LaLa Ladybug got a reaction from mrsto in Trying to decide if I should just remove my band, or convert
Your situation sounds just like mine. I was banded in 2010 & did fantastic. 3.5 years later, it slipped big-time. They did an unfill for a few weeks & then slowly started adding again. Soon the coughing began and then the aspirations at night. Then abdominal pain started. I quit going to the doctor because I knew they'd take it out. Finally had no choice. My insurance would not cover conversion. One thing has led to another. My insurance carrier changed. I've gone back to my original surgeon (who like yours will no longer do lap bands) & I'll be having bypass in July.

It is scary. That's one of the reasons I did the band instead. I've come to a point where it is scarier for me if I don't do it. Now I'm more excited than scared.

One thing to remember is that you can start the process and stop it at any time if you change your mind. The closer I get & the more I learn, the better I feel about the decision.

Hope it helps to know this. Whether or not you convert to RNY, please have the band removed if it continued to cause the problems you listed. Your body is sending you a message. I ignored mine for to long and have done permanent damage because of my own stubbornness.

I’m so excited to be having my surgery on November 15. That’s only nine days away! I’m terrified of the actual surgery and also scared I️ won’t succeed. It’s crazy.
This forum has been such a blessing for me, as I’ve met new people and have read many, many stories. I would love to also make a friend who lives close by!
Do any of you live in the Seattle Washington area?

Hi! I'm 5'6" and two weeks postop today. My highest weight was just over 300 & I was a size 26. Had lapband 12/2009 & got down to 170 & size 12. Leveled off at 185/size 14 & felt good. Lost lapband 10/2014. Worked out [emoji123] at the gym hard but weight still crept up to 276/bursting a size 22. Went back to surgeon for RNY. Current weight 233/size 20.

Thanks so much for posting! My band was removed 3.5 years ago. I'm scheduled for RNY on 7/13. The doctor told me progress could be slower since I had the band before and depending on what any possible scar tissue may look like in the stomach. I'm nervous, but I'm trusting my surgeon. Thanks again! Amy

LaLa Ladybug got a reaction from OmaJ in Conversion- Worth it?
    Hi Sarah,
    Totally worth it.

Banded 12/2009 at approx 275lbs. Highest weight was 302. Band for me down to 175 & I leveled off about 183lbs. 2012, I had my first band slip. 2013 was a major slip & then herniated my stomach 2014. I also now have Barrett's Esophagus. Band had to be removed on emergency basis 10/2014. They kept me overnight. Nurses offered more pain meds the. Ext day, but the pain was actually less at that point than it had been when it was still in.

RNY bypass 9 days ago. It was a a difficult decision, but I've had no regrets. Take care. Keep posting questions and reading others posts.
    ~Amy

What I find very interesting is you ask people why they have 60 grams of Protein for sleeve patients, and why it is the same in the first couple months after surgery as for the rest of their lives and the same for sleeve as bypass patients.
    They get mad at you.
Logically, (unless you in my subgroup) a sleeve patient shouldn't have a problem with protein unless it is right after surgery. Major surgery I can see needing extra. After 6 weeks, what is the point?
I would also question (and make people mad) because the rates of colon cancer are higher now. If you still eat animal protein, a lot of it, that's one of the main causes. Getting protein from Beans or a drink, is never considered good. Well all the protein doesn't give you Fiber, which your body also needs, and beans serve as a source of fiber.
Dr. Davis is well on point. People's minds and attitudes don't want to and refuse to believe it.

So sorry you have been through so much. I was not aware I even had a hiatal hernia till after surgery. Just figured all obese people felt the way I did. The reflux was to the extent that my doctor ordered a preop endoscopy. Found out I have Barrett's Esophagus. Good news is that my RNY bypass on 7/13 repaired the hernia and has now fixed the GERD so it will no longer speed up the progression of the Barrett's. Plus I would not have known about the Barrett's if it were not for my surgeon. There's been some very minor complications here and there, but I have no regrets at all. And the way my health was going due to my obesity? I had compendium risks either way. Hope this helps & keep posting questions!

My pre-op was 14 days. No workouts. Talked with my trainer about it & he decided against it given the minimal calorie intake. Good decision. I was so tired. Took all my energy to get thru the work day. Lost 12lbs.

My surgery will be 3 weeks ago on Thursday. All docs are different. Mine has us do 3 phases of 2 weeks each. I'm in phase 2 now, "very soft foods". But I still need the Protein Shakes, Greek yogurt, etc to make up the Protein I need. The food is such small portions that I'm not able to get enough protein out of it.

Food I can eat right now is 2 ounce servings of one of these: scrambled egg whites (Egg Beaters), cottage cheese, potatoes, Cream of Wheat, oatmeal, refried Beans, stuff like that.

    Hope this helps!

Hello everyone! I'm about three weeks post-op. The journey has been tough, yet enlightening so far. Just joined the site, and love to see all the feedback from everyone. I do have a question. I know not having an appetite is normal, but when does that fade? Any suggestions on what Protein to start with without doing the shakes?

I am feeling good. It's been 2 weeks today yand this is my first day back at work. Moving slowly but moving!!! I am still having a hard time meeting all my water/ shakes, Vitamins and meal schedule. Hopefully being back at work I can get a routine going. I am still very bruised from all the heparin shots they were giving me and especially the very big hematoma it caused so it still looks like someone took a bat to my entire abdomen but I have no pain!!! I gained 5 lbs when I had arrived home from the hospital but as of today I have lost 21lbs. Very very pleased!☘️😎💙

    For me.
Mexico is only scary in theory. But was a breeze.
The Drain in the shower makes you feel like you are in a horror movie. Blood everywhere.
barium swallow is awful but watching it on a monitor was worth it knowing surgery was successful.
very little pain. Off meds by day 3.
Flying sucks 4 days post op.
how normal you feel until you put something in your mouth and quickly get that "full" feeling.
liquid diet is the worst and graduating to soft food is the most rewarding feeling ever.
The psychological struggle of keeping pace subconsciously with others you eat with. So many stomach aches because I ate too quick. Take smaller bites and fork down for a min or two kids.
The head cravings suck and don't go away easily. need to break those habits.
How quick I'm dropping lbs is awesome. 3.5 weeks postop and down 52lbs.
Gaining confidence in the weight loss is a weird feeling. Especially when I haven't done much except eat less.
Those are some of the things I'm finding.

1/4 cup Cottage cheese with baby food fruit. Just be careful to watch the sugar content. No more than 7g per jar. You should only use 1/3 to 1/2 the jar for one meal.

I still have a long road ahead of me, but I could not have achieved this small victory without this surgery. Despite all the trials and tribulations, thos was so worth it!
