  1. My insurance required that I stay overnight for my band. At first I was bummed but when I woke up from surgery I was EXTREMELY nauseated and was grateful that I was in there so they could give me the right meds. I can't imagine going home feeling as sick as I was. PLUS I had the dry heaves and was so scared that I did something to my band but my dr was there and said I was fine. I was released the next morning feeling great. The nausea subsided by 9pm that night and other than Iam sore and have left shoulder pain from the gas I feel good.
  2. I was banded July 2nd. It went well. Woke up with EXTREME nausea, throwing up etc... NOT pleasant. But it subsided and Iam doing pretty good. The liquid phase isn't so bad, not missing food like I thought I would. My dr only does liquid phase for 3 days so tomorrow I start pureed/mushy. I can't tolerate Jello so Iam not sure if I can tolerate anything tomorrow. I plan on starting out on my Protein drinks. I've already lost 7 1/2 lbs! Pain is minimal. My left shoulder is really hurting from the trapped gas. Other than that I feel great. Iam so happy with my decision. I will keep you informed.
  3. Glad I found this post. I was banded 2 days ago and today the pain in my left shoulder started and wow is it painful. Other than that I feel fine. Pain is minimal, liquid phase isn't too bad, Iam not missing food like I thought I would. Its the pain in my left shoulder. OUCH. When they called to check on me today I informed them of the pain and they said it would subside. Banded 7-2-08 7 1/2 lbs lost!!!!!!!
  4. Hi Angel, Iam also with the barix clinics in MI. Iam out of the Ypsilanti location. You will love this website!!! WELCOME. Your almost a yr out? I would love to hear your story. 3 days till surgery!
  5. I too have hypothyroidism and have been taking meds for 15 yrs. It doesn't matter if I was at my highest or lowest my medication needs didn't change with weight (Iam not banded yet but have been up and down with weight). I think its typical to go every 12 months to have a blood test and exam done to check your levels. 3 days till surgery!!!
  6. Change drs ASAP. You know your body better than anyone else. Lapband is NOT the easy way out and shame on her for not trying to encourage your decisions to better your life. Get to finding a new dr. You could try putting your foot down and say look either you work with me and help me or I will simply find a dr who will. It may change her mind??
  7. WOW, my nutritionist said to eat 6 times a day. 3 meals with a snack in between each meal. Of course it was all healthy snacking like a string cheese, piece of fruit, etc... She said even if your not hungry to eat a lil something to keep your nutrients up.
  8. I was told at my pre-op last week that my first fill would be 6 wks post op. Hope this helps. Keep us posted on your progress getting banded 07-02-2008
  9. I agree with myturn, prepare prepare prepare. I know if I have good meals here to prepare I do, when the cupboards are low and Iam missing things its easy to say lets go out. BUY everything you need and have it all around. Hang in there, you don't suck. Old habits DO die hard. Keep trying.
  10. tottie, Don't allow those thoughts!! Each time you wonder if you will do this say, YES IAM GOING TO DO THIS!!!!!!!!!! It will work. You can do it, we all can. I had all my pre-op yesterday and all is a go. They gave me a wonderful book with hundreds of recipes for the liquid phase etc... I also found out yesterday that my surgeon thinks 2 wks of liquid after surgery is not required. Its 4 days then onto pureed for 4 wks. I have to liquid 24 hrs before surgery. 6 days to go. Iam so excited. I can't wait to get this 85 lbs off of me. Just think tottie, you will be 120 lbs less when all is said and done. Set 10 lbs goals for yourself and they will go by quicker than you think.
  11. 2 appeals?? YOU GO GIRL. Good for you. Keep us posted.
  12. This is a good thought. I too will be on my monthly when I have my surgery in 9 days. AF is due in 7 days. I will let them know. My periods are painful so maybe the pain of my period will mask any discomfort from surgery, LOLOL
  13. I would. I like my skirts above knee but not too mini. I would do half thigh only. I can't take any credit for my legs but they are actually of normal size. It runs in the family to have nice shapely thin legs no matter how fat you get!!
