I lost 24# in 8 weeks and I am over the moon. I can't remember when the last time was that I lost 12 # a month?
The greatest part though is how good I feel. I haven't felt this healthy in probably 10 years. I have ditched 2 diabetes medications and I am looking forward to my morning runs. I never thought I would ever be saying these things.

It took me 4 months to lose 40 pounds, yet I'm not griping. Your weight loss journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Slow and steady wins the race, while fast and crass won't last.
The final result is more important than the speed at which we lose the weight. I've lost 100 pounds, attained my goal weight, and have managed to keep the weight off. That's what's important.
    Good luck to you.

You've lost 64 pounds in a little more than 2 months out. You're doing better than most. When is the last time you lost 64 pounds in 9 weeks via diet and exercise? I'm sure the answer is "Never."
As a comparison point, it took me a whopping 8 months to lose 64 pounds. You lost 64 pounds in less than 3 months, whereas it took me 8 months to accomplish that. Yet, I'm not complaining.
Realistic expectations are important. You didn't become morbidly obese overnight, so the weight is not going to melt off overnight, either. What matters is changing your habits to maintain the weight loss for life. There's no point in losing weight like a house on fire if you backslide into old habits and start regaining.
    Good luck to you.

I had my surgery 6/21/17. During my pre-op diet I had one Protein Shake in the morning with my Vitamins one Protein shake for lunch and a lean dinner. Also, keep your mind busy and keep productive, you should be fine. I'm now finishing my phase one and tomorrow going to a nutrition class and transitioning to phase two. I'm excited to finally have some kind of soft foods. Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck on your new journey, and New Life.

I hit my goal last month and I decided I still wanna lose 10-20 more lbs. I started at 250. I am now 140. Everyone says I'll look bad if I lose any more weight. I still see a fat girl in the mirror. Is this just my past insecurities? Idk. Luckily my skin has bounced into place without skin surgery. At 38 years old, I consider myself a lucky duck. My doctor also says I shouldn't lose anymore because I may not be happy with the result and response from my skin. Advice anyone? Anyway, here are some before and after.

    Chavon & Nifty,
Please, please, please see a doctor. What you are showing in the pictures is not inconsequential! I agree with Rita and am a nurse (ICU) also. You do not want to risk post-operative sepsis. Gut sepsis is the worst! You do not have the resources in your bodies to handle this without help. Please post back to let us know how you're doing. Please also feel free to PM me if you wish.

You are doing great. You can't judge your progress on where other are or were. I had the issue when I had my DS. But once I realized I was an individual and that my body reacts differently than most my weight was coming off faster and faster. I had my surgery October 31,2016 and I have lost 123 pounds. I haven't even hit my year yet. So, keep up the great work and you will be at your goal weight before you know it.

For the first time in 19 years (June 1998), I weighed in at less than 200 pounds this morning! This is a big deal for anyone losing weight, but it is an especially big deal for me as I started at almost 400 pounds (397 to be exact). I now have only 19 pounds to go until my goal of 180 pounds. I am overcome with emotion today, but I am so pleased and proud of my success that simply could not have happened without changing my relationship with food. And I can't help but think about the 99 pounds I lost during my six month pre-op diet program while I was jumping through the insurance company's hoops. Without having done that work, I would be celebrating getting under 300 pounds today, not getting under 200 pounds. That time does make a difference! At 7.5 months post-op, I've lost 198 pounds; I am wearing 33/34 pants and shorts, medium shirts, and my new suit size is a 40 regular. My labs are perfect, and my skin is in remarkable shape considering that I have lost half of myself.
    Life is amazing!
Onward and upward! I'm almost there.
    Happy weekend, everyone.

