Hi Andre first off let me say wow you have been through a lot. My story has some similarities. My HW 407 SW 367 CW 257. I came out of hospital 12lbs heavier than going in. After a week I started feeling very nauseous and had pain in my stomach. CT showed nothing wrong but I was fully impacted and had to have an enema. After that Fluid subsided and weight came off. Then week 7 I was rushed to hospital and had sepsis urosepsis and kidney stones! I had emergency surgery to put stents in. Over the next four weeks I had 3 more surgeries. Again with all the fluid the weight stalled. All the anaesthetics and pain meds shut the bowel down and I ended up back in there last week having another scan and full enema. For the Constipation I have to take Movicol double strength twice a day as long as I have painkillers. I'd like to come off them but I have chronic osteoarthritis [emoji20]
I also had H. pylori Pre-surgery and had it treated. While in there he saw that I had a hiatus hernia and repaired that too. I had my RNY on Aug 10th 17 and so far lost 110lbs so I'm happy with that and recovering each day. I wish you well with their rest of your weight-loss journey x

I don't have much wisdom to offer sorry. Everyone is different but I would speak to the surgeon about it anyway. Could turn out to be something fairly simple. The one trick I do know is that if you have a lot of gas and in the beginning you do, lie on your left side with your legs pulled up almost foetal position. It helps the gas to move. Good luck!

I had a sleeve, not RNY, at age 55 last year. I lost hair starting at month 4 but it started coming back around month 9. I have fairly thick hair so it wasn't noticeable. I have lots of excess skin - like catwoman7, but had my first plastics consult about two weeks ago. I'll likely have a panni and Tummy Tuck over the summer. The batwings, for me, are the worst. For a few months my face and neck looked really saggy, but that changed at about a year out. I look 15 years younger - no one believes I'm 56 now. I still have another 15 to go. Best of luck.

    Hi TryingDawn
I too am 56 (this week - celebrating by getting my pre-op ecg and chest X-ray! My RNY and band removal is all together in one op, open surgery, in 3.5 weeks. Nervous, much!
I had my band put in 10 years ago, but it is 5 years since it worked really well. Back then loose skin was manageable - I also figure it might be a bit worse this time, but way better than sore knees, hips, not running up stairs...
Mostly, I dream of scuba diving again...

I hope you feel better soon. I've had a few bumps in the road kidney stones and chronic Constipation. Only been three months and had six procedures. Hopefully that's it now! Feel better x

I came out of hospital 5kg or about 12lbs heavier than when I went in. They pump a lot of Fluid in our bodies and it takes a while for that a swelling etc to go down. After about a week it started dropping fast. I am 12 weeks out and had two major stalls due to further surgeries and Constipation but I have still lost 100lbs. Don't be discouraged stick to the plan and trust the process. The 4oz people are talking about is when you get to puree soft or real food. 4oz of Protein like fish or chicken can fill you up quickly. drinks and Soups are different because they are thin they just constantly trickle though. Don't be tempted to jump ahead or miss a step because you need time for your stomach to heal whether it was sleeve or bypass. Good luck guys hang in there!

I enjoy reading this thread. I haven't added to it yet but I will when I have some time. I need to work out the stats of the food. I had the RNY gastric bypass on August 10th this year. So far in the 12 weeks I have lost around 100lbs I will be seeing the dietitian tomorrow to review the plan then I will post the menu. I got a bit slack at writing it all down because in the three months I have had five surgical procedures and each time with anaesthetics and pain meds the weight stalls. I went back to work yesterday so I need to start writing it down again.

I have bags of frozen chopped veg in the freezer. They are so good for things like omelets, egg cups, Soups, stews, single serving casseroles. I also keep grilled chopped chicken, grilled chopped pork chops (center cut), flank steak chopped, ground beef/turkey with onion and garlic cooked and in the freezer. I also keep Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage crumbles in the freezer. I also have 2c bags of broth in the freezer. So I can pull things out frozen, throw em in a pot or saute pan and go! It save such crazy amounts of time and gets you more nutritious food than buying pre-made or take-out stuff.
I keep in the freezer (buy them when they are having sales):
chopped frozen spinach, collard greens, turnip greens
chopped frozen onion, red/green bell pepper, fresh parsley, cilantro (doesn't freeze very well)
sliced yellow squash, cauliflower, green Beans, broccoli florets, sliced okra, green peas, corn (I will use 1-2tbsp of grn peas or corn at times for an accent in low carb dishes)
frozen blueberries, strawberries, cherries, blackberries, cranberries

