CJ Sunshine got a reaction from FluffyChix in My first egg
I’m still at the point of very little food at a time. Some days I can’t even eat a whole egg, but it is getting easier...as long as I remember to go super slow, it’s not as uncomfortable to eat.

Your post made me laugh! I remember how excited I was when I was cleared for eggs! I made two eggs over medium and sat down eagerly to eat them. My husband looked at my teeny plate and serving and said "there's no way you'll be able to eat that!"
Sure enough, I got most of the way through egg #1 in about 10 minutes and I was DONE. Stuffed. But because of my husband, I stubbornly kept trying. I sat there for another 30 minutes and managed to get about 4-5 more bites in (an egg and change over that entire time).
I can now do 2 eggs with relative ease, but that initial meal was a doozy! I'm almost 6 months out and it still is hilarious how little I can eat.

When I was a kid, my parents owned a piece of property in upstate New York. The dairy farmer next-door used to mow our field for the hay and we used to get free milk.

CJ Sunshine got a reaction from GeTnBackuP in Thanksgiving? I’ll be 3 weeks post op....TORTURE!
Friends of mine have had Whole Foods cater Thanksgiving and were very satisfied. Glad I could offer a helpful suggestion!

Thank you for the catering idea- I think that's what we'll do. Whole Foods is down the street and actually not too bad for T-Day fixings!

Staples? So was yours an open procedure, instead of laparascopic? No wonder you were in a lot of pain!

What about catering it? At five weeks post-op, I still have no interest in food, so being around it doesn't actually bother me. But I still don't like eating in restaurants yet...however, if your family wanted to eat out, you could go along and just get some butternut squash Soup or something like that. I'm probably going to cook Thanksgiving dinner this year, but it will be simpler. But I should be able to eat most of the food, in teeny tiny portions, by then.
By Christmas, you will at least be able to eat some of the food, so don't worry about that one...

CJ Sunshine got a reaction from Adriana_losingit in How much help did you need?
Did you have a DS? I've been told two days overnight in the hospital, which seems consistent with what I've read. I'm shocked to hear you were discharged the same day and drove yourself home! My hospital requires a responsible adult pick you up on discharge.
While it is laparoscopic, I certainly would not describe this as a minor procedure and nothing I've read indicates the norm is less than 60 minutes. My doctor says an hour and a half to two hours surgery.
I'm curious if we are talking different procedures or if practices are just that variant.

CJ Sunshine got a reaction from Rose400491 in What’s your favorite thing to eat on your puréed diet?
I just finished purees and am on soft food now. My favorite thing, both for taste and ease of eating, was and still is cottage cheese. I always loved cottage cheese and I found that it went down so easily, that it remains a favorite. Also, I loved the pea Soup I made from scratch.

Oh no! Don't sweeten my cottage cheese...It's savory all the way for me...in fact, if I could (but I'm too early for it) my preferred way to eat it is with onion and caraway seed...like my mom used to make!
Now, that strawberry jelly trick would work well with ricotta cheese in my book...that cheese I like sweetened up!

CJ Sunshine got a reaction from FluffyChix in Let's Play Another Round of "How I Get My Protein" post WLS
OMG, I so relate to this post! I read on here about people who are eating solid food almost immediately after surgery...now, 5 weeks out, I cannot even imagine that! I just moved on to soft foods, which includes fish and dark meat chicken and I can barely get 2 ounces in...and some things (ground turkey to be exact) just don't work! I'm grateful that in the first weeks my diet was so limited. I didn't care about food anyway and it made it easy to get my protein in...plus it all went down so easily. My recovery experience would have been very different if I'd tried solid food quickly.
I'm still needing a shake for Breakfast, because otherwise I couldn't possibly get enough protein in...even with a shake and fairlife milk in the morning, some days I still come up just short (although most of the time I hit my 80g).

Thank you everyone!!! I blended my chocolate shake with ice and half of a banana and it helped a lot! I was able to get down a whole shake finally!!

I’m slowly getting more and more down! I can have one full water bottle now (my water bottle is 30fl oz)

You might want to try Unjury chicken Soup. It is 21 g of Protein and it is savory instead of sweet...I found it very easy to get down. I'm more concerned about you posting that you only got down 3/4 of a bottle of Water. I don' t know how many ounces that is, but water is your number 1 concern right now...you need to try to get as close to 64 oz per day of fluids...way more important than the protein in the first few weeks.

CJ Sunshine reacted to ShelbyMoore in Husband told people about surgery
M.A.,
I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m just like you.. in that... I want no one to know. I’m very private as well. My husband knows and that’s all. I’ve reminded him often not to tell and I think he won’t. He told me he had to tell work why he was taking a few days off and he said he told them I was having surgery but didn’t specify why. My surgery is tomorrow and so far my husband has kept his word... that I know of.
Some may tell you it’s no big deal, but it is a big deal that he told. All you can do is be honest with him about your feelings. Let him know you are hurt that he didn’t respect a wish of yours - something that was important to you. I’m sure you already told him but it’s important that no matter what he feels you want him to hear YOUR feelings.
Maybe you won’t have to deal with his business partner in the future. Your mother-in-law I’m sure you’ll see more often. If they talk about it, I would minimize the conversation. I won’t expand on it unless you want to. Sometimes if the conversation is shut down people get the hint and move on.
Most importantly, you need to focus on yourself. You are doing this for you, your health. I wish you the best!!

Clare is right! It will drive you crazy.
I wish someone would have told me--it's not My 600lb life and after the commercial you're down a pants size.
Youre probably retaining Water. It will come off.

CJ Sunshine reacted to monalyssa33 in Whoa! Moments
I'm sure I'm not alone in having moments where you are shocked by the changes your body is making. What are some of your moments that made you stop and say, "Whoa!"?
The most recent change I've noticed has been being able to see the tendons in my hands and feet. I still catch my reflection in windows and think, "who is that?!" Since my job is fairly physical and has me stooping and kneeling a lot, I am amazed when I can basically jump back up from a kneeling position without breaking a sweat or having to grab onto something. In fact being able to push myself up from any position (especially laying down) still surprises me. When I first started to see my collar bones, I'd see how visible I could make them by moving muscles or my neck and arms in certain ways (okay I still do this).

CJ Sunshine got a reaction from MN_Meg770 in How often did/ do you vomit post-surgery?
5 weeks post op SIPS DS...no vomiting here either. I don't react badly to anesthesia (some do) and I have followed my doctor's instructions very carefully....the thing that takes time to wrap my head around is just how slowly and how thoroughly I must chew anything and how little I can eat at one time.

CJ Sunshine reacted to mi75 in Vet Search
I agree with James on this. There has been a mass exodus of many of the vets that were here when I started my journey. I agree there are a lot of newbies in all of the forums attempting to give advice. While i'm glad they are all here, truly i'm glad they have found this site, it's a little tough to get advice on my regain by somebody who admittedly hasn't even had their surgery yet.
I have been very selective about which forums I post in and read from now, because there is a lot of information that doesn't apply to me.

CJ Sunshine reacted to summerset in Vet Search
Hopefully not. The last thing this site needs are local bariatric heroes with a know-it-all-attitude that are all about people needing to "wear their big girl panties" when dealing out their so-called "tough love" and behave like crybabies themselves when someone dares to talk back in the same manner.
However, if you're really missing them quite a few can be found at Obesity Help.