  14. Me too, let me know when you need anything!!!!!! We are all here.
  15. Welcome averagegirl. I too felt not so alone when I stumbled across the site a couple yrs ago. There's lots of info here. Keep us posted on your journey. Annabella
  16. Welcome Delane. Congrats, you will be banded soon!!! Iam with you on the excitement. The few people that I have told ask if Iam getting nervous, Iam like NO way Iam so excited I can't stand myself. LOL Let us know how it goes next wk! Keep us posted. Annabella
  17. When it comes to attaching the ticker or anything else Iam not the gal for advice. LOL I have to learn that myself. I went to my seminar on March 24th. They discussed what you needed to have done. If you suffer from sleep apnea you had to have a sleep test done. I don't have that so I didn't have to do that. I had to fill out the paper work that was in my folder from the seminar. It was asking me what diets have I attempted over the yrs. I had NO idea of the exact dates so I made those up but all the diets I tried I did tell them about. I did have a psych evaluation done. My appt was April 10th and I was there for 3 hrs. I had to take a 600 question test and speak with the Dr. I got a phone call from the hospital where my surgery is being done saying my evaluation was there and everything was fine. In the meantime I had made appts with my pcp and nephrologist (I have hereditary kidney disease). My pcp (family dr) talked with me about the procedure and did her own pre-op testing and wrote a letter stating she thought I would benefit from the surgery. My pcp also had to send over records from 2003, 04, 05,06, and 2007 stating my weight. It was to prove I have been overweight for at least 5 yrs. My nephrologist also sent over a letter stating I would benefit from weight loss. I also was required to see a nutritionist. I made that appt and she too sent a letter on my behalf after talking with me. I had everything done by early May and after that it was simply waiting on the hospital to hear from my insurance company about my approval? They got the approval sometime last wk and that's when they called me to set up the appt. So all in all it was a lot of leg work and phone calls. I have read some people have to do a 6 month supervised diet, 1 and 2 wk liquid diets before surgery, etc... I guess it all depends on your insurance and their requirements. I say take YOUR time. I considered the surgery 2 yrs ago, only seriously the past 1 yr and in Jan decided it was what I wanted. I called in feb to make an appt for the seminar and got the March date. I stumbled on this website back when the surgery was only a consideration. I only joined a few months ago but I have been a loyal browser for a long time. I read the good, bad and the ugly. I remember a gal on here who said she was at the mall and got a soft pretzel stuck and spent an hr in the ladies room salvitating or sliming. I was like OMG, that COULD happen. Read it all and take your time. But be warned, when you decide its what you want, you can hardly wait! I have also been practicing on chewing food till you just can't chew it anymore. I also broke myself of diet pepsi. I was so addicted that without it I had migraines. I gave it up little by little and Iam now 2 months clean. LOL Now my surgery is 14 days away!!!
  18. I hear that music too. 16 more days. YAHOO Hey Choromom, I too had to pay 15% of the surgery cost or up to 2,000! Of course the cheapest is 2,000. We had room on our flexiable spending acct so I put it on there.
  19. Another July 2nd here. My pre-op testing is June 25th. Iam so excited!!! Did my seminar March 24th. I got the call last week for my date. YAHOO
  20. Your welcome on the advice. I can sorta relate to your mother and all her sides at dinner. My parents are from Ky and VERY southern as you can imagine. My parents fed us kids quite a spread for Breakfast and dinner AND it was all fried. You'll get your surgery scheduled soon! I went to my seminar on March 24 and July 2nd is my surgery date so it took some time but it went by fast. You said you went to the seminar, are you still considering the surgery or have you decided to do it?
  21. Hi Valerie, I finally got my call. I go on the 25th for pre-op testing and my surgery is July 2nd. I can hardly wait!! Gottaluvme, My husband and I talked about this very subject b/c we too enjoy eating out. We have friends that we meet at a local restaurant every single friday!!! When your past your 6 wks post-op and you are eating normal foods this is what we have planned. We will order 1 meal that we enjoy together and I will take my portion from his plate. He feels he will benefit from this as it will help him control his portions. Since I will have to chew chew chew my eating is slower and we will be eating "together". If anyone asks how come your not eating much or not ordering a full meal yourself just say "I had a sandwich not long ago and Iam still a bit full". You don't have to explain anything you don't want too. If the portions are small at a restaurant and or we are not in the mood for the same meal then I will just order a normal meal and leave the rest or take what I can't eat home for my kids or the dogs. I intend to make it work. YOU can too. I have decided its best to NOT tell any of my family members as they are too judgmental. If Iam there for a dinner I will fill my plate as usual and just eat what I can. No one really pays attn to what or how much your eating anyways. If I take normal portions, then no questions!! Now with all this said I just hope it works out. LOLOL Good luck
  22. Hi Valerie, welcome. I have been browsing myself for 2 yrs and only a member for a few months. I just got approved on monday through my insurance and Iam expecting my call tomorrow to schedule my surgery. I can't wait to get banded! Iam just about 5'7 and 220. My goal is 135 so that leaves me 85 lbs to lose. I have been heavy since my first pregnancy 22 yrs ago. I have 2 boys 21 and 12 next month. My husband has lost 60 of 80 lbs he needed to lose on his own. Iam anxious to catch up, lol Good luck with all your appts. Keep us posted.
