Hi everyone! I'm Sunny. I finally have my first appt with my surgeon! What questions should I be asking at this appt?
Office told me surgery is covered 100% since I'm double insured. My BMI is almost 32. 202 lbs, some comorbidity HBP, cholesterol. I do have to wait until Jan 1 due to insurance requiring 3 month wait. Pre op diet? Will losing weight affect my ability to qualify? Recovery time?
    TIA!!

I did mine at different times. My surgeon said it was better to heal first. Also he would have a better idea about how much scar tissue I had before he converted me. He seemed to believe it was safer. It worked out for me bc at first my insurance wasn't going to cover the sleeve and after my band was out thry did!

    Hi All,
I was banded back in 2009 with a starting weight of 252lbs. In 3 years I was down to 149lbs. From 2012-2015 I got back up to the 200lb mark, yuck. I’ve had major food intolerances and heartburn ect. I had surgery for something else in 2015 and that surgeon took a look at my band and said “it doesn’t look right” so I’m suspect it has slipped. I have my consult for the revision surgery on Friday 9/15.
    Some questions:
What was the recovery like for you? How long did it take from your consult to the surgery? Anyone with Cigna? Can you share your experience with insurance? What is the post op diet like? Similar to the band? When were you sleeved and how much have you lost so far? Do you recommend the sleeve?

What was the recovery like for you? My recovery was not typical.. I came home with chronic bronchitis and had one of the most violent coughs I've ever had in my life that last about two weeks. On top of all that, I had horrible scar tissue all over my band, liver and spleen from the lapband. I had an endoscopy prior to surgery that showed no indication of esophageal dilation, no erosion, or any symptoms of scar tissue. My 45 minute surgery took 5 hours because of all the adhesions and I lost a lot of blood. How long did it take from your consult to the surgery? 2 months Anyone with Cigna? Can you share your experience with insurance? No insurance What is the post op diet like? Similar to the band? Post op was much different that the band for me. It took about 3 weeks before I could get much more than liquids down, and even at that point I still struggled to even get in enough Water. You just feel so full all the time. When were you sleeved and how much have you lost so far? July 12th of 2017, down 40 lbs since surgery. Been stalled for 3 weeks so that means I lost that 40 lbs in 6 weeks. The stall isn't a bad thing. I really needed time to let my body reshuffle.. and I've lost several inches in the stall time. Do you recommend the sleeve? Would do it again in a heartbeat!!!!

She doesn't post much or come on here anymore but we met and had lunch last week. She had bypass a month and a half after I had the sleeve. It's been so nice to have her as my friend through this. I live in the sticks so it's been a cool surprise to have met someone so nearby. It was lovely to nibble my food with someone who gets it! If you get the chance to hang out with someone you clicked with on here I recommend it. Pretty cool!

My story is pretty typical. I have been overweight most of my life except for the few times I went on crash diets, lost a lot of weight, only to regain it back and more.
My peak weight (or maybe it was the nadir) was when I hit 292 last January. I'm a 5'11" 48 yo male who should weigh 190. I was pretty depressed and didn't want to socialize or even leave the house except for work. I also had hypertension and was prediabetic. I still can't believe I didn't have full blown diabetes.
I made the decision to have a VSG in March, and the surgery was this past Tuesday, August 22, 2017.
I'm not hungry but the Protein Shakes are a bit of a drag. I even put one in a martini glass to make it seem better.
My mood is fair at this point.
Glad to find this forum to connect with folks on similar paths.

Atkins Lift Protein Drink . . . 20 g of Protein per bottle, counts as Water, not nearly as disgusting as Protein Shakes.
I still like eggs, thank goodness. A lot of stuff I've tried I'm not crazy about--canned chicken pureed and made into a salad was disgusting to me. I'm okay with the ricotta bake, but can't eat a lot of it. Like yogurt or cottage cheese.
    Still early days here . . .

HI, I like the Syntrax Nectar (they sell it in the store on this site). I got the sampler pack and it was fun to try different tastes - I mix it with a complimentary flavor* of yogurt and it is good! I tried the mix in water and it was not great tho.
*Ex: I mix the peach flavor with peach yogurt. caribbean cooler is good in any fruit flavor yogurt.
    Hope this helps.

Hey there! After doing my 6 month check-ins with my doctor, I am FINALLY approved by insurance and have a surgery date of October 10th. I have noticed on here that a lot of people have to do a liquid pre-op diet before surgery. My surgeon has me doing a pre-op diet that pretty much mirrors a ketogenic lifestyle. I'm curious to see if anyone else's program is this way? I can basically have any Protein or vegetable I want, as long as it isn't startchy. It doesn't seem like it's going to be too bad for the 13 days. I just heard the withdraws from carbs can be bad. If anyone has any good snack or meal ideas, I'd love to hear them