I had the sleeve surgery on September 28, 2016. My insurance required me to do a six month pre-op diet program. I began that in March 2016. I lost 99 pounds (from 397 to 298) during the six months leading up to surgery day following a Keto way of eating. I have continued that keto diet post-op (even during the food stages), and I have lost an additional 105 pounds, for a 204 pound loss total. I weigh 193 right now, and I am 13 pounds from my goal of 180 at approximately 9 months post-op.
I'll echo what some of the others have said -- the surgery (regardless of which one you choose) is only a tool and will only do so much for you. You have to have the grit, drive, and perseverance inside of you to win the mental game which is the really tough part post-op. There are ways to eat around any of the surgeries, and you have to get your mind in the right place to do what you need to do at all times. That is what brings success long-term. These forums are full of people who were mentally unprepared, never changed their relationship with food, and either never reached their goal or gained most of their weight back. Also, the journey is slow and arduous, full of stalls and plateaus, and requires patience and keeping the big picture in mind at all times.
Good luck as you make your decision! Any of the surgeries can be life changing if you put in the hard work necessary.

I'm 5'3". High weight April 2016 271.5. Today, 10 months post surgery (8/23/16) I am 173. I have lost 98 pounds in less than a year an people don't recognize me.
I'm 55 years old, work full time, have two teen daughters and a husband. I had the sleeve. I went in the hospital on Tuesday, was home Wednesday and back a work on Monday (I'm a desk jockey.) I was 246.9 at surgery. I have lost more than 70% of my excess weight - which by my practice's standards, I can shift to maintenance now, but I'd like to get close to 150 before I go to maintenance.
Now, I can walk for miles without pain in my knees. Last year around Memorial Day, I couldn't finish the campus tour at the University of Pittsburgh - it was too far, too many hills, too hot. Was at campus last week with my daughter for freshman orientation - parked the car on Wednesday and didn't move it until check out on Friday - walked 5 miles a day and then went to work out in the gym.
Yes, it is major surgery, but it is laparascopic - you will have three or four small incisions in your belly. As compared to the two C-sections I had for my daughters - this was a walk in the park.
Here's what before and after look like for me - the before photo was April 2016. The after photo was about 6 weeks ago - I'm down another few pounds since that photo. I'm your height. You decide.

The band is usually ineffective with PCOS because it doesn't induce the favorable metabolic and biochemical changes needed for weight loss. You'll still be hungry as a PCOS patient with a lap band.
With all of the health issues you have, I'd opt for a sleeve or bypass if I were you.
I was sleeved with longstanding hypothyroidism, insulin resistance and prediabetes. I lost 100+ pounds and have maintained my weight nicely. I was ravenously hungry prior to the sleeve, but now my appetite is under control.
Still, the struggle is lifelong. Once you've been obese, it's incurable. The body will fight long and hard to get back to its highest weight, so good food choices and exercise are imperative.
    Good luck to you!

I was banded 5 years ago and it never worked for me. Sure I would feel full for a few minutes, but then the food passed through the band and into my stomach and I was hungry all over again. I am not unique to band failure, there is a reason why many WLS surgeons no longer perform the surgery, it's because it has a horrible success rate.
I converted from a band to a sleeve 5 months ago, and the results have been far better than I ever had with the band. I've lost twice the amount of weight than I ever did with the band, and it has taken care of both diabetes and high blood pressure for me.
Of course there are other WLS options like rny bypass and duodenal switch, both of which have their own merits, but I obviously can't give you first hand knowledge of them.
Yes, WLS is a major surgery, but it is also in many cases a life-changing and in some a life-saving procedure. The final straw in my decision process for deciding to have WLS was the fact I never had trouble losing weight, but always gained it back. I realized I needed help making sure I could lose it and keep it off. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I had the sleeve five weeks ago. I chose it because it was simpler and the long term weight loss success was very similar to bypass surgery (although I believe bypass patients lose weight at a faster rate). I liked the idea of having no malabsorption and had zero reflux prior to surgery.
The pain of surgery was so minimal for me. Had no gas pains. Sometimes I forget I had surgery and I'm only five weeks out. I've lost 30lbs between preop diet and post surgery. I do suffer from low energy but it's returning slowly.

Are you a binge eater? A grazer? Emotional eater? Getting your head right before surgery is so important. I didn't and am facing it now. I was so focused and scared about surgery that that's all I focused on. I suggest NOT doing that. The real work is after surgery.
I think both bypass and sleeve are great options. The band seems to have a lot of issues ( slipping etc ) my surgeon has stopped doing them all together.
