    July Sleevers!!!

OMG! - IT'S GETTING REAL NOW - TOMORROW SURGERY JULY 12TH AT 6:30AM - ....but also my daughter (21) is flying out of country to the Netherlands tomorrow at 3pm for two weeks. My poor husband - LOL Prayers greatly appreciated - thanks so much. HuGz
  2. Well this is the last day for my pre-op diet. Tomorrow is the day before my surgery on the 12th and it’s a clear liquids all day with a 4pm Magnesium drink – yuck. Then Wednesday Morning at 6:30 am is it. I’m down 22 lbs so far from the pre-op diet. I battled with edema a lot due to the broth and sodium it contained, even with the low sodium kind. The last couple days I’ve cut out the broth and dropped 5 lbs after gaining some due to swelling. I expect to swell some again since tomorrow is a clear liquid only and broth will be my main thing besides jello and Popsicles. I will try and get on her before the surgery but if unable to, I will try once feeling up to it after. I'm not really worrying about the pain, the skin issues or my hair falling out. I just want to get through the surgery and get on with my new life. I'm feeling better just being on the pre-op diet. Don't feel as hungry anymore or think about food like I used to. I can totally see the benefits from doing the pre-op diet before the surgery. It helps us really get in the right mind set. The only thing I do worried about is the constipation. As I had mentioned I have chronic anal fissures. I’ve been babying them and it is doing better, but I take a daily fiber in everything. (about 6 tsp total daily) and this has helped a bunch. I’m hoping I can still add this to my liquids post- op. I have to call and find out from the nutritionists. This stuff below is the bomb. It goes in everything, no grit, no flavor. Oh and I wanted to follow up on the experiment with the chicken unjury soup mixed with unflavored gelatin. Nope – total fail But I did add to my cottage cheese and it was pretty good. Kinda strong, but good. Well hope all is well in WLS land and wish everyone many blessing. GrInS

    July Schedule

I only took 8 (business) days off too. I figured that with two weekend should be enough. I only was off 3 days after my hysterectomy and I'm figuring this may be similar? But I did fill out my short-term disability in case there was any complications. But my doctor told me most people feel pretty good after a week. But everybody's different and have different pain tolerances. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

I just might give up caffeine for good

I'm still preop but I gave up caffeine years ago. 2011 to be exact. Haven't had anything but decaf coffee and water. I never likey sweet drinks and have had my fill during this 3 week pre op diet. Everything sweet... Blah. But wanted to say I have felt great and never needed it. Id stay of the stuff if you can. As you lose weight natural energy will be all you need. I can't wait. Just this 20lbs I've lost on this preop diet has felt great. Can you imagine when more comes off. Who needs caffeine. July Schedule

I'm with you I too have been keeping real busy. I do a lot of hands on stuff like Painting, crochet, Canning. Helps time really go by. I Canned 20 lbs of potatoes, Veggie Soup and Zucchini Relish all day Wednesday. We didn't do no cookout or go anywhere. Didn't want to smell all that grilled stuff. We just watched movies and ate sugar free Popsicle. LOL The 12th will be here before we know it.

Who's Currently In Pre-Op Diet Phase?

I always state that every program and doc is different. I posted my personal pre-op diet on my blog on here. I'm on my last week of a three week liquid pre-op diet. It gets much easier as I go and it will for you. I noticed there is always a day or so that is just real rough. The fourth day for me was the worst. But after that it wasn't too bad. I don't even feel real hungry anymore. I have a schedule and stick with it. Every hour I have something. I start with two cups decaf coffee 6am- tomato juice (5oz can) and broth 7am - premier protein shake 8am - 1/4 cup cottage cheese with sugar free jello or seasoning of choice if I want savory 9am - I repeat this once more for 10, 11, 12 and 1 - then I go home from work and have another tomato juice while I make dinner for family. I have one Oikos triple zero yogurt (coffee is the bestest) and two sugar free Popsicle. Tada - days over and I start again... LOL - sometimes I have one more shake in the evening but really haven't much. I add protein unflavored powder (Unjury) to my jello and between that and the cottage cheese and yogurt protein - it makes up the protein from that last shake. Yes there are times I so want to eat, especially when cooking something I love for dinner, but every morning I feel better and better. My edema is practically gone and I'm down 20lbs which I really feel a difference when I walk because my back is in less pain. I keep real busy. I'm taking more time in my hobbies and stuff. I love painting and spend more time doing that than eating. I also walk. Especially at lunch break at work. I walk while everyone brings in their McDonald, Panda express and all that other processed poison. It helps get me away from all the smells. *wink* Blessing on your journey - You so got this - GrInS
  7. Well I'm at the end of my second week of my three week and two day pre-op diet. The Mon-Fri part of the week went very well, but the weekend was a different story. I didn't like totally blow it but I had to cook all weekend and did some canning stuff from my garden and the tasting (just little tastes to make sure it was right) was enough to make me not feels so well. I also got so busy I forgot to take my pee pill. (that is what I call that water pill I take for edema) - So I feel a bit puffy, but not too bad. I'm down a total of 12 lbs as of this morning but will know more in a couple days once all the fluid is down again. I feel so much better though and just that little bit of weight has made a huge difference on my ability to walk a bit more. For every pound I lose that is 4 lbs of pressure off my back. That's 48 lbs of pressure off my back already. It feels much better. Can you imagine when I get a 100 or more lbs down. Wowzers - I'm going to love it. Still have trouble just standing, but I can at least go forward longer. Only a week and two days away. Its so close. Feeling the nervousness creeping up. I don't even thinks its the surgery. Its such not much time to get a few things taken care of around the house and yard before. (hence the canning). I don't think I will be in the mood after. *wink*

