rnymorales reacted to Dashofpixiedust8 in Pooping question....sorry!
There are a couple things that could be going on.
Worst case scenario you have an impaction in your bowels not allowing the stool to get through. When you have an impaction liquid stool can still get through. Is your stomach swollen or painful at all? If it is I would go to the ER or call your on call surgeon.
My doctor had told me since we are eating less we will have less bowel movements but when I told them I was having them once a week they became concerned.
I ended up being dehydrated and a bit impacted. I ended up taking 3 dulcolax pills, drinking Smooth Move tea, and drinking a bottle of magnesium citrate. Even all of that didn't help. In the end I had to give myself a fleet enema. That was what finally got things moving.
Make sure you are drinking enough but I would call your surgeon because impaction is very serious.

Believe it or not, I bought a laxative tea and it worked like a charm. I didn't think it would, but I was in so much pain, I would have taken anything. My husband made me a huge mug of it and I sipped it before going to bed. By 6am, it took full effect.

Given the cost of surgery, it really shoud include a free brazilian wax.....
However, there was no mention of it for my WLS, nor when I had my hip replaced.

    I didn't shave, wasn't shaved, and didn't have a catheter.
I was given very detailed instructions about what to do to prep for surgery and this certainly wasn't mentioned.

That is definitely true of her. She "talked me down" from several possible procedures because she didn't think the results would be worth the money or the risk/recovery. A lot of surgeons would just want you go with more procedures or the more expensive options to try to get more money out of you.

I only told a few close family members about my surgery and very few friends. I have battled with obesity all of my life and having lost 126 pounds in five years has created quite the buzz in my social circle. It is difficult to explain to people about the surgery only because I don't feel my surgery is the only reason behind my weight loss. Of course it has helped but my weight loss did not begin until I committed to eating right and exercising. So unless a person indicates their desire to commit to a change like this then I don't offer this information. I don't regret my surgery but my journey was not an easy one and like with most of my struggles I just choose to keep it to myself unless I feel led to share it.

I've been obese for about half of my life and I have an extensive medical history. I had my surgery April 11th and I decided before the surgery not to tell anyone. Only my wife knows and she is aware of my wishes to keep my surgery secret. Right now I am trying to figure out how to respond when my family members inquire about my rapid weight loss? Has anybody kept surgery a secret and how is it working out so far?

Had surgery 8/23/16. My husband, two teen daughters and two friends knew. Didn't tell my mother. Didn't tell my sister. Buried my mom six weeks after surgery - saw the whole big Italian family. Everyone remarked about how good I looked. I said thank you and changed the topic. When someone asked what I was doing to lose weight, I said the following - all of which is true:
I'm following a high Protein diet
I'm monitoring my portions and logging everything I eat
I'm working with a personal trainer and working out multiple times a week.
My mother was the most amazingly judgmental person in the world. Wasn't going to tell her because she would have just said - oh, that's just like you to take the easy way out because you fail at everything you try. I don't have to justify myself to anyone.
(BTW - I've been practicing law for 25+ years, but I'm still the fat, ugly, stupid kid to her. )

It's not for practice, its to shrink your liver so the drs can do the surgery without your liver being in the way.

I understand what you are going through and I wish you safe and well. I wound up with pulmonary emboli (blood clots in my lungs).
This happened about 2 years ago and I'm since off the blood thinners. We never really knew what caused them, so my surgeon sent me to a hematologist as one of my many things to do to get medically cleared. After a bunch of lab work, the hematologist, stated that I will be on lovenox injections for 4 weeks post op.
I hope you are well soon. At least your doctors found this early and you are being treated properly.
Good luck and keep us posted!

So I finally finished all my pre op and got insurance approval and was about to pick a date for the end of April. Then I ended up in the hospital for blood clots in my arm, and learned I have an abnormal issue where my first rib is cutting off blood flow to my arm. I've had three procedures now to remove the blood clots and have one more surgery scheduled to remove my first rib. I'm happy that my condition can be fixed, but frustrated that my wls has to be put on hold for 3 to 4 months while I'm on blood thinners after I finally finished my pre op and mentally was prepared to have my wls this month. Hopefully I can stay on track and keep lossing on my own. I've lost a decent amount just by seeing the nutrionalist and exercising more. But I feel like I won't be able to keep up with these good habits I've developed because of my inability to work out and the long hospital stays I've had.

From what I have read it is just your body getting used to the new calorie intake/ lifestyle (I could be completely wrong), I know the feeling of the stall and it's heartbreaking but when it's over you're more motivated then ever

For goodness sakes. Please ignore the overly righteous rude replies you're getting. It's a thing whenever someone mentions food that doesn't fit a strict plan.

My my doctor took the view that this is for life, and life requires some flexibility. He then encouraged me to enjoy my birthday cake that would be coming up after surgery.
    .

The OCCASIONAL treat, given how small it will necessarily be, is probably ok for many of us. Only you know what other issues you have (diabetes, for example, makes some foods highly inadvisable, for instance).
    .

That said, I have had, since surgery, about 50 calories worth of a truly delicious locally made sorbet without incident, a 20 calorie bite of my wife's ice cream sandwich (apparently it tastes like cheese to me now. Ew), a small scoop of lactaid ice cream when I was having trouble getting and keeping anything at all down, and have tried live active culture frozen yogurt (which comes sugar free, low fat, etc) with no complaints from my stomach. Does it sound like a lot? It's not. But then, I have no insulin-related disorders and each portion has been very small and fit within my own plan.
    .

My calories have been on the low end of the range where they need to be, and my nutrition looks good so far. So everyone on my team is fine with that.
    .

My main point is that you and your team know your nutritional and medical situation way better than strangers on the internet. My secondary point is that yes, yes, I have tried other iced things since surgery with no adverse effects on my sleeve or weight loss. My tertiary point is that you need to find a way to eat WITH your sleeve that you can stick to and maintain a healthy weight with for the rest of your life.

to be perfectly honest, I drink a small amount with meals. I am kind of a rebel. I also drink 2 or 3 sparkling waters per day. I don't reccomend this but I am just being honest. I have had zero troubles and I am having amazing weight loss.

Thank you. Right now I am in a loose 10 so I'm probably a size 8 ( but I'm tired of buying clothes that end up too big so I'm not buying anything else for a while ). I haven't been this small in years, well over 16-17 years.im still 20 lbs out from goal and surgery was 4months ago.
My husband is insecure about my new look I feel. He refuses to say anything about my weight except asking me if I regret it... no I don't regret having surgery one bit. I'm not as curvaceous as I once was but I'm ok with that. I feel really good and I look good in my clothes. I'm still working on my body because all together ( pre op and post op) I have lost 72 lbs. I can see a lil loose skin on my inner thighs but not too bad so I'm still a work in progress.

I just had a consult w my surgeon today .. he says either is fine for me .. cos no gerd issues or diabetes .. but diabetes runs in big in my family history.. also my BMI is 40 which I was surprised he suggested bypass as an option as well ..i heard it can be more risky ..& sleeve less invasive ... which I know surgery is surgery they are all invasive .. I'm only rethinking my decision to bypass versus sleeve because the long-term success.. Can anyone share there thoughts on this ?
