge). Surgery can't eliminate the disease of obesity....which lives in my head. Your's too, if you're reading this.
I take action when I begin to see numbers trending up on the scale. (I don't wait til it's 20/40/50 or more lbs). Besides, I'm uncomfortable...along w gain comes bloat, discomfort, snug waist band, increased cravings.
After a few yrs, trying different "maintenance" approaches, Jenny Craig works for me...I feel better when weight is a pound or 2 on either side of 155. For me, I persist w weekley wrigh ins....keeps me honest. I've been as low as 145, but it's a struggle. And I don't want that struggle. I just want to be comfortable in my skin.
I'm challenged with anemia (intolerant of oral iron) & insufficient Protein intake. So, I do what I can to improve those values. I knew what I was getting into when I signed up for this. And so far, my bypass &, I pretty much listen to each other.

I believe they don't count your BMI during your supervised medical weight loss. It was a huge worry for me before surgery that I would lose to much on my supervised medical weight loss and no longer qualify for the surgery. They explained that it went by my weight before the diet and my falling below wouldn't disqualify me.

Are you still logging everything? I find I lose more if I log. Try logging what your currently maintaining at. So you know what your current maintenance calories are and then subtract 500 calories from that. Eat at that reduced calorie rate and you should start losing again. I eat low calorie foods throughout the day. Making sure I always get at least 60 grams of Protein in. Things like greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and lean chicken are good low calorie options that also high in protein. I'm a slow loser and never lost my appetite so it's not always easy. But I keep plugging away at it and slowly but surely I'm getting there.

when I was where you are, I'd lost 28 lbs (16 lbs the first month,12 lbs the second). I was a slow loser the whole time, but I ended up losing over 200 lbs. Everyone's rate of weight loss is different depending on so many factors (age, gender, starting BMI, metabolic rate, etc). Your commitment to your program is going to have a MUCH greater impact on your eventual success than your rate of weight loss will, though. So just stick to your program, follow the rules, and the weight will come off, either fast or slow.

I only took it for one month although my prescription allowed for 3 months. It changed my personality. I'm generally pretty laid back. While I was on it I simmered with rage. I don't think it was apparent to others but Is was to me. I didn't like how it made me feel. I don't know if this is common or not. I had a similar personality change on Chantix so medications sometimes have that affect on me.

Very uneven weight loss. I always carried a lot of weight in my bottom. The lower part of my bottom completely disappeared. But the upper part (shelf) didn't. Not attractive. Of course the weight came off the breasts first. Still carrying the last few extra pounds in my stomach and back shelf. I'm hoping when I lose my last 15 to 20 pounds the shelf and stomach fat will be gone. I guess it just forces us to try to lose it all so that our shape comes back.

As others suggested it's very important to log what you eat every day so you know you're not overeating. Try to keep your calorie intake between 600-800 calories a day with a minimum of 60 grams of Protein. If you do this then you can just trust the process. Sooner or later it will come off.
I also highly recommend weight training or body building so your body will consume your fat instead of your muscle. A lot of people who lose weight lose most of their muscle and get a emaciated look even when they are still overweight due to lack of muscle. Also the more muscle you have the more calories you burn.
Our bodies might fight the weight loss but if we do what we supposed to it has no other option but to lose the weight. Best of luck to you.

Ugh. Banana's aren't a slider for me. I'm 9 months out and recently had one half of a large banana and was in so much pain. It was the most uncomfortable thing I have eaten since surgery. Granted I'm thinking I musta woofed it down. But definitely not a slider in my book.

I cared for myself after surgery by choice. My mom was willing to stay with me if needed but it wasn't needed. You can walk, you shouldn't need any help. Two people in pain in the same household is seldom a pretty picture though.

I was amused to read through all of these comments. Honestly, what I really read about was a bunch of people being "normal!" A little wine at a wedding, a diet soda here and there, "a" slice of pizza, a square of cake at a party! Handful of Goldfish. You reckless beast! This is okay, right? We didn't get to be morbidly, sickly, obese behaving this way. It was whole bags of chips consumed without thought, large slices of sugary deserts, giant plates of restaurant foods consumed with ease along with endless breads and appetizers, buffets, fast food trips on a daily bases, half a pizza in one sitting (whole pizza?) Oh, the awful things we did to ourselves that brought us to this point in our lives. I've spent so much of my life feeling bad about my choices I don't want to anymore. I actually feel good about myself when I walk away feeling just fine about having a taste of a treat my husband is having. Once a week we light a fire outside in the pit and we make a s'more. I enjoy the whole process, get it all ready and take 1 maybe 2 small bites and hand the rest of it off to my hubby. We go to dinner a couple times a month and I order up a drink..(something lite on sugar). I take responsibility for it, I watch my calories, I savor my indulgence and if the scale isn't moving than I know what I have to do.
I guess my point is...don't hate yourself for doing normal things. What you did before wasn't normal.
My confession! I had my best friend over, she brought a bottle of vanilla smirnoff. I had some sugar free orange junk to add into it. Tasted like orange creamsicle. We have a lovely spa out back so her and I marinated in it all evening sipping our drinks and laughing. Next morning I found my clothes laying on the grass and our husbands were telling some ridiculous tales about us. The fire department even showed up because apparently our fire pit was burning a little too bright that evening. It was fun! I felt normal. I didn't turn into a raving drunk or eat like a maniac there after. I woke the next day, did my work out, cleaned my house, ate all things healthy and had no regrets. Well, finding my clothes laying about the yard was not a happy discovery.
Don't forget to still have fun!!! Cheers!

Be patient. Your body is going to lose at it's own rate. Slower is often better. Going too low calorie or exercising to much can trigger a stall. Just stay on track and you'll get there.
