Booandfrida reacted to up4challenge in What type of bra is recommended?
I was sleeved 6 month ago and have lost close to 55 pounds (I am not loosing too much weight like many others and I don't regret it).
Since 2 weeks, I've notice that my boobs have been sagging a lot compared to what they were before. I used to wear 42DD before the surgery and now 40DD is good. I picked up about 7 different types of underwire bras, but none of them seem to feel right. My doc suggested that I try compression sports bra and that should do the trick. But, when I tried sports bras, I do feel like my boob is hanging someone in the cup, I don't feel comfortable. I am not sure if I am putting across my point correctly.
Even after 6 months of operation, if I wear underwire bras for more than 2 hours I get pain near the bra band where the small incision was made during the surgery. And wearing non-wired bras only makes my boobs sag more. Can anyone who has gone though a similar experience offer some advise on what type of bra may help me?

Yay!! I tried egg whites today. My cholesterol was a lil high my last appt due to all the eggs I eat. This morning I added a lil hot sauce and lemon pepper to the egg whites and they were delicious!

Frou I feel you. From the surgery I became lactose intolerant and bread upsets stomach so that is a plus there. For Protein I do different kinds of nuts/seeds(careful to not overdue it on them because it's easy), different types of Beans (kidney and black are my fav), vegetables and ofcourse the organic vegan Protein Powder among other things. I go off and drink the WAS pre made Protein Drinks from Walmart at times along with the great value protein bars(0 carbs 0 cholesterol and 10 protein). If you wanna have more contact I'll give you my email or Facebook messanger name. There is alot more that I have to tell you....

I've been vegetarian for 47 years and even I am wondering what the hell I'm going to do for Protein. I was not a very good vegetarian (hence me having to get surgery) - I relied on bread, cheese, pastas, etc. I get my surgery done next week and I'm kind of winging it I guess. I will figure it out as I go. Nothing like being thrown in at the deep end

You should try Quorn products. Soy free and gluten free vegetarian sources of protein. They are mushroom based protein - but they don't taste like mushrooms I swear! The Turk'y roast is my favorite - beats a tofurkey any day. I even got my meat eating father to eat it more than once. The Turk'y roast has 100 calories, 13 gr protein and 0.5 gr sugar per serving. And the serving is larger than you would think.

Sadly the protein in Bone Broth is not the total protein you need. It's a great ADDITION to protein, since it's very high in collagen/gelatin. But if you depend on the protein from bone broth to fund your total daily protein, you will not be getting in solid, quality stuff. This is coming from my RD, not me. Sorry to bear bad news.

I get almost all my vegan/vegetarian recipes from budgetbytes.com very easy and cheaper too. There are a few of us in the Proteinaholic thread that share recipe links and pics if you'd like to check those out as well.

Have you seen Dr. Matthew Weiner's videos on YouTube? He promotes a "plants first" way of eating and has a book out. He's a bariatric surgeon. Here's one for the 1st Month After Surgery.

Following this thread I went to my NUT appointment yesterday and we talked about my desire to phase out meat. I was a strict vegetarian for 8 years and I dropped the weight but couldn't keep it off...I turned into a carbitarian eating french fries, breads, etc. NUT says WLS and veg lifestyle doesn't mix but that she's welcome to talk about it at my 6-month appointment in January. I feel that we can make it work if we really want to eliminate meat from our diet.

Im feeling better. Surgery was Sept. 18th. Im 6 days out today. Was a bit rough when i first woke & couple days with pressure on my breast bone then thot it must be from the air they inject. Glad it's over but i am so hungry. Last time i ate was Sept 3rd. Been liquids since. See Dr Tues then begins 2nd wk and mushy food. All in all wasnt that bad pain is minimal. Amazing how fast we heal. Good luck all.

I am only two weeks out but I thought I would share my hunger feelings. Sometimes I feel hungry, really hungry, like I could eat like I used to, hunger pains like I used to have too. But when I eat something, I can only eat about 1/8 cup and then I am full. My sleeve is no longer empty but the hunger remains. For me, I know it is head hunger, and I am working through it. It is getting better, but it is a long process. Good luck to you two.

I am having the same problem. The Protein Drink helped calm it down but its been a struggle...I pray this ends with the introduction of actual food this week (week 3 for me). Its only 1/2 an egg and 1/4 piece of toast, tuna....but it will feel good to chew. Hang in there.this is very temporary.

Hang in there! Pain meds combined with all the gas they fill us with creates all sorts of odd sensations. Head hunger sucks and came back really early for me too. You'll feel more satiated when you can have shakes. Hang in there! The first week is tough bc you're having all these new feelings, mentally and physically plus narcotics are involved! You got this!! Yes, just stick with it. I am almost 3 months out, sleeved on 3/31 and have just barely lost 30 lbs. since beong sleeved. I also can eat about a cup of food without any issue. I am definitely a slower loser, but good thing is I havent gained. So as long as I keep losing, I'm okay with a slow loss. Stick with your plan and you will see results. Everyone is different, so its very hard to compare your journey to another. Just wanted you to know you're not alone. Also, it seems as if Im in stalls every couple weeks

    Hey all!
I was sleeved on 8/14, 5 days out, and am definitely feeling true hunger. Like stomach growls and empty tummy feeling. Is this typical? Don't most sleevers not have true hunger pangs? Is there any hope that the "hunger" will go away as I continue to heal?
    Thx!

I haven't been weighing it out.
I did buy a measuring cup to measure out 1/2 a cup.
I am hoping once I start dense Protein I won't be so hungry all the time and I can keep my calories low.

I hate when surgeons put time constraints on weight loss. Everyone loses at a different pace for a variety of reasons and making patients feel bad about not losing "quickly enough" just caused undo stress. You've lost 45 pounds in 4 months! I think that's great! As long as the scale is still trending downward, what more can you ask?
I do think you should try different brands and combinations of Vitamins to try to get those in. It's very important not to develop any deficiencies.

Booandfrida reacted to Introversion in Almost 6 weeks and only 20lbs.
What was your starting weight? The less you weighed on surgery day, the more slowly you tend to lose the weight.
In addition, when is the last time you lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks using the old fashioned methods of diet and exercise? I'm guessing your answer is "Never." You're doing great.
For comparison, it took me 8 weeks (2 months) to lose a whopping 27.5 pounds. But the bigger picture is what I cling to, because although I was a slow loser, I lost 100+ pounds, got to my goal weight, and have been maintaining it.
The following groups of people tend to be faster losers: males, the super morbidly obese (BMI 50+), and people under 35 years old.
Typically, slower losers tend to be older females, 'lightweights' with less than 100 pounds to lose, menopausal women, racial/ethnic minorities, and people with metabolic issues like PCOS, hypothyroid, diabetes, and insulin resistance.
It's time to adjust your expectations. How fast you lose doesn't matter; rather, keeping the weight off for life should be your focus. What's the point of losing like a house on fire, then regaining the weight?
Regain is a common issue in the bariatric surgery community that no one thinks about during the weight loss phase, yet preventing weight regain is far more important than losing the weight.
    Good luck to you.

2 weeks out and the brain fog has finally lifted. Have been eating between 700-800 cals, which seems like a lot compared to what I see others eating. I am consistently hungry every 2-3 hours. Staying on plan.
Curious, was anyone given calorie parameters to stay within post op?
