You should have an IV for pain meds from what I've experienced with other surgeries and from what I've seen. I know we all have very differing pain thresholds. Also, as painful as it may be walking does move the gas around and gets things moving. Even a few baby steps back and forth should be beneficial. I'm proud of you and congratulations.

Some of that pain may be the gas they used to expand your stomach. If you get up and walk around it will go away. The only discomfort you have is with the incision, no pain on the inside as it doesn't have pain. I walked around a lot to break up the gas and left the next day, no pain meds used at all. I took a Tylenol PM when I got home. The gas can cause a lot of pain and pain meds won't help. You need to move and walk.

That's rude. I had my own personal nurse and was hooked up to IV drugs for the pain; was out of it slept for like the first 2 days straight then they were on anytime I pushed the buzzer looked after me like a king

Congratulations to everyone checking in or who has checked in already. Take a few slow deep cleansing breaths and repeat, relax and remember you aren't alone. Good luck to both of you on your surgery. I'm 5 months out and I count myself so very lucky. I have my life back and don't regret a single thing. Just remember to keep walking, to get the gas out. I never had any discomfort. My diet was Clear Liquids one week and full liquids week two and three. It was that third week I thought I'd kill for a burger, but that passed. You are about to embark on a wonderful journey. Keep in touch this group will answer all of your questions and are here to support.

Good luck. All will be ok. Had surgery in Aug. Down 60lbs best decision I have ever made. Off slot of meds I was taking. You got this girl.

Good luck to all having surgery tomorrow! If you are still anxious when you get to the hospital, let the nurse know that you need something to calm you down.
It will be over before you know it and you will be in your way to a new you!!

You may have some gas in your body from the surgery that gives mild discomfort, but no worries it is gone by day 2 or 3. Short walks and moving around helped me get it all out. I was completely off pain meds before 1st week was over.

Be calm going in surgery day and next thing you know you'll be resting in the recovery room. They'll keep you nice and numbed up the first night, and you'll be home before you know it, eager to work the new diet.

You’ll do great!! I was nervous too. When I would start to worry, I had to remind myself to leave it in God’s hands. :-)
