Hollygolightlyvsg got a reaction from carolynjackson in April 2017 sleevers how's it going?
I was sleeved 4/21 - highest weight 224, SW 205 now 163 - I'm down from an 18/20 in jeans to a 10, down from 1x/2x in tops to a Medium... it's unreal most days.
I have collar bones and hip bones, who the heck knew?!
I do feel like I'm starting to see Hair loss (in shower) but I am also hypothyroid so I can't tell if it's that or this. I have crazy curly thick hair so it's not noticeable to anyone but me when I am shedding like a dog.

Hollygolightlyvsg reacted to Kerrie123 in Gastric sleeve and period
    Hi all,
I had my surgery 7 days ago and the past couple of days I have been getting period like symptoms (brown discharge in pants, I'm so sorry to be so graphic but couldn't explain it any other way).
My concern is that I have the contraceptive implant (my second one so in year 4) and have not had any period since having it put in. Now the last couple of days I have been getting what I said above?
I understand from other posts that it's normal for people to have periods come and go just after surgery but I am a tad confused as I haven't had a period in 4 years!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just read forums, you will get a better idea.
The people that are going to answer are either going to be people that never got to goal and are complaining or you are going to get the people that are super responders to surgery and got to goal super fast.
You won't get a realistic idea.
If you need to lost 110 pounds and you lose normally, it is going to take you are year. If you are super responder to surgery, it might take you 6 months.
You have zero information posted about yourself so it is impossible to guess.

I'm almost 3 weeks postop from VSG. My incisions seem to be healing just fine but occasionally I feel some pain under the one they used to remove the portion of stomach they cut. That incision (on my right) and it's friend on the left make it nearly impossible for me to sleep on my side still. What were some techniques that helped you sleep better?
So, I'm just not sleeping well. I don't know if this is causing me to be so low energy, if it's the extreme decrease in calories, healing from surgery or a combo of the three.
Also, I still feel like my abdomen is pretty bloated. Is that normal? It feels almost like it's distended, but at my 2 week postop the doc said it looked great.
I guess I'm just ready to feel like myself again.

I feel like seeing my new stomach live on screen during my swallow test was a really powerful experience. Those few seconds answered and explained so much about how sleeves work and gave me a greater understanding of my body. I wish it was the standard that everyone have one.
And mentally, seeing it on screen made it very clear I really had surgery, my anatomy was different, and it made me very protective of my stomach. I knew those stitches were real.

I'm 4 weeks post op today and I still can't sleep on my left side. I can lay slightly on my right side with a soft pillow wedged under my but I have not been sleeping well at all. I haven't slept through the night since surgery and it's really taking its toll.

Regarding the lack of energy, I felt it for about six weeks post-op. Mine was due to low level post-anesthesia fog that persisted for several weeks after the surgery.

I think you need more food, mostly Protein, and less fruit. For starters, eat breakfast! Have a Protein Shake, or a slice of cheese, or a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese, or SOMETHING with protein in it! For lunch, eat a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of protein first, THEN have the veggies. If you have to have fruit, stick to the blackberries and raspberries- strawberries if you must- but skip the grapes. Find what fruits are lowest on the glycemic index and stick to those (but honestly, for my metabolism, eating fruit is just like eating cake). Do the same thing for dinner- eat a good serving of protein FIRST. THEN fill yourself with cooked veg or salads. I really think you are filling yourself up with too many things other than protein, not getting enough calories, so you always feel hungry and unsatisfied- and your body won't lose weight because it thinks it's starving.
I'm not an expert, but I am doing pretty well with my sleeve. I just had my 6 month visit and my surgeon says I am where they like to see people at a year; I've lost about 80% of my extra weight. Here's what I eat every day; maybe it'll help you get some new ideas of what and how to eat. Breakfast: Either a slice of cheese, a protein shake, or 1/4 to 1/3 cup of cottage cheese, and coffee (with half-n-half). I take a cup of coffee in the car, too. For morning snack, I have a slice of cheese, or a low calorie greek yogurt (sometimes made into a smoothie with unsweetened almond milk- maybe 12 oz), or maybe 1T of Peanut Butter (not on anything, just the PB). Lunch is usually dinner leftovers, but I always make sure I have about 1/4 cup of protein, then the veggies. I usually cannot finish this, but I try to get the protein in first. If I don't have dinner leftovers, I'll make egg salad (I try to keep hard-boiled eggs in the fridge), or grab some of those pre-cooked chicken strips (try to keep on hand) or make tuna or chicken salad (I have cans of both proteins) and take about 1/4-1/3 cup of this. For a mid-afternoon snack, I'll make a mini-salad with some shredded cheese, or have about 20 peanuts, or maybe 3 green olives. Other Snacks might be about 4" of celery with either PB or cream cheese, or maybe a slice of deli meat. (We eat supper late, so I often need a snack around 4pm or I'll just graze and eat crap.) Supper is more of the same... protein first, then salad or veggies. I eat almost anything for protein... chicken, fish, pork, ground beef, meatballs (I can eat 2 or 3 one-ounce meatballs), shrimp, steak (I buy a very small "good" steak and cut it into pieces that are about 2"x3" and freeze them), lamb, eggs... just about anything. If I've made the protein in a casserole or sauce, I just scrape off as much of the sauce as possible. It tastes great, but I need to get that protein in first. SOMETIMES for supper, we go out for wings... I can eat about 3 pieces... or pizza, where I eat the toppings from one or 2 pieces. I don't usually snack at night, as dinner ends around 8 and I go to bed around 11, but if I do want an evening snack, I'll have sugar free popsicles, SF Jello, SF pudding (although not often), sometimes a cookie, about 2 tablespoons of ice cream, a little popcorn... something that is treat-like but I'm not eating enough of it, and not eating it regularly, so I don't really worry about it. I don't eat bread, rice, noodles, Pasta, potato, junk food (mostly... ), etc. Not too many grains, either, although Trader Joe's makes a terrific mixed grain hot Cereal that I like! I know I should eat more veggies, but I am usually just too full on the protein, and protein is most important.
Good luck- I think you can get yourself on track and feeling like you are really eating, not dieting (which is what your meal plans sound like to me!).

