Vsgneeded got a reaction from mzlil2cool in Bruises and rib pain
Hey everyone so 5 days out of surgery. I am becoming stronger each day but I find myself out of breath sometimes and I have a bruise on my left side ribcage that's swollen and blue. That's the only pain I have right now and my belly button (which is where they pulled out my tummy). Anyone else have bruises and trouble breathing? I will contact my doctor on Monday about it. I'm seeing him on Friday to remove the staples as well.

I wouldn't, it has fructose and sugar. Those might cause dumping and that's no fun.

Since you are a sleeve there is less chance of dumping than a RNY, but even without it, it is just plain not 'Bariatirc Friendly'.

Update - I'm going to be discharged tomorrow. They gave me some fresh juice (orange and mango mix) and it stayed down. They removed my IV and drip (is that the same thing I don't know) anyway, I walked a lot today and got so tired I slept for 2 hours. Did any of you had your incisions stapled? Did it hurt when they removed it on the 10th day?

I'm bearing my soul and body here. I couldn't be more proud of how my body has changed.
I've lost exactly 70 pounds since my surgery. Today marks exactly 24 weeks ( 6 months ) since my VSG surgery.
There's good, bad and ugly about VSG. A lot of days, I cried and wondered why in the hell I had this surgery, and what in the hell ive done to myself. Throughout this process, I haven't been able to REALLY see the changes. In my mind, I always see a 268 pound fat girl. Granted, I have seen the changes, seen the smaller clothes sizes, but still struggled with my self image in my head. But today that all changed....
I realized today as I was getting dressed that I had on the same exact underwear as the day I took my pre-surgery pictures. Then I realized that today marked 6 months since surgery. So, i decided to take pictures.
I haven't taken pictures in this process because of the absolute shame and disgust I feel towards myself. Shame and disgust are understatement words for how I feel about myself. Until today...
Today, I feel proud. For the first time, I can honestly say that I don't see "that fat girl" in the mirror anymore. It may not be pretty, it will never be perfect, but it's mine, and today I'm owning it, and FINALLY for once in my LIFE, I'm feeling proud.
It's NOT an easy decision to post these photos of me in my underwear. I feel absolutely vulnerable and exposed. Please be kind. It took all the courage I could muster to do this. The current pictures are not the best quality but the best I could take of myself at the moment.
All you new VSG-ers, stay the course and have faith. If you have body image issues as I do, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and you are not alone in the dark!
Much love from me to you all! ️️️

I am going through the same. My surgery was 6/2, and I had a rough time of it. I couldn't tolerate fluids, I was gagging and wretching. I was in the hospital for 3 nights. Today is the first day I am feeling decent. I still have some nausea, but am keeping liquids down now. I feel a little better each day, I hope you do too [emoji173]️

You are not alone! I just hit 3 weeks post op. My first two weeks were hell. I had a horrible time taking fluids and I constantly felt sick. Every day gets better! I came on this site often and it helps so much. Everyone is so kind and reassuring. It got me through some hard times, now I'm feeling good and down 17 lbs since surgery , good luck! 😊

So Just had surgery 6/2/17 and nothing is sitting well with my stomach everything causes gas and pain.... I just want to be able to get to the mashed potatoes phase... feel like I'm hungry but the SF Jello makes my stomach absolutely turn! And I can only consume about half a popsicle before my pain develops. When I have broth I end up with a gross aftertaste and burping it up constantly. Anyone have any suggestions or experiences with this?

October I sat and spoke to a woman who had gastric bypass, and I decided right then this is my next step to trying to get this weight off. By December 22 I had my surgery date set on 1-12-17. I found a great company called Belightweight who arranged all I need to have it done. Since it was out of my pocket I need affordable price With quality. I had RNY done for $8900. It was like being in a really nice hotel room. I was alone during my stay for surgery. Everything was there I needed and so friendly and nice staff to help with anything I needed. Surgery was two hours, and recovery was 45 min. Then they put me back into my room. First thing I said was can I get up! And I did, I felt like crap and a little nauseous but I pushed through and keep getting up for the first three hours after surgery. By the. Third hour my pain level was very low and it stayed that way the rest of my time there. I was ready to leave before 24 hours after surgery but stayed another night because my flight did not leave till then. Had a really great experience and am so glad I did not have to hump through hoops and wait long time. I am five days post opp and off pain med. I'm feeling good and am so hopeful for future. Right now I am taking day to day and breaking some old habits in this season so when I can eat food again it will be easer. My starting weight 294. I I'm going to wait to weigh in again until two weeks out. I hope you can find some encouragement to those who are have not had their surgery done yet. . My biggest advice is to get out of that bed asap after surgery. Even if it is only one or two steps. Best of luck to you all.

You're going to be okay. You will wake up and feel like you just closed your eyes... and then on top of that you will likely be so high on painkillers you won't know the ceiling from the floor, let alone understand the passage of time LOL! also anaesthesia affects everyone differently, so there's really no predicting what it will be like coming out of it.
no matter what happens, you will be in the hands of trained staff who have seen it allllll and will know just how to care for you in that vulnerable time.
The first day and a half is a total blur for me. I drifted in and out of consciousness.
Not sure what you mean by tube bag though! I had a drain in one of my incision sites (the worst), an IV for fluids and pain medication, but no catheter like some others have.
I think overthinking is very normal when it comes to a major surgery

Everything that happened to me while I was in the recovery room is fuzzy. All I remember is feeling nauseous and refusing to move to another bed so they could transport me to my room. The next thing I remember is being in my room with my dh standing next to the bed and the nurse putting meds in my iv. I slept off and on for the next 4-6 hours before getting up to pee and walk.

Oh goodness me, I don't know. I was out then woke up...everything is fuzzy about how long, etc. I believe, unless you really put your mind to it to know how long after you wake up, you wouldn't even bother to know anyway. You'd just be trying to get comfortable.

I mean you really don't know. You are asleep. you close your eyes in the operating room and wake up in the recovery room and it is like zero time passed. It had to be less than an hour, maybe more than 30 minutes.
I really didn't care, my lips my dry and that was my major concern when I woke up.

This time is really fuzzy - I was in the post-op recovery for about an hour, but then I slept for pretty much the entire next day. I woke up intermittently for 10 to 20 minutes at a time, but usually just to puke :/ That being said, it did appear the post-op pain management team gave me a little too much pain medication so that likely had a strong effect. By day two I was much closer to normal.
If you've ever had surgery before or been "knocked out" before (not at the dentist), the experience will likely be very similar. Every body reacts differently to anesthesia though, and a lot can differ between meds.
