trailtramper reacted to RickM in Poll: How many carbs?
My doc was adding veg to my diet at 10 days out as my Protein intake was sufficient (90+ per day) though still a little short of my goal of 100-110 to maintain my then current lean mass. It's a big YMMV thing.
On the main topic, I ignored carb counts, only seeking the best nutrition for the non-protein segment of my diet at the time irrespective macro counts. I started into the bariatric game 14-15 years ago when my wife was getting seriously into it (she was number one on the runway with her higher weight and more significant comorbidities,) which was still in the transition between yesterday's low fat fad and today's low carb fad. For the sake of the insurance mandated 6 month diet thing, we decided to go long term and work on improving overall nutrition rather than any miracle weight loss diets, and let the loss fall where it may - long term sustainability is much more important than any short term weight loss.
I wound up losing about a third of my excess weight in six months or so and decided just to go into a holding pattern while we worked on getting my wife onto the table, ultimately going self-pay a year or two later. I kept tweaking my diet, making some progress here and there but little additional net loss, though did maintain that original loss for several years. Once our insurance started covering the sleeve, and it was apparent I was not going to sustainably lose significantly more, I signed up for the sleeve. As I had already effectively worked into a WLS maintenance lifestyle with my wife, there was no reason to make substantial dietary changes other than what was needed to support the calorie restriction. As popular as it was (and still is,) I couldn't afford the prospective side effects of low carb dieting, so I kept things as balanced as reasonably possible within the protein and calorie limits; thankfully, our doc had never jumped onto the low carb bandwagon, either (low sugar, simple carbohydrate and junk food - absolutely, but no arbitrary carb limits.) That worked fine, and still does 6-7 years later, though about 1000 calories higher.
Establishing good fundamental habits beat miracle diets every time.

I think it is normal to have those thoughts. I always go back to the comment I hear and see repeatedly “I only wish I had done it sooner.”

trailtramper reacted to Berry78 in Vitamins-daily requirements?? So confused
Most Vitamins and minerals we seem to absorb pretty well. The notable exceptions are Calcium (we need citrate), and B-12. Iron- sometimes.. that one is usually worse in the bypass.
In general, I shoot for at least 100% of everything, and add calcium and B-12. Anything else I let my doc tell me I'm low.
Keep in mind potassium and magnesium aren't included in Multivitamins, so I analyze my diet to make sure I get enough.
People that don't take a good Vitamin every day can be low on loads of things. Copper, zinc, manganese, selenium ... etc. etc.
I'm always learning new things, so reserve the right to have missed something...

I had my surgery on 10/30, so only six days out. Feeling rough with JUST the liquid diet right now, second stage of soft food starts on Tuesday and can't wait down about 20 pounds since the LSD, so that's good.

One minute at a time! Go away from the kitchen. I basically lived on the bottom floor with the kitchen above. I had my husband here and my mom sending over food to feed the kids. There was no way, I could have done it otherwise. Even mindless hand to mouth would have gotten me.
    You can do it!

Hmm... that is strange. This is a bariatric jello by Bariatric Advantage, but I guess it would be no to that too.

I'm ok. Tired from lack of calories lol. I walked down a pier today and that was enough activity for me (granted it was also a 1.5 hour drive from where I live). Just laying low and waiting it out. Lots of chores this weekend to get everything **** and span so I don't have to worry about that for a while!

They have Steri strips on them I’m not supposed to take them off , but I do keep bandaids on top of them . I’m just tired . I can’t sleep and irritable . I wear my binder they provided me almost 24/7 . It helps with the pain . My follow up isn’t until the 16th but bari. 500 class is on the 9th that’s when I get purreed food