I eat pretty repetitively, so use the same ingredients in many many different recipes: red onion, rbp, jalapeno, cilantro gets used fairly quickly. Plus I also cook for Mr. Fluffy.
But, one thing I love to do is to get the smallest size of "anything" I'm buying. When I use it the first time, I chop all of it. I put it on a small plate or cookie sheet. I cover the plate or sheet with plastic first so stuff doesn't stick. Then I freeze it and put it a baggie or container. I label and date it. Then I can go in and grab what I need. On one cookie sheet I can get all of my red onion and rbp. Also if you don't like to chop, they have pre-chopped frozen that works great. When I'm cooking, I put the pan or a plate on my scale and just weigh and then tare after each ingredient. So it's super simple to grab my ingredients and quickly weigh it all out. Then I usually saute in Water or chicken broth to keep cals lower. For fresh like in salads, I will just keep out like 1/4 of the veg and wrap tightly in plastic wrap. It will keep for a week like that. If I see the fresh is starting to look sad, I will chop and freeze, then start over.
Me=super frugal, so I have almost zero food waste. Everything gets repurposed and combined and frozen before going bad. I always date and label so I know what's frozen. Makes meals 10 minutes--15 max--even slightly more complex ones.

I took clothes but didn't need them other than underwear as I wore a hospital gown. The things I found useful: my own toiletries travel sized Shampoo toothpaste etc. A hair brush and small mirror to do it while in bed. Lip balm and moisturizer are a must. You're not drinking much and the air-con dries out your face and lips. A good pair of slippers or easy shoes as they will encourage you to walk. A robe if it's cold which I forgot! Phone/tablet/laptop whichever with lots of data if they don't have Wi-Fi earphones and charger. I took a book of crosswords didn't look at it. I did take a notebook and pen and used them. Took makeup didn't use it just moisturizer and lip balm. Any paperwork or scans they ask you to bring. ID insurance details. Family contact numbers. A sense of humour and a half cup of bravery

I was told nothing with bubbles but I had coffee right from the start. I had it in hospital! Not as much as before because caffeine can dehydrate and getting enough Fluid is hard enough

It sure does Blackcatmatt. Not sure which country you are in so measurements might be different. My 3 months blood test was edging up to 9.5-10 Now I still take it every day just once to check and it's consistently around 4-5 and my cholesterol has dropped to 3.5 as well. Blood pressure meds have been reduced twice so it's looking good. I hope you have lots of success with your surgery too. Good luck

I only found that out after I got the kidney stones. The kidney specialist told me. I already knew gall stones or kidney stones happen especially if you have had them before which I had. They emphasized the importance of drinking all your Water to keep the kidneys flushed because surgery changes things. The first few days we are not drinking much but once you can try to drink as much as you can. These things don't happen to everyone but the water and Protein rules are worth sticking to. Good luck with your journey. Lots of people here to ask questions x

GwennyPenny reacted to hawaiiskies in Fell off the wagon - 7 mo. post op - 3.5 mo. stall - HELP
I am 7 months out, have lost 73 lbs from my highest weight, but have been stalled for 4 months.
Lost 63 lbs the first 3 months and only 10 lbs the last 4 months.
While my tolerance to foods got better I didn't think I was doing that bad until I started logging everything down again. From that I realized that I picked up so many bad habits again. And also my portions have gotten way larger then they should ever be. For a little while I was so disappointed in myself. I did all this work to get the surgery only to slowly slip back into horrible habits. I tried to ignore it and make excuses but I have finally come to terms that I have fallen off the wagon completely.
My snacking is horrible. I can tolerate almost anything. Although I can't eat a LOT. I can still eat up to almost 2 cups if I don't measure beforehand. I don't eat bad all day just once here and there but when it happens daily its enough damage. The only thing I am doing right is exercising daily. That's it.
This is hard to share but I really do want to do better and get back on track. I am now logging all my foods and measuring again. Thinking about it it seems a lot of it is food hunger or stress eating. Scheduled appointments with my psych at my surgical program. I've been feeling hopeless when it comes to my pouch these past couple weeks, like I wasted this procedure and completely broke my pouch. Trying to stay encouraged though. But any suggestions of how to better keep yourself accountable and how to get back on track would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you

I should probably check with the doctors office and clarify. It was pretty clear though in the paperwork that was sent home, so I’ve been hesitant to call. I know there is a big problem with opioids and I don’t want to seem like I have a problem. I don’t want to put any doubt in the doctors mind. This surgery is so important to me. We’ve invested a lot in time off and travel already.

I was given pain relief in hospital but then I was already on it for arthritis. They mostly did paracetamol in the drip but I take Targin and Endone daily. You can't have NSAIDs due to ulcer risk. Things like endone which is oxycodone or codeine can cause Constipation which they did with me. Pre surgery no problem post surgery as long as I am on the pain meds I need a laxative drink. For the trip home something simple like Tylenol or Paracetamol should be OK. I'd check that out. Vitamins. I take BNMulti which is a chewable bariatric Vitamin. calcium citrate and D. 948 mg cal 200mg D also chewable. I also have Vit B injections which I've had for a long time. I recently found out because I developed kidney stones week 7 that you should take the Calcium directly after or with food. If you have them by themselves the residue attaches to the kidney which can cause calcium oxalate stones but with food it digests with the food molecules. I had five calcium oxalate stones!