    Avocado

Lol... cute reaction... yes eggs and avacados mixed is amazing. Well currently. I heard some tastes and tolerance of foods change after surgery? I hope I can still do this later on my soft food stage. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Protein shake

The fluid will be the most important. I'm scheduled July 12th and just went through a 3 hour pre-op class. Very helpful. My doc requires two weeks of clear liquids right after surgery then two weeks of milk based liquid then two weeks of pureed before the intro to solid foods. They told me staying hydrated is more important than anything the first two weeks. So definitely don't worry so much. You will get there. Blessing to you on your journey to the new you. 13. Just wanted to share some of the stuff I've been eating this week for my pre-op diet. Besides three Premier protein shakes I have other stuff. My life saver is the sugar free jello. I add 1 scoop of Unjury Unflavored protein powder to a cup of cold water, mix real good and then add that to my already dissolved jello that is 1 cup hot water. I like firm firm jello so I do 2 pkgs jello to 2 cups water total. One hot to dissolve the jello and one cold for the Protein powder. Mix both and pour into single serve containers. I add the protein powder to make sure I get enough protein in for the day because I have trouble doing three premiere protein shakes a day. I really get sick of all the sweet. blah I also use Unjury Chicken flavor soup protein mix too... this is so good. I'm going to experiment and had it in unflavored gelatin see how that works. LOL - soup cubes *wink* _ I'll let y'all know how that works out. LOL I do use broth cubes for convenience, but I don't want to much sodium so I also buy the organic premade broth from Walmart to break up between cubes. These are good and have less sodium. I find the beef broth flavor is my fav. Chicken is second fav. Veggie broth. Blah! There is Chicken with herbs bouillon cubes and these have a tad less sodium than the regular Chicken cubes. I am allowed cottage cheese on my pre-op diet so that helps too, cause I can sprinkle with seasonings for a savory flavor or sugar free jello/crystal light for a sweety thing. Kinda reminds me of ambrosia salad with cherry jello on it. I also am allowed Oikos triple zero yougurt once a day. Those are so yummy. Coffee flavor is the bestest! I'm also allowed up to 2 cups per day of V8/tomato juice. This is savory yummy too. Love (just a dash) of Worcestershire and hot sauce. For those of you just starting your pre-op. I'm already not feeling as hungry as I used too. I have to remind myself sometimes to make sure I get enough stuff in for the day. Its true once you get past the first four or five days it gets easier. This diet is to help us shrink our livers and drop a few pounds to help in lessen any complications during surgery. It also helps us detox and ready our body and minds for the changes its about to go through. But this is pretty much what I eat each day. Oh and I always have Popsicle - sugar free of course when ever. Love to hear any ideas or things y'all have tried. GrInS

    Pre-OP Liquid diet recipes

Yes this is so nice. I got the Hot and Sour and strained all the stuff out and it was soooo yummy. I just finished my first week of three week pre-op diet and doing good. I'm down 8lb. ***My life saver is the sugar free jello. I add 1 scoop of Unjury Unflavored protein powder to a cup of cold water, mix real good and then add that to my already dissolved jello that is 1 cup hot water. This diet is to help us shrink our livers and drop a few pounds to help in lessen any complications during surgery. It also helps us detox and ready our body and minds for the changes its about to go through. Everybody's pre-op diet is different. Just depends on your program and doctors requirements and your current health. I'm scheduled July 12th and so excited and nervous.

    July

I'm also scheduled for 07/12 - Nashville TN at Centennial with Dr. Dyer. Been doing my pre-op diet. One week down - two to go.
  16. Hello Hello Well I survive and didn't go off the wagon - well too bad. LOL - I did have a few of these amazing protein chips. I only had 4 chips through the whole weekend. Two chips twice. BBQ one time and Cheesy Sour Cream the other day. My daughter brought them home and showed me for my later in journey time, but I had to taste them. They were pretty good. The BBQ were the best and lowest in net carbs. Only 2g net carbs for the whole bag, the other was 3g. 21 g Protein for the whole bag. Just had to share those I did weight this morning and down a total of 8lbs for the first week. I do have edema so I fluctuate so much due to the water retention. I am hoping the edema will get better controlled as the weight comes off. I don't have it real real bad, but enough, my hands ache and my feet and ankles get a bit puffy. I am on a pee pill daily and this helps it too. I hope everyone had a great weekend, GrInS Sherry

    Why is today so tough?!?

