ALFxRNY reacted to DrDon in First day after surgery - everything is going great
Hi all, I just walked in the door from discharge about an hour ago. I really wanted to post because as I was pre-op and reading forums it was pretty scary (for the most part) about the immediate after of surgery. I'm guessing it's like many things, people only post when they have an issue.
My surgery and post op have been nearly amazing; I had a full bypass and hernia repair yesterday via laparoscopic procedure, December 6th at around 9:00am and so far everything has been pretty darn good. There really isn't a great deal of pain to speak of, consuming the small amounts of liquid is an adjustment but easy enough. I've already had one full Premier Protein shake today spaced out at around 15 minute intervals and walked about an 1/8th of a mile yesterday and 1/4 today while in the hospital. I'm not experiencing terrible gas pains or heavy nausea. Truly, the worst pain I've had was from urinating yesterday afternoon when the catheter was removed and that's pretty much better today.
I know this is a journey, I know the potential for issues and opportunities will certainly arise from this new lifestyle but for me and I'm certain others don't be alarmed by the post op stories, everyone's experience is different and mine has been amazingly low pain / low stress.
    Good luck!

Yeah, I was just on Amazon yesterday with my GF who also had WLS back in July. The prices seem reasonable I’m going to go back on today!

Of course we're going to check on you! My holiday was boring, didn't do any shopping, very quiet. And I've been looking at the support garments on Amazon. Guess I should order one before I ever get a date, lol. Glad you are doing well and that the holiday went smoothly [emoji4]

THE PORK RIND, PERFECTED: Chicharrones Cooked in Olive Oil
Bacon's Heir takes fresh pork skin, melt off the fat, cure the skin in salt, and rapidly puff it in olive oil. The result is so outrageously fluffy they had to change the name.
Pork Clouds are wonderfully fluffy crisps of pork skin, so fluffy that we couldn't in good conscience call them a rind. So we looked up and a more appropriate name dawned upon us. We love taking them on trips, particularly of the outdoor variety. Wherever they end up, they help to expedite a busy day, crispen a relaxing day, or punctuate a perfect day. Pork Clouds has 5 delicious flavors to choose from:
Rosemary & Sea Salt Malabar Black Pepper Habanero Garlic Thyme Cinnamon Ceylon Every flavor of Pork Clouds is seasoned with only a few specific spices. Each one is particularly poignant, emphasizing the power of individual ingredients versus a large number of hidden flavors or preservatives. This methodology results in the absence of a few things:
No hormones No carbs Transfat-free Gluten-free Ingredients: Pork Clouds are made with three ingredients. We start with fresh pork skin, melt off the fat, then cure it in salt. Following this, we use a unique Olive Oil kettle cooking process to make them extra fluffy and especially tasty.
Allergen: *No Pork Cloud ingredients contain gluten, but for those concerned regarding Celiac disease or allergies - our facility is NOT certified as gluten-free.

@AnisaLeah Gosh, your surgeon is so smart! Congrats on putting that together!
I chose RNY because of co-morbidities and the presence of GERD and stomach inflammation. I felt like I needed the malabsorptive properties of RNY. Now I'm just crossing fingers and praying that all goes well!
Good luck! It really sounds like you're gonna have success!!!

I am currently doing the insurance requirements to have wls. I went into this thinking I wanted the sleeve but started being open to bypass. After talking to my PCP and my surgeon about my concerns I have decided on bypass. I have a family history of diabetes and high blood pressure (I have neither) that I'd like to prevent myself from having. Also, I have minor GERD so sleeve was definitely out of the question. Lastly, I don't really have an appetite in the first place so my surgeon identified that as a metabolism problem and said the sleeve is better for people who have the tendency to overeat. He says bypass would help with my metabolism problem. In any event, I won't know if I will be approved and get a date until May. Good luck and best wishes!
