If you're really that nervous, take it upon yourself to do a low fat diet for that week before you start your doctors diet. Then you can settle your anxiety about it a little.

I have told majority of people that I am getting my hiatal hernia repaired in order to reduce my severe acid reflux. This is true, but obviously the surgery is to get the sleeve first and foremost. To explain my rapid weight loss, I will explain to ppl how I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and going gluten free has made losing weight super easy. Which is true as I was diagnosed June 6th and I've lost 20lbs since going gluten free (of mostly inflammation). I have only told my mom, 2 sisters, husband and best friend. I am not telling my dad (because he's a jerk), brothers (because they can't keep a secret), or extended family (because I just don't want the opinions or their gossip about me).
I have thought looong and hard about this and it comes down to what I want and what I'm comfortable with. I don't want other people's opinions, fears, advice, or even approval. I also don't want to lie. I don't like to lie. So I have found my own guilt free way of playing the system. Hope you can find yours!

I was in the hospital for 3 days (12/30-1/1). Stuff I actually used in the hospital was chapstick (my plan did not allow me to take anything by mouth for about 24 hours so my lips were so dry), flip flops, a nightgown, fresh under garments, my phone charger, magazines, a hair brush, deodorant and a tooth brush. It felt good on the last day when I was being discharged to brush my hair, teeth and put clean clothing on after feeling pretty crappy for 2 days.

I wore lose fitting clothing to the hospital. And brought my loose pjs. Cause I knew they would have me walking the floor later the same day as surgery. I wore white cotton socks into surgery and had some easy to slide on slippers to walk in. Toothbrush/paste, brush hair tie, and deodorant, my coat machine, and cell charger. I slept most of the first day so didn't use anything but the pj bottoms and slippers to walk. Got up early the next day freshened up and walked some down the halls.

When I was going into surgery I packed a bag but it honestly didn't make no sense for me because I was in to much pain to get up like that but I will say bring your toothbrush of course deodorant and under garment and maybe slippers but everything else you are going to be in to much pain to worry about pajamas lol

Lip balm! Last time I used this much lip balm was when I was a smoker. All the Protein Drinks and FF dairy products dry my lips out.
I had significant GERD post-op ( I suffered from it pre-op) so I wasn't drinking much day of surgery. Lips were very dry, lip balm was very much needed. I didn't touch my phone til next day, though my family was updating everyone and keeping things simple for me.

I packed a bag to take to the hospital, and I'll be honest with you, the ONLY thing I used out of it was my phone charger. They wanted me to stay in the hospital gown, I kept their slippers on, and wore the clothes home that I wore in. Don't bother packing too much.

    Gas X is useless.
They give you socks with grip to wear. I still have mine, I love them.
Heating pad is a no, just don't do it. I doubt the hospital will let you bring one but they would have something for you if you really need it.

All you need are a lip balm, whatever you wash your face with, cell phone and charger. The hospital has everything you need. They are charging you a fortune, take advantage.

South Jersey here. I'm waiting to be discharged. Had my sleeve yesterday. I have zero pain. Not taking anything but tylenol. I've asked if the pain is waiting til i get home. They say if it was going to it would've happened. I did everything they told me. The liquids were ok. The broth from wonton Soup helped. Don't watch food commercials! Lol

Til the anesthesia wore off I just slept. I went home thinking I would be recovering and I felt like I never even had anything done. I was bored to death and drove to the grocery store to browse labels. I had stocked up on so many things thinking I under be unable to shop, and cannot begin to tell you all the shakes and powders that expired and went in the garbage. Honestly the first three days I did nothing special. I remember sitting in my closet cleaning out clothes and reorganizing. I felt so great. I wish you a great experience!

Chapstick, extension cord for cell phone charger, get prescriptions filled before you leave. I brought so much stuff and didn't use anything except the chapstick and charger.

@Blizair09, I totally respect your input. It may sound contradictory, but I also agree with what you say. The reason I decided on taking this course of action based on a long history of seeing reactions to the people around me regarding weight loss. My family is gossipy and they have tried to sabotage my efforts in the past. At my work, a lady who had WLS and was open about it was harassed. There were a few other coworkers who were considering it, and the news of them even considering the surgery reached me, even though I never asked. It's really unacceptable that such personal information is passed around a professional setting, whether it is WLS or any other procedure, and did not want that to happen to me.
I don't recommend people do what I do, but making such a radical change AND doing it publicly is not for everyone. If I ever come across someone IRL who is thinking about weight loss surgery, I think I'd be open to them about my experience. For now, sharing with people online who are seriously considering or have had the procedure is about the extent of my comfort level.
Hopefully, my stance on the matter will evolve and I'll be more comfortable stepping out of my comfort zone as I progress, but I'm just not there yet.
