How much did everyone lose in the first week?

7lbs since surgery 9/14. 14.5lbs since preop the week before (9/7) (was on liver shrinking diet).

I was just wondering if I was on a good start or not. I've lost 14 pounds in 7 days. I was afraid I might be a slow loser.

14lbs in 7 days.. Slow loser ? Lol. Youl get a huge shock when you don't lose a lb for weeks. As it happens to most of us.

You ever lost 14lbs in 7 days before and considered it slow ? I wonder how that thought came to you. Were you expecting to lose 50lbs in 7 days? What would be considered not slow. Just curious myself.

Well I just wasn't sure what to expect actually. Because I've heard of some people losing 20 in the first week lol, I know that was kind of a dumb question, I just wanted to make sure I was doing something right. [emoji23]

I agree there is no dumb question. But do you know some people are starting of 600lbs and can lose a hell of alot first week. So try not to compare.

I think 14lbs in 7 days is incredible. Are you drinking enough Protein liquids? Don't want to have a shell of a body in the process! Lol! Just make sure you are following the full liquid stage (or whatever stage your Dr has you on right now), so you are healthy! Oh! Take your Vitamin supplements!

I'm on full liquids (or liquids, Soups and squishy foods as I like to call it) til he end of next week, then the following Monday I go to puréed- can't wait!

Yes I'm doing well with Proteins. Im just a little weirded out because I haven't gotten sick once! (Like thrown up) I know when I'm full, but my stomach just isn't sensitive. So I'm losing the weight, but then my brain is like, "I don't think it worked"

I haven't gotten sick at all either. I get hungry every couple hours but I can handle that. My biggest problem is trying to drink enough Water because of the hiatal hernia, it makes things feel very tight going down right now. I somehow got on a support group for sleevers, and I have been banded, but I believe some of our struggles are similar.

I only threw up in the hospital when they gave me my meds as the first thing to swallow! Nothing really makes me sick except sugar alcohol (something that comes from artificial sweeteners) I wish sugar made me sick but sadly it does not and I must maintain self discipline. I'm 14 weeks out and have lost 44 lbs.
14 pound in the first week is awesome!
Don't be surprised when it slows down and try to think of it as an average weight loss per week. That helps me. I'm averaging 2 lbs per week from my pre surgery weight which I feel great about. This way I don't have to explain how I did it because I've only told a handful of people. 2 lbs per week is what the diets out there say is a great and healthy weight loss so it doesn't seem abnormal.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
