You nailed it...I am getting pretty good at telling people to STFU these days. One hand, I think its the pre-op diet other hand, I think its just the new me. I am not taking this step lightly and I am not doing it for a quick an magical fix - I am however, doing it for myself and my family. As far as my MIL, thankfully she doesn't live close and we don't see her often. My husband basically told her if she isnt going to support my journey - she is not welcome on it. I'm thankful to have a good guy by my side.
I did put a complaint in to the HR department, as I sat and thought about it for a few days I only got madder. I don't want anyone to lose their job but someone in that field should understand words/actions have consequences...

...so today, I told my mother in law that I was having WLS and getting sleeved Friday (28-Jul). She told me to save myself the recovery and just stop eating french fries. Where was that helpful information all along?!?!?! LOL
In all seriousness, I am in the process of getting approved for time off after my surgery and the short term benefits manager at my company literally told me that if I utilized the work gym, I wouldn't have to take time off to "deal with this now".

Seriously, WTF people. Its hard enough making the decision I made, so not very thankful for the peanut gallery!
I am trying to stay positive and blocking out all the judgy comments. I am hoping that will be easier when I can rock an "I told you so" body.

I was sleeved today and this pain is nothing compared to my C-section. Being nervous is normal but I'm sure you will do great!

I stayed pretty busy cleaning/preparing until close to the end, which helped to distract me. The night before, of course, I added all of that reflection to the anxiety about hearing the alarm, being on time, having everything ready, etc. I had lost 40lbs since starting the program (only 4 on the pre-op liquids) so I restarted the "maybe I can do this on my own" debate.

I finally realized that I already made my decision awhile ago. I only started investigating this option in February and was still on the fence when I started the program. I decided to try the nutritionist and attended the support group meeting and, at some point my thinking shifted and I decided I wanted to do it and actively started pursuing a surgery date/insurance approval, etc.

I acknowledged the concerns and anxiety and reminded myself that I had done all the research and weighed the pros and cons multiple times...and the outcome was always the same: go for it! And that decision was made during daylight using my rational brain. I told my anxious, chattering brain that I was going through with it no matter what and finally went to sleep.< br>
I will say that I was glad to have the first appointment so I didn't really have time to get anxious. I took one of my sleep helpers (clonazepam) at home at their recommendation and as soon as they put the IV in, gave me something "to help the transition to general anesthesia". I honestly don't remember much after the IV went in.

I'm now on day 9 post-op and feel like everything has always been this way. It's weird, actually, because other than a few cuts on my belly, I can't really tell that I'm different. Even in the hospital, I had this weird, irrational thought that they hadn't really done anything except make some cuts on my abdomen so I'd think they had done surgery...like the whole thing was one big placebo experience.

I can obviously tell by eating and drinking though. The whole experience is not a walk in the park. It's surgery. You will feel crappy, but everyone's experience is different as is everyone's definition of and tolerance for crappy. I knew what the possibilities were and felt I was as prepared as I could be so I handled it the best I could and things seemed to improve by leaps and bounds every day. I had no gas pains at all, but did struggle with a bit of nausea (that improved tremendously with room temperature Water vs. ice water). The rest is mostly inconvenience...peeing every 2 hours because of the IV, etc.

Hey fellow July sleevers, I get to join this elite crew in two more days. I am getting sleeved Friday. I have been pretty excited and just ready to start this journey for a while, until yesterday. I am starting to freak out a bit - woke up in a panic last night and today have been crying at the drop of a hat. I hope it will pass quickly and next week, I can share an update that "I DID IT" and its all good! Hope you all are doing great!

The first 3 days suck. Until you pass gas. I felt like a balloon ready to pop. And once all the gas passed I felt like a new person!! Speedy recovery xx

Today I weighed in 8 days post op 30 lbs lighter. I'm down 30 lbs it was empowering. I finally was cleared to walk on tredmill and ride bike at gym so I went to my gym and did a 30 minute bike ride and then had to run to the mall to buy a summer dress for my best friends engagement party in 2 weeks and I was one full size down. This is literally only ONE week post op.

I'm onto puréed foods as well and for dinner tonight I got to purée a bean chili with fat free sour cream and a little fat free Mexican cheese. My ninja made it so smooth and it was beyond delicious. My biggest incision where they removed the stomach is the only one that is sore but my doctor said that's normal.

I'm loving life!!!!! Love sharing our journeys Xo

...you will never be invisible if you don't want to be! Personally, I have made an art of becoming invisible to cope with my unhappy feelings about myself. I found that I used to eat to numb the unhappiness and try every which way to distract attention from myself in the hopes that people didnt notice how unhappy or heavy I was. Its still the same me as I am sure its the same you. 69 lbs is AMAZING. Y-O-U are doing that.
But you are right, I think as we add weight on society doesn't see us, friends don't really see us family even sometimes starts to pay less attention. We are still us...all the good, all the not so good...and less french fries

People don't understand what it's like to actually be thinking and deciding to make this life changing decision. My father was nasty to me for months telling me how I just needed to diet and exercise. Mean while he was bringing junk food in the house everyday. My aunt told me stories about people dying and being so unhappy. How can we live off of 1/2 a cup of food per meal.... it's more like how can you live off excess food... you don't you get to where we have all been and then have health issues and depression. You are going to do amazing and don't let anyone make you second guess yourself or make you feel bad. Getting this surgery is the best thing I could have done and I just wish I had done it sooner. My dad told my mom the other day he is SO HAPPY I DIDN'T LISTEN TO HIM. My aunt is so happy with how well I am doing. My coworkers are starting to ask questions and I just shrug them off and say hard work... which it is and don't think it isn't. I can't wait to hear how well you do! Best of luck and remember walk walk walk... I can't say that enough.

...some days I can't even with people! Good for you for trying to save your life. I swear, someone said "Anesthesia is no joke" , I responded with "So is heart failure for carrying around an extra 100 lbs" That shut them down for a little while anyway. SMH.

THANK YOU! Its good to know that there is a lot of love out there for what we are doing, once we get passed the few negative ones that don't understand, don't agree or can't get passed their own issues to be supportive! I am getting sleeved Friday. I hope to be as happy and secure as you soon!!!! Good luck