I too am almost one week through, but mines a three week liquid, so two more weeks to go. I had a real bad day yesterday. Stomach cramped and burned all day. I really drank up the broth and had a Oikos triple zero yogurt which is thick and filling. The warmth from the broth and the thick yogurt really helped. Like Dale said above. Just get through today. Today has been pretty easy so far. My biggest challenge has been having to cook dinner and not get to eat. I planned menus my kids can make (their 14 - 21) , so i don't have to be in the kitchen much and plan crock pot meals I don't have to worry about either so much. this helps a lot. Out of site, out of mind... keep busy and the time will fly. Blessing on your journey.

    On The Road Again...

Will definitely have to plan more for trips. Used to trips revolved around food. It was all they were about. WLS will change that I'm sure. Instead of going to certain places just to try the food it will have to be about the activities. OH BOY - this will be so different. Scheduled for surgery July 12, 2017. Soooo excited. Thanks for sharing these wonderful tips. *thumbs up
  19. Well I am definitely new at this blogging stuff. ha ha ha - I guess I thought my intro was my first blog entry. I moved that to the entry and now added today's below. Well its day five and I’m surviving. I weighed in this morning and down 5 lbs. (311.8 to 306.4) I did have a rough day yesterday when a co-worker brought in Panda Express and made the whole office smell. At first it smelled amazing. I had to clock out, got up and went for a walk. About a half mile. It was hot and steamy so didn’t want to get to nasty for the rest of the day at work. But by the time I came back I felt better and the stuff actually stunk. The big challenge will be this weekend. Just need to keep busy and not think about it. I think I keep thinking that, “Heck I don’t have to OFFICIALLY start till the 28th, why am I doing this to myself.” LOL – but I know I really need this extra week jump and will do my darn-dest to keep it up. Because once next Wednesday gets here that’s my two weeks till surgery mark and its no turning back. I’ll get back on Monday and let you know how my weekend went.

    HELLO

HOWDY - Internet Pals, My name is Sherry and I have decided to blog my Journey with Weight Loss Surgery. I’m not the greatest at wording stuff, but will do my bestest *wink* Here is a recap up to now. My actual weight history started 21 years ago with the birth of my first daughter. I gained quite a bit and just never lost it. It crept up over the next 21 years. I did have two more children but they were both boys and well I was sick the whole time and actually lost weight with them. J I do have multiple issues including – Fibromyalgia – DJD – Diverticulosis – Borderline hypertension – Borderline Diabetic – Hypothyroidism and chronic anal fissures. I was constantly on the work out roller coaster. I’d work out and then the next day I would hurt so bad I’d miss a few days. So walking was about it for now for exercise. Till the weight gets down. Many of these will be much better if not cured by weight loss. I’m looking forward to less pain. Oh man am I. Any hoo - I was introduced to bariatric surgery about 5 years ago and was like, “No Way. I can do this on my own.” So I did try. Of course right after that, I was inspired, and I did lose 45 lbs. with Somersizing, but only to gain it all back. Plus some of course. I have tried so many diets. Atkins, Somersizing (which was my most successful), Juicing, Vegan, Vegetarian, and so many more. All leading to a small amount of loss just to gain it all back, with its little side package. Always a side package. (that would be lovely extra you always gain back with what you lost) - So I’ve slowly over the last 5 years hit my max weight of 315. I was shocked and just gave up. But then stuff started getting pretty bad. My low back pain was getting worse, plus now I had numbness going down my right leg. Couldn’t sleep due to hip, shoulder and back pain. Shoulders were horrible and my anal fissure went on high alert and has been for about 2 years now. I had to do something so I started going to docs to get myself taken care of. I had a new sleep study to make sure my pressure was good – it was upped from 10 to 16. Colonoscopy to make sure all was okay there. Just the anal fissure and internal hemorrhoids, no cancer or anything like that. Yay! Then I had my low back evaluated. Bad Bad. Denerative Disk disease in lower back…and pretty badly. This was the doc who referred me to the Weight Loss Center at Centennial here in Nashville. And so the journey began. I called the Center and a week later they called and got my information. They returned my call a few days later saying my insurance required a couple of things before approving. A pre-op Nutritional eval and a Psych eval. These were taken care of within the next two weeks. Then they sent my information off to the insurance. Within the week I was approved. Then we scheduled my first consult with the doc. Went well. Then I received my surgery date. Boom Bam Boom. So now I’m three weeks pre-op and today I started my liquid diet. I have started this three weeks pre-op due to I have a very fatty liver and edema. I’m required to do two weeks but added another week to make sure things are good and down. We want no problems – nope nope. I attached the liquid diet the doc gave me below, in case you wanted to check it out. The crossed out stuff is stuff I don’t like or wont use. Not big on flavored water. But who knows after this that might change. Heard taste and stuff change after WLS. Well I'm off for now. Thanks for coming along on my journey and I’ll post often to let you know how all is doing. Blessing to you all on your own journeys and would love to hear from you. GrInS Sherry

    pre-op diet help plz!

I actually just started mine today. I too started early to get a good start before my surgery on July 12th. I already know I have a fatty liver and wanted this for sure under control before surgery. I attached my plan the doctor gave me. I scratched stuff out because I don't like the stuff. But you can still see the stuff. Just remember everyone doctor plan is a bit different.