Your stomach isn't made out of latex, it's not going to react like a ballon. And especially if you have the sleeve it's a myth that it will stretch it. With the sleeve all, or at least most, of the stretchy part of the stomach is removed. And even if a little bit or the stretchy part is left carbonation is no where near strong enough to stretch it, nor would the small amount left be able to stretch enough to make a huge difference. You might go from being able to eat 4 ounces to eating 4.5 ounces instead. And any stretching that MIGHT occur would not come from carbonation, it would be from forcing in too much food at once time. The research supports this.
The myth of the stretching came from the bypass pouch which can stretch, but even then again carbonation isn't strong enough, especially once combined with stomach acid, to have any true effect. It's much more likely to stretch from eating too much though.
Surgeons are human, they are not infallible. They make mistakes, and many are prone to telling horror stories to scare their patients into doing what they want them to do.

So I am 14 days post op sleeve, 8 days post op gallbladder removal and still find myself asking why?
My preop diet was 2 weeks Protein Shakes, broth, Clear Liquids, sf Jello, cicles,( had big issues all my life with artificial sweetners and again since these are highly encouraged items for fillers) Was able to add some fresh fruit to shakes which I did most often as I wanted to chew something. No major issues or problems. Was sleeved on 04/18/2017. Unremarkable surgery, went home the next evening. First four days not too bad, had to force fluids more than I thought but did ok. Fifth day a different story! Right sided pain, low fever.... trip to ER, +test, +ultra sound, +CT = trip to surgery = Gallbladder removal. During surgery to remove gallbladder, Spill of gallbladder contents, external drain in place to remove infection, added day in hospital.
    Home again.
Today is pureed diet start! Suppose to be a good thing, and it was. Had grilled pork tenderloin, baked potato, broccoli and cheese! PUREED, 1/4 cup!
Walking daily - quarter to half a mile.
Not tolerating the bariatric version of Vitamins or Calcium so taking Flinstones.
Still only have five people who know I had surgery (as I'm not blessed with a supportive extended family) but proud of the ones I do have
The scale shows about 22 pounds lost from my preop appt with the surgeon 29 March until 30 April. Its something but I guess I am expecting or desiring the big numbers.
I haven't found a Protein item I can tolerate since preop. Any suggestions? I know that protein comes once you can eat again but I wonder if that's part of my sluggish feeling?
I am at 4 -5: 1/4 cup feedings, but never feel full. I am not tolerating SF items still or fake sweeteners get a bloated feeling, very nauseous and upset bowels so avoiding those items at all cost. Have tried the Whole Earth brand stevia/monk fruit blend if absolutely needing a sweetener.
My diet can be anything pureed or in pureed form... meat, eggs, casseroles, pastas, etc... says my guide book.
I just can't help that I keep wondering why did I do this? was is worth it? what will the end be like? Is there an end? I just read more blogs tonight about people who have met their goal weight but aren't happy? If anyone can tell me this is just a phase, once more weight is lost, once I can swallow pills again, or meet small milestones it changes please do! Right now I just feel like a person with seven new incision decorations who is hungry, grumpy, and not any better for the two week war I've been part of!

Thank you so much for your replies. I know that if I tell one family member, others will find out. I just think it's my business and no one else's. There's one friend that I might tell at some point, but not until I've had it done. I kind of just want this to be my own journey without anyone watching. Yeah they'll see I've lost weight, but I've lost it in the past ... Just haven't kept it off. I live in a different country to all my friends and family, and I'm having the surgery done in Mexico (I've researched the place thoroughly) so no one will wonder where I am and they'll not see the weight coming off, as I'll not see any of them for a few months.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't telling people. I just can't be arsed with being known as "the woman that had fat surgery" what people don't know won't hurt them

    BBQ arent even an issue.
    Grill shrimp, Salmon
You can eat burgers and hot dogs
Get a broccoli salad from the deli instead of potato salad.
    Just don't drink. Drink Water

I really isn't hard you just have to take a hard line on it. If people try and push stuff on you just ask them if they love you enough to let you be great and lose the weight you want.

OK I am 33 I just had the sleeve done on 4/18/17. This is probably really stupid but during the summer my family gets together and we do like a weekend getaway where we BBQ camp and just have a good time. It's great I look forward to it every year the kids get to play with all their cusions and everyone has a good time. This year I'm nervous.... just having the surgery knowing there is going to be all this food. Not to mention we usually have a couple drinks around the fire... I don't know how alcohol is going to affect me and if it will be to soon to even have a drink. And I know my family... they understand why I did this but they are always saying... "here try this." "You can't starve yourself". I know I'm not but man what do I do

I had my surgery on the 19th as well. I also had my gallbladder removed at the same time and let me tell how freaking painful that was. I am weaning off of the pain meds because they stop me from sleeping well and I have very crazy and vivid dreams. I've been on Tylenol for the last day and a half and doing well. If you feel like your pain is not controlled then call your surgeon. You cannot heal properly if you are always in pain. The gas pain will get better with time. Just keep walking, walking, walking. I walked around Wegmans today and when I got home all types of gas came out.

I had my first bow movement yesterday. It started with the urge that would go away and then turned into an actual movement. If you are not even feeling the urge you can take a stool softener or call your surgeon.

Best of luck to you. We are surgery twins [emoji5]
