Yes, Coco Wheats is a hot cereal.....like Cream of Wheat with Cocoa in it. It's 110 calories a serving, only I can only do half a serving thinned with about a third of a protien shake. Still comes out to about 100 calories. Good stuff!

lorri223 reacted to A_new_sara in DUMPING IS REAL!!
I'm really getting frustrated reading all these comments from these "expert" sleeve patients saying dumping syndrome doesn't happen unless you have a bypass. Don't assume that because it doesn't happen to EVERYONE, that it doesn't happen at all. It's VERY real, and happens to quite a few. I am one of them. It happened to me first in my puree stage, my Dr advised mashed potatoes and gravy.. I had about three teaspoons and the wave hit me. I had no idea what happened or why I was sick, or even ever heard of dumping. It happened again once with potato Soup, and once with fat free frozen yogurt. Please stop assuming that it only happens to bypass patients. It's insulting to those of us who do experience it to be told it doesn't exist.
    Per the mayo Clinic:
"Dumping syndrome is a condition that can develop after surgery to remove all or part of your stomach or after surgery to bypass your stomach to help you lose weight. Also called rapid gastric emptying, dumping syndrome occurs when food, especially sugar, moves from your stomach into your small bowel too quickly."

Thanks for these great replies. GwennyPenny, what was best for Constipation? I suffered it a bit after the band, not much shifted it (excuse the pun!) and I wondered what works for others - except trying to eat more fibre...

lorri223 reacted to MVK in Mexico: Dr. Ramos Kelly Botched Surgery - LaurasVSG Tube
I’ve seen many posts about Ramos Kelly saying he’s great, but last night I was watching post op YouTube videos and on Laura’s VSGtube channel, she posted a series of live videos (like minutes before I got to her page). She said Dr. Kelly screwed up her sleeve to mini bypass surgery, did it completely wrong. She was dying in her hotel room and no one would pick up their phone. Then Dr. Kelly’s wife proceeded to send her all these really nasty offensive messages, she even showed her phone on the camera to prove it. I felt so bad, she has me so scared to get the surgery ANYWHERE in fear this might happen to me. She ended up trekking it back to San Diego and checked into a bariatric center there, where they realized she was literally dying and they opened her up and fixed the botched surgery. She has been in the hospital for a week and a half now in San Diego recovering. When I woke up this morning, she deleted the videos. I don’t know what’s going on but I feel like this information needs to be on this board.

Hi! I’m 5’7 1/2” 226 BMI of 35. I’m one month pre op yet. Very interesting reading all of these forums! Some true inspiration stories here and weight loss time track envy! I’m praying to lose my hunger & extra pounds as quickly & steadily as possibly safe. I’ve got little support in my family And it’s more like everyone is waiting to see me fail & prove them all right since I tried the obera balloon last fall & failed MISERABLY Then proceeded to gain over 25 pounds in the last year. I’m a retired police officer of 20 years and have ALWAYS been strong & in shape & proud of my mother of 3 body. Not anymore. I don’t even recognize myself. Scheduled for surgery 12/7/17. I’m 46 years old. Any similar numbers out there for inspiration or December 2017 Sleevers? Help!

My surgeon said if I have any pain in my chest to contact them. Not saying it’s anything serious but I would definitely call to make sure.

My surgeons office has been very responsive when I have questions and the surgery coordinator helped outline who I needed to see in order to fulfill my insurance requirements. I made all the appointments however, I personally think it's part of making us demonstrate the commitment required to do this, but that's just in my head and has never been said. That said, they did put in a referral for the psych visit, and the psych office called me to schedule. The surgical coordinator also came to the nutrition seminar and spoke personally to each and every one of us to see where we are in the process. Unfortunately, she also let us know that the surgeons are backed up going into the holidays so unfortunately, even if my insurance approval comes through quickly, my surgery likely won't be until late January. Argh! more waiting! She's taking care of all the insurance work now though, and will call only if she has problems or to tell me my pre-op and surgery dates.

I’m definitely going to do my best to stick it threw! Thanks again

lorri223 reacted to DropWt4Life in Does anyone Know if instant soup is acceptable?
I am assuming that you are pre-op. Correct me if I am wrong. More information is really needed to answer your question effectively, but I will take a stab. Also, keep in mind, no advice here should take precedence over the advice of your doctor/NUT.
If you are on a basic pre-op diet, instant Soup should be fine. I would try to find a lower sodium one to keep your levels from skyrocketing. If you are on the liquid phase, you should strain out the little food bits as they aren't liquid of course. The broth is really what you should be aiming for.
Post op, you will have to adhere to a liquid diet for at least a few days to allow your new stomach to heal. The same guidelines really work here as well. For as long as you are on the liquids only diet, strain out the food bits. Once you are able to have full liquids, you can blend this up if you want.
If this instant soup has noodles, etc, you probably want to strain that out. Bullion works just as well, and there is nothing to strain out. I heated up some Water and dumped a chicken bullion in it. If I decided that I wanted a bit more flavor, I would add some chopped cilantro to it. I would strain out the cilantro, but just wanted the flavor.
Anyway, good luck on your journey!

