Apple203 reacted to Matt Z in I’m so ashamed
Believe it or not, this reaction is a positive one. You've "slipped up", and you are upset about it. That's a VERY good thing. Work harder next time. Try harder next time. When you think you are going to cave, remind yourself of what you are gaining by giving up these unhealthy food choices. Now is when to start looking for alternatives, because those cravings, while they might reduce, generally don't ever go away. This is where the habit changing comes in.

You haven't failed. Because you really haven't really even messed up because you aren't on your pre-op diet yet. So give yourself some slack here, clearly you are displeased with your actions, and that's fantastic! So, what could you have done differently? You don't have to answer here, but think about it.
The burger on it's own isn't *THAT* bad... the fries, mayo, bread, etc... that's the bad stuff (at McD's anyway). So, look for the tweaks and changes you could have made to make that meal better for you.

You've got this, as ashamed as you are, the fact that you are, means you've got the right mindset moving forwards.
    Stay Strong!

I quit sugar and simple carbs 5 months before surgery. If I had any carbs, it was oatmeal, whole wheat and so forth. I also started counting every calorie I ate and keeping track. This because I knew I over eat and I needed numbers in black and white to keep me straight and honest with myself. I also quit caffeine and anything carbonated. Just let all that go. It really made the transition after surgery so much easier for me.
My tip for after surgery would be to cook "wet" dishes. Since you cannot drink during a meal time, you don't want to try to struggle with eating dry meat or veggies. I did things like make spaghetti sauce with ground turkey mixed in. No NOODLES of course. I make a lot of different Soups and I blend up a lot of veggies so they are easy on my stomach. Try exploring some wet dishes you can make now so you have some ideas for post surgery.

Good job! I joined a gym last week and I'm really enjoying it, too. But I'm terrible at pilates

I am 50 and did gastric sleeve a year ago and have lost 155 lbs. I probably have another 20 lbs to lose most of which is in my thighs and rear now. You can see that I don’t have a firm mid section (a lot of what’s there is skin) and you can also see I have lose skin under my arms and decent muscle composition.

While I had A lot more weight to lose than you it’s a no brainer to chose a functioning body over skin that is stretched taut and tight over 155 lbs of fat.

I am the OP... turns out he has violent tendencies.. his behavior lately has been very erratic and about a week ago he was drinking a lot.. we got into a verbal argument because he said I didn’t care about him or love him and he hit me once in the face and another time in the arm. Charges have been filed and I have a protection order in tact. It has taken a lot for me to realize that I deserve much better and someone that will support me and encourage me to follow my goals and dreams. I will not let him control my life. Everyday is a new beginning for me.. I just ran my first 5k and finished it and couldn’t be happier.. my weight loss has slowed but any loss is a loss. I will do this for me!

Hi, I am also from the midwest (iowa). I am also 55, 5'2" with start weight of 200.5. I am 14 months out and down to 113. The only sagging skin is some around my belly. I am always being told I am getting to skinny. The Dr at my last visit stated I was normal weight. I do work out 4x weekly for a hour. I am sure this has help me tone up. The loose skin around my belly really doesn't bother me to much, you can't tell with clothes on....lol.....you got this

I mean, everyone’s skin will sag at some point in life. We can’t hang on to our youthful elasticity for life. So yes, it may but eventually it will.
I would rather be at a healthy weight with saggy skin with the option to have it removed versus fat and unhealthy with stretched out skin

Honestly, I can't remember what they suggested for calories, fat, and carbs right now either. My book may say but my husband "helped" me clean so I need to find it.

My stall isn't nearly as drastic, but I'm super frustrated too. I'm 7.5 weeks out, I've stalled twice and this one has been about a week. Granted, I had REALLY bad nausea for over 2 weeks and barely ate or Frank anything or barely moved and I am sure that didn't help and maybe is the cause. But I've been eating and finally drinking the most fluids I have I think, ever. Since my surgery i had terrible pain for the first 3.5 weeks, I was ok for maybe a week and then I had the horrible nausea and NOW (yesterday!) I did something to my knee and am waiting for an appointment! And this was while I was getting exercise stuff. Lol I swear will I get to 1/4 of goal?! So resting the knee with ice, and I don't know if I should cut my calorie intake or leave alone so I don't confuse my body more! It's 700 or less, over 5 days average of 685, most being 730. Carbs no more than 36. Probably too high, as soon as I can start walking I'm going to, I ordered a sleeve for my knee for the future

Maybe 800 calories is too low? That’s a deficit of at least 1300 per day.
Either way I know it’s frustrating to be at such a long stall. I hope your RD has some insights for you.
Hope it breaks soon for you!

I think the ideal is 1 gram of Protein per 1 pound of lean body mass, right? e.g., I am 190#s, 46% fat, 100 pounds lean mass, so 100 grams protein a day -- not 75% of 190, which would be about...150 grams-ish. There's no way a typical obese person would be 75% lean...

Try your very best not to compare and get yourself down. This is a very personal journey and while we are all going the same direction we are not all on the same path.
Your age - older is just harder
how long you have been overweight - last few years vs. whole adult life
other medical issues and the meds you may take for them - damage to your metabolic system. Long term damage here can take months to fully recover from
since everyone will answer these and other questions a little different each will respond to the Sleeve a little different but all will get there if you follow the plan and learn the new habits that will carry you in the second year and beyond.

Ok, this surgeon needs to stop taking about nutrition and leave that to the nutritionists (granted I know I'm not one, but I've done enough research into these things to know that what I'm talking about is true, plus I've talked to my Nutritionist about this stuff as well) Surgeons are great at surgery, but would you discuss the chemical make-up of the gasoline you are using in your car, with your mechanic? No, you'd want to talk to someone that specialized in fuels. Surgeons are Mechanics, Nutritionists are fuel specialists.

Sure you don't need *THE* most expensive Protein, but not all Proteins are created equal, and using store brand... you are more than likely not getting all the Amino Acids and BCAA's that you should (or could) be. Plus, store brand stuff tends to have lower quality, less refined proteins which can lead to tolerance issues.

Clearly to each their own, but paying a little more for a high quality protein *IS* going to be beneficial.
Hell, not even every protein metabolizes the same. This is why I'm taking Casein at night and whey in the morning. Casein is a much slower uptake protein and helps with muscle recovery specifically overnight while you are sleeping. Whey is a faster update protein and is used during the day for muscle and energy support. Having the proper AA's and BCAA's is pretty important.

OK :-) So since your labs are coming back low, may I suggest that you switch to Bariatric Advantage or Celebrate Vitamins and Calcium supplements? Both are designed specifically for bariatric surgery folks.