  23. Well now you know why he got this way!! This is why he thinks its ok to damage property. This is why he is a menace to society! This is why he'll end up in jail and or prison! The apple NEVER falls from the tree. His mother has taught him how to be a big fat NOBODY. So damn sad. You need a license to fish, hunt and to do any upgrades to your own property but any ole trash can have kids. Makes me sick.
  24. They will set your mind at ease. We got them out of my husbands hunting magazines! I hook the cable into the camera and into the computer and I see everything it recorded. Mostly wind activated it this yr but a couple of times someone was walking in the middle of the night down the street and I swear looking at the pics is like they were taken in the daytime! AMAZING little gadget. It will also record when activated if you choose that setting. We have it set up to take pics every 3 seconds once activated till 2 minutes after no motion is detected.
  25. Its just fact. Neighbors are not what they used to be and kids now a days have little or no respect for their elders or anyone for that matter. I deal with disrespectful kids all the time and their parents. My son has lost many friends b/c their parents divorce. Its not one divorce at a time. Its happened twice that 2 of his friends' were going through divorces with their parents b/c they had affairs with someone 2 houses down or across the street. Its horrid. Thats 4 affairs alone on my block that I know of. My block is many blocks long so who knows??? My neighbor last summer whose kids curse worse than truckers decided to rake her dirt driveway within 5 min of us painting that side of the house!!! We saw this HUGE dirt cloud and ran over there to see what the hell was going on. She had lived there a yr and we met when she first moved in but there had been no more communication other than that and this is what happened. We said OMG, we just painted our house and its wet, could you please do that tomorrow? She said NO, she had a party to get ready for in 2 wks. I said ok, can you please not do this till tomorrow? She told my husband and I to go back to painting our house and she used a few other words. (no wonder why her kids curse like they do). I said look, you continue to do that and that dirt sticks to my house I will take pictures, I will take you to court, and you will pay to have it cleaned up and repainted. Needless to say she did quit. But as we were walking away she said she wasn't going to show us any consideration b/c our fence was leaning on her garage and she was going to have to fix her garage's siding. Thats when I informed her that my privacy fence in the 2 sections was leaning on her garage and had been for yrs. I then told her why. HER garage burned down, the owners had it rebuilt but never replace the chared wooden fence on that side. Over the yrs MY side of the fence which is FINE fell that way b/c HER side gave way. I said so fix YOUR damaged fence sections and MY fence and your problem will be solved. AND the fact there is poison ivy in between the fences is somehow my fault as well. I have been yelled at to take care of it? Like I planted it or something? For some odd reason that fence is my problem and only my problem, including her side? Go figure??? Since her hubby is gone and she does not work, she must be living on her child support. She's been married a few times with kids from each marriage. She is now dating the guy next door who is single b/c he left his wife for the neighbor 3 houses down. That fell apart soon after their divorces and now he is with the bimbo next door hence the reason her 2-3rd hubby left. My husband and I are taking the high road next month. We know she will not help with one penny to fix the fence so we are taking it down and replacing it ourselves. Its had 3 owners and no one bothers to fix it. So we will do it. Is it fair? No, but I do want my fence fixed. Its sad how people are today. Her kids were bothering my son on the bus (when he does take it) and when I called the school to complain about them I just said the first name and the secretary rattled off the last. They've been here now 2 yrs and the secretary said they are well known to the school as trouble makers. I said well you should meet their mother, you would understand. SADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. For the last 2 yrs (since the bimbo and her kids moved in) there has been a lot of vandalism with Christmas decorations!! The whole neighborhood got nailed 2 yrs in a row except next door and her boyfriend next door to her. Coincidence? I think not. We purchased infared motion detector camera's last yr at 300 bucks a pop! We set them up and everynight we waited to catch them. We even made sure the one was set up so it got our whole yard including her front door but no vandalism occured this yr. I will catch the little jerks.
