Im on day 2 of purees and gained almost a pound. I am still not getting 500 calories a day in though I am only able to get down about 250 a day....but all pure Protein. I just made some scrambled eggs and added cottage cheese and it is Awesome!! I also pureed some tuna with some light mayo and a little relish and had that for lunch and dinner and it was really good. I am going to do it again today and add some boiled egg to add the protein. I think I stopped losing and gained because my calorie count it too low so I am just focusing on whatever i can puree up that adds some good protein filled calories today and see what the results are. My life is revolving around eating and drinking........

I'm 3 weeks post op and started my soft foods diet. Does anyone have any ideas of meals or tips? I have also stopped loosing any weight this week and I'm worried that it's because I started eating real food again instead of liquids. thanks for any tips or advice!!

I never feel full after a few bites. I'm about 4 weeks out of surgery and I can eat most Proteins, but not pork or beef. If I'm having salmon or chicken I don't feel full after a few bites. I've been posting on here that I'm nervous I'm eating too much...so I have a food scale and now I'm weighing everything. I eat about 2 ounces of Protein and then I stop...even if I feel like I could eat more. I don't want to be full to the point of feeling sick but I would love that feeling of fullness and knowing I ate enough and should stop.

I'm not sure if you were told to eat Protein first....if not...try it. You will definitely get full after two or three bites. When I'm full i either get the hipcups and or belch. My nosie runs when I overeat.

I haven't felt full yet either. I am noticing as I get to the end of my 3 oz my stomach starts to gurgle. I'm taking that as my sign. It is so different for everyone.
I tend to eat distracted and am working to break that habit. I've literally been eating with my eyes closed so I can really concentrate on how my body feels and reacts to what I am eating.
Since I don't really feel full I'm very careful to portion everything to keep from overeating.

For context, I had my surgery on the 7th. I feel like maybe I'm eating more than I should be. I see people saying they can only get a couple bites of something and they actually feel full. But I can eat more than a couple bites and I'm actively conscious of how much I eat so I force myself to stop. There is a slight feeling of fullness by that point but even still. Should I be eating less? What are the signs of being full?

I was just sleeved on 10/10... I will tell you the most important things that helped my hospital stay better.

    1) a heating pad- I kept this on my lower back and it kept me relaxed as much as possible. It helped settle some gas pain

    2) chapstick- your lips with hurt since you have a tube in during surgery. It really helped me

    3) slippers with a sole on them as well as a nice sized robe the nurse can put over your shoulders to cover your backside when walking

    4) try to find something for dry mouth before you go. That was the one thing I didn't do and everything still tastes disgusting because my mouth is so dry. I can't shake the feeling, but the hospital may have something.

It IS real!!! I'm currently laying in bed with full knowledge that I have no room for another bite but am still oddly 'hungry'. I've just told myself that the devil like my hunger is a liar and I will not pass anything through my lips that isn't Water. To me it's beginning to feel like the period pre surgery when I gained the most weight because I very often gave in to head hunger. It's a battle and it's on!

I follow a Keto/LCHF plan too so I keep carbs to under 20g. According to some of the books I've perused (The Obesity Code, Good Calories-Bad Calories, etc), Protein also raises insulin, just not to the same extent as carbs. My protein intake is around 50-60 g, which is on the low end of what WLS dieticians recommend. I realize that most forum members eat much more protein than that with excellent results so I might not be the best example to follow.

It depends on what philosophy of eating you follow. I have followed a Keto way of eating since the first day of my six month pre-op diet program. I keep my carbs below 20 grams per day, and my Protein is usually somewhere around 150 grams per day.
But that's the road I have taken. Others do not limit their carbs as I do. But it has been a necessary step for me, and is an absolute key to my success.
    Good luck!

    ChereS,
I showed up at my pre-op appt 5 lbs heavier than when I had seen my surgeon 2 months prior. He said to make sure I followed my pre-op surgery diet so my liver would shrink before my surgery (which was 6 days after). Like others have stated, just do the Clear Liquids. It's only before and after the surgery. For me, that's 6 weeks (which is over in 9 days!!!) but it is well worth it considering the trade-off. Hang in there. I was just as nervous about the weight gain as you are now but it really does depend on the surgeon. 5lbs shouldn't be a no-go but don't gain any more. Just think about how good you are gonna look when you start losing that weight! Let us know how it goes. Good luck and happy shrinking!!!

The answer to your question really depends on the guidelines implemented by your insurance company and/or bariatric surgeon.
I'm embarrassed to admit I gained 25 pounds between the time of my consultation appointment (Oct '14) and the week prior to surgery (Apr '15).
I engaged in daily food funerals where I ate multiple servings of my favorite foods 'one last time' before saying goodbye. I couldn't control my appetite.
Luckily, my surgeon and insurance company made no comment about the massive weight gain. I underwent surgery 2.5 years ago and maintain my new, lower weight without many issues.

If you're preop appointment is during the weeks you're instructed to be on a preop diet, it might be an issue. The preop diet is design to reduce abdominal fat and shrink your liver to prep for surgery. I'm not sure what your preop diet is, but mine was sugar free Jello, Popsicles, broth, and Protein Shakes. To gain 5 lbs on that is unimaginable. Every surgeon is different, but I have heard of cases when surgery is started and the liver is too fatty so the patient is closed up and surgery doesn't continue.

Whether they cancel your surgery or not depends on your specific situation. I would need to know more info. Did you start at 282, lose 6 pounds, and gain back 5, which would put you at 281? Did you start at 282 a few months ago, lose nothing up to August, and then gain 5 pounds to put you at 287? Either way, it depends on your surgeon's (and insurance) requirements. You need to ask your surgeon.
It may be impossible for you to lose 5 pounds by Friday, but a super strict low carb diet will probably get you close. Less than 20g of carbs, and lean Protein and veggies ONLY. I have dropped 7-8 pounds in 3 days that way.
Again, I don't know your specific situation, but I would probably strictly adhere to whatever guidelines your surgeon/insurance has laid out for you. They will know that you are not if the scale continues to go in the wrong direction.
    Good luck to you.

I have a required six months of dietary visits with my doctors dietitian. I have my last visit before my packet is sent off for approval on the 16th. I had gained weight the last visit, and im afraid I havent lost any from the last visit. Did anybody have weight gain before they start their liquid diet? Am I going to be denied because I gained?