I was on Clear Liquids in the hospital and day after. Then full liquids for two weeks after that. I had a difficult time with the liquids in the first week. I can't imagine eating tuna or eating at all. I am on my fourth week and I get full quickly. I can still feel the water get stuck if I drink too quickly. Same with foods. I'm just starting on fish, chicken and Beans w/cheese and I eat very slowly and chew alot so I don't get that feeling.

lorri223 reacted to Goggyween in Severe abdominal pain when inhaling and rapid heart rate
My VSG was 4-4-17. On or about 6-4, I developed a bad middle back pain. Around the 9th, I noticed severe cramping when I ate or drank. On 6-13, I had blood, x-rays, urine, ultrasound and CAT Scan. All normal, but CT Scan said, "adjacent to the greater curvature of the stomach suture line is inflammation within the mesenteric fat and a focal Fluid collection either within the gastric wall or adjacent to it measuring 14mm which could represent an ulcer creator or post operative leak. Since I am not nauseous and no fever present, they sent me home, liquids only with Cipro Antibiotics. For 3 days, I have had about 100 degree fever and pain is still there when inhaling. Scared I may have leak. Not sure what is ahead of me. Lost 45 lbs. And was feeling great until this.

I'm Angi. Hello. I'm 41. I am a mother of two teenagers 18 and 14, who are pretty independent of me. I think I may have empty nest syndrome already, even though the 14 y.o is still living at home. My husband is a driver and it takes him away from the house up to 6 days a week. I work. I'm a preschool teacher in an infant and toddler program. I am pretty active all day, but I love to eat. I love sweets and breads. food is always available at my job, all day long. And I think I have very little self control, which is how I ended up being the size I am. Heaviest weight was 284. I'm 5'5
I started my journey with weight loss surgery inquiry in October of 2016. My classes began in November 2016 and I finished them at the end of February 2017. I finally met with my surgeon and I have a date for surgery on August 3rd 2017. I'm going through Kaiser Permenente of S.Ca.
I am excited and nervous... I have lost a little bit of weight in preparation but it's been very slow going. I can't wait to get the ball rolling.

lorri223 reacted to youngs2twins in 3 days out - pain from gallbladder removal
My surgery was early Tuesday morning. They finally discharged me late Thursday afternoon after trying to decide if they should keep me another night. I begged to go home and they let me. The sleeve portion of the surgery went perfectly smooth. Apparently my gallbladder was about to "burst at the seams" and was one of the worst my doc had ever seen. He was perplexed as to why it had never given me problems. He took that sick, enlarged, sucker right on out of me. That is where I am having the excruciating pain now. But it's a little more tolerable each day. I'm working on getting all of my Water down and taking a lot of naps. Thank you for all of your support. Despite how I'm feeling physically, I have no regrets and would do it all over again. My doc and the nurses were amazing!
Anyone else have severe pain after the gall bladder removal? When did it go away?

I joined this site because I am wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me...I am pre-surgery, it is in a couple months. I am having a Roux En Y because my stomach doesn't work-it doesn't empty and I regurge everything I eat for about 5-6 hours after. Two surgeries (in an attempt to fix the problem) later and the symptoms are all back, so my surgeon has resorted to this procedure. I am starting to become anxious about the after surgery stuff-learning to eat again, how long are you on a liquid diet for? How to make sure I get the proper nutrients/vitamins. How long will the recovery be? They are doing an open procedure so how big will the incision be?
Any insight or suggestions, whether you're in the same situation as me or not, would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

Well I'm on my way for an EGD...the test alone is not scary but what my Dr might decide. This is revisional for me band to sleeve. I had the band 2007 lost about 85 pounds but went through some traumatic times in a short period of time. Was married to an abuser I had lost a good amount in a short time got pregnant with twins was punched hard multiple times in the stomach lost one baby to a miscarriage and then the other to etopic pregnancy...father diagnosed with cancer died 6 months later. Fractured my arm near my elbow but husband wouldn't let me go to the hospital till it already started healing....by February 2008 he went to jail and I got to rebuild my life...took a couple times of homelessness and unemployed to be where I am.....in a much better place...the band had me over restricted so much so that I had it removed in 2010. Unfortunately I gained all my weight back... my whole point is that the dr is hesitating if it has been eroded...I just need prayers...I need a do over...I've suffered relentlessly and Ive been researching and I'm ready and wanting to do this for the right reasons....please pray that he will see the possibilities of doing this surgery....thank you for listening....

lorri223 reacted to teacupnosaucer in Anyone get REALLY scared close to surgery?
I was very very scared... until suddenly I wasn't. It was so weird! I spent MONTHS beforehand agonizing, terrified I was going to leave my kids without their mother... then on the day before, when I thought I'd be my absolute worst, I was at total peace. I slept super well the night before and woke up that morning surer than anything. Which is very unusual because I have SO MUCH ANXIETY ABOUT EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME.
It is normal to be afraid. Talk to your team about your fears. On the advice of someone else in a bariatric forum, I asked my surgeon straight up if he'd had someone die of complications. He said no. Not that it was impossible, but that no, it hadn't happened. And then he knocked on wood LOL. My psychologist also listened to my "life after surgery" fears and was very reassuring that my fears were normal and to her, healthy because they showed I understood how much of a life altering decision I was making. Talking to people will help. Surrounding yourself with loved ones will help.
And if surgery day comes and you're a nervous wreck, you can always ask for an ativan
