  1. I'm 18 days post-op, still on a full liquid diet. I have noticed that when I eat yogurt (the heaviest thing I currently eat) I am in the bathroom exactly 6 hours later, even if that is 1 am. I'm wondering about when I start eating solid food, will I always have a middle of the night bathroom run? Also, when my intestines get active they are really noisy...like rumbling across the room noisy. Is all this just part of healing or am I going to have to get used to having an alien reside in my belly?

    My god......what have I done?

Those first few weeks are rough...but it does get easier and better. I'm 6 months out, 100 lbs down and super happy with my decision to have SIPS. Give yourself a little time...and in the meantime, do something really nice for yourself today, to help feel better for now.

    Hair loss

Last week I asked my doctor this question...he basically said it stops when your weight levels off...I knew it was likely to happen, but I kept hoping it wouldn't!
  4. I’m 5 months post op SIPS (modified DS) and 110 lbs down. I’m loving my tool, but hair loss has become a reality this month...no one else sees it yet, but I sure do. My hairline is getting very thin at the sides! I know it comes back but when? How long does it keep falling out? I take Biosil...anything else I can do?
  5. When I saw my surgeon last week, he asked me "any questions?" So I said, "when does the hair loss stop?" His response: "when your weight loss stabilizes." To which I responded, "Sh%#!" And then he said, "Only you notice it." I hope that's true! Oh well, guess I'll just deal with it...certainly not ready to stop losing yet.
  6. For years I've been prone to eczema flare ups that come and go....well, since surgery last week I've had one of the worst flare ups across both sides of my abdomen. I suspect it was triggered by the shock of surgery to my body. Anyone else experience anything like this right after surgery?
  7. I do still drink a protein shake for breakfast every day...and meet my 80 G protein ... I’m doing all of that...and it just keeps thinning
  8. I am guessing your intention was to be funny, but I’m honestly not terribly amused...this feels very insensitive to someone reaching out about something that feels very traumatic.

    Hair loss

I’m. With you on this! I had surgery in September and I just posted yesterday asking when does it stop?!!! I’ve had mixed responses from people...basically it varies for everyone...like everything else in this journey...ugh!!!!
  10. Thanks. I started at 395.
  11. I still enjoy the experience of going out to dinner with my spouse or friends. I will sometimes order an appetizer if there is something that appeals to me as a meal (mussels or crabcakes, for instance) , or share a meal if we can agree on one thing. But if I want a regular meal, I just order it, knowing that I will take most of it home. When I ask for the doggy bag, I always say, "It was delicious. I just can't finish it." If out with friends, I order my own meal and just take home the leftovers...If I don't order a full meal, then I don't usually split the bill.

    Eczema flare up

Sorry to take so long to respond. I haven't been on here in a while. My flare ups subsided after about a month or so. I still get the occasional flare up, the same as I did pre-surgery, but nothing like it was in those first few weeks. I did a bunch of research and I do believe it was just an autoimmune response to the trauma of the surgery.

    "He didn't Have surgery".... rant

And even if it were easier, why would that be a bad thing? Anyone who has decided to go the surgery route has certainly exhausted all other options....no one chooses this because dieting is hard...we choose it because dieting doesn't work long term.

    Sense of Smell

Has anyone else's sense of smell changed? Does it come back? I really find myself hypersensitive to smells ever since my surgery. It's easy for me to not overeat, because nothing actually smells very good to me...it's my biggest hurdle in eating any kind of meat right now...I just kind of force it... I'm a SIPS DS patient...not sure if that makes a difference for this question....

    Sense of Smell

I wonder how surgery could have changed my sense of smell..but you are not the only one who says it has...and the forums are full of people saying their sense of taste has changed (and the two are linked)....hmmmmmm
  16. 10 weeks out from SIPS DS...down 60 lbs from surgery, 76.5 total. Feeling good.

    NUT relationship

Does your nutritionist do email? It might be helpful if you emailed her, so that she has no reason to forget that you asked for a meal plan. My nutritionist is great...she answers every question and offers helpful suggestions. Her advice, however, is pretty generic....which I have found with every nutritionist I've ever met.

    My first egg

Just ate my first scrambled egg post op...they were tiny (farm fresh) so I made two...could only eat 1/2...it was delicious and I felt full so I stopped...now it’s a little heavy in my stomach but it is the first thing I’ve eaten that resembles solid food and I think my stomach is still trying to figure out what to do with it.

    My first egg

I’m still at the point of very little food at a time. Some days I can’t even eat a whole egg, but it is getting easier...as long as I remember to go super slow, it’s not as uncomfortable to eat.

    Is this my new normal?

I can see how much my body has changed since my original post. I no longer get up in the middle of the night and the beast within is a little more settled and quiet...it’s an ever changing process.
  21. Please tell me the flatulence goes away! I'm day 6 post op. For the last three days I pass gas constantly and it smells so awful.. I'm praying this is a temporary thing...any suggestions?
  22. Friends of mine have had Whole Foods cater Thanksgiving and were very satisfied. Glad I could offer a helpful suggestion!
  23. Yes, but I couldn't have most of the fruit and goodies in the puree stage!
  24. Oh no! Don't sweeten my cottage cheese...It's savory all the way for me...in fact, if I could (but I'm too early for it) my preferred way to eat it is with onion and caraway seed...like my mom used to make! Now, that strawberry jelly trick would work well with ricotta cheese in my book...that cheese I like sweetened up!

    Getting protein in post-op

You are 100% right....My doctor emphasized hydration as being more important than food in the early stages. Obviously, one needs to work on both, but dehydration is the number 1 complication that puts people back in the hospital after weight loss surgery.
