I can only speak for myself but as the newness wears off I know I will probably fall back into my same routine as well. That is why I try to mix up the routine as much as possible like any addiction complacency is a killer.

Sounds like you’re trying to get back on track. I think food addiction is a lifelong struggle. It can be hard to ask for help, but my nutritionist stresses how important it is to reach out when you need it.

You went through The surgery, you already won! Some of us are struggling to get there. You got to revamp you way of eating and so do I Joanne. We all have issues and will work them out. Keep it up and measure, prepare, plan and stay strong. Just like life, sometimes we have to pick our self up and begin again. You got this!

It doesn’t this is just to hold pressure on your wounds .. so any moments or cough won’t bother as much and stretch your wound out.

It's mostly been greatly covered. I'll add that the first few days when it's usually so hard to get the Protein down, make a thick drink. Like twice the powder!

What a great write-up. I mean, I’m only 1 week post-op but can totally see the value in all of these. Thank you!

I am one year post-op on Thursday.
My best advice is to do whatever it takes to change your relationship with food. Make food fuel, not a reward, not a comfort, and not a friend. Nothing about this journey is sustainable without making that change.

I have done only one visit. The reason for the visit, is to make sure that your are mentally prepared for surgery and you know exactly what it entails, how it will change your life and what to expect after surgery. If deemed that you are making an educated decision, the doctor will give you clearance for surgery. I am not sure what happen if you have a history of psych issues or if you demonstrate uncertainty during your visit. Maybe in such a situation, you would have to do more than one visits.

Just one. One on one lasted an hour (at most - including her gathering basic info) My co-pay was $25 but the fee for writing a report was $150. That stung a little!

olympia25 reacted to Krista27 in Psych evaluation
I had three visits as well. First visit was just to talk about myself and the surgery, second was just to take a very long personality test, and the third was to go over the test. After that she cleared me.

We have doubted ourselves so often in our lives, and avoided facing feelings that make us uncomfortable. Now we have to make a full examination of our motives, find the truth, and learn to trust ourselves. It's all very hard.
I know I can diet, but I have to change my relationship to food permanently. Food has to become less important as a way to cope.

I'm in middle of my pre op journey. Sometimes I want to give up. Im an emotional eater and was scared to begin! I know I need this though. Is anyone or has anyone stopped the process and began again when their head straight. Looking for inspiration. Thanks.

I didn't stop the journey, but I definitely had doubts. I had my first appointment with the surgeon in April and I was expecting quick turnarounds with insurance. After a month of not hearing if I was approved, stress at work, and just old habits, I went back to eating ice cream every night.
I'm glad I stuck with it, though. I got back on track before surgery and lost 20 pounds before surgery at the end of June.
There are so many times I think if I hadn't had this surgery, I'd eat that donut, or pizza, or cake, or Oreo....list goes on. I feel so much better now although I know I still have to work on this for the rest of my life.
I am trying to work on myself now, as I know this will be long term. If I would've waited until my mind was right before surgery, I'd be getting fatter and more unhealthy. I'd never have had the surgery.
Good luck

Give up soda, sugar, and minimize carbs. Lose as much weight as possible before surgery. Hardest part is getting past head hunger and developing new habits. Stick to the 2 week liver shrinking diet to make the surgery as easy on the doctor as possible. Do not give in to the "Just one more time" voice cause there will never be the last time.

I like the Patches from Patchmd.com
Ive had good levels at 3 months and am scheduled to be checked again soon.
Besides having the VSG, Vitamins can get destroyed in your stomach before even being absorbed. So this method they go in through your capillaries and straight into the blood.
Also, it goes in over 8 hours.

@Karleena
Hi there and welcome! I wanted to chime in because we have a lot in common!
I had my surgery Oct 3rd last year, almost one year to the day of your upcoming date. Also, I am a graphic designer. Although I am near El Paso, Texas, I have a friend who went to Buffalo Art Conservation and Restoration college. And last, my husband and I are caring for my mother in law who has dementia and is also terminal.
I hope you find lots of friends and support here. I have! Out in the "real world" I know people can be negative and judgmental. I have not told some of my own family because of that type of likely judgment. I am very private and selective about who knows my story.
Best of luck to you as you move into your new life!!!
