This is a collage my daughter sent me to show me my progress.....it definitely keeps me motivated to continue this journey. The picture of me without the hat was taken Christmas 2015; the picture of me in the black hat was taken April 2017-about 8 weeks post surgery (same dress!).Thank you VSG!!!!

    Hello to everyone (pre/post, band/vsg/rny)!
Had my sleeve done in Philadelphia on March 2, 2017. It was done at Temple University Hospital by Dr. Michael Edwards. I've been fortunate enough not to have experienced any problems/complications. It is now 4 months & 4 days after my surgery; I'm happy to say I'm down 50 pounds! I began this journey back in June 2016 and weighed 220 pounds.....today I weigh 170.0 pounds!!!
YEA ME!!! (Still have more to lose, but YEA ME!!!!!)[emoji4] [emoji4]

lornasaurusleeve reacted to The in Weighing Food
I'm having surgery in two weeks, so just starting my diet and, whilst I can't claim to be an expert in WLS, I know more than a little about behavioural psychology.
Given that we are all, or have been, overweight enough to have undergone surgery it's pretty fair to assume that our relationship with food has been such that it has allowed us to gain and maintain significant weight. Everyone will have their own reasons for this, physiological or psychological, most likely a combination of the two.
If we think about our operations as a physical reset, where for a period we are forced to consume only limited amounts of food, then we also need corresponding mental resets. Weighing food has a functional, physical benefit, perhaps more importantly it can help us psychologically.
Weighing food can make us more mindful of our intake. Most of the time our brains work subconsciously, we're not 'thinking' we're making decisions based on habit, instinct and deep seated biases. When those aren't working for us we need to challenge them. Weighing food can help make deep links between our actions and their consequences, hopefully this will eventually start to challenge our habitual or comfort seeking impulses.
There are awful lot of people who 'know' a lot about nutrition or habit but are still overweight. The weighing, amongst other things, isn't about knowledge it's about training our minds to take and support decisions tat are better for us. That's a lot harder but it's how you change long term behaviour.

I am pleased to say that I have reached my goal, yaaayyy. My goal weight was 150 lbs but I weighed myself this morning and I am 149.8 lbs. This has been a hard journey mentally but for me( many of you know I have gone thru a divorce as well ). My starting weight was 242lbs, day of surgery 12/5/16 I was 219 lbs, and 8 months later I am 149.8 lbs. 7 lbs away from almost losing 100 lbs. I feel so good right now about myself. Not just because of how I look but how I feel inside. I'm starting to love me flaws and all. I am working on the mental side of things with prayer and supplication. God is a healer and I'm trusting him to keep me. I thank all of you on this site for your support , it has been epic on this journey. I so truly appreciate you. The encouragement I received from total strangers has far outweighed what I received from family and friends. Thank you again. Hope u like the pics.

Weighed in 278.4 day of surgery, 178.4 this morning. Sleeved 8/1 so just a bit over 10 months out.
Also, I'm officially out of the "overweight" BMI range. (my info says 25 but BMI calc says I'm justttt under it)

8/1 (surgery) - 1/18 (about halfway between then and now) - 6/11 (today!)
I'm 8.4lbs away from my initial goal but I think I might adjust to 150. Trying to get some kind of body fat testing done per suggestions in a thread I posted earlier this week so I can get a better idea of what's fat and what's skin.

    I'm 9 months post op tomorrow :-)

    Highest ever weight - 398
WLS program starting weight - 298.6
    Surgery day weight- 265.8
    Current weight - 175

From a size 26/28W pant at my highest and a 24W day of surgery to a size 10/12 pant currently and from a 4X top at my highest and a 3X day of surgery to a women's M/L & juniors XL top currently.

I'm off ALL my BP meds, off my anxiety meds and I'm no longer borderline diabetic. At 32 I was told I may not love to see 40 due to all my health issues and families history of heart/bp/cholesterol issues to being in better shape and health at 33 than I have ever been. Not too shabby for this mama of 4 :-) I am so beyond thankful and blessed to have this tool.

I'm sitting here at 4:45 am on post op day 2. I had a circumferential body lift, and liposuction to my thighs. Everything went really well. I came out of surgery feeling great. Minimal pain. The surgery took about 6.5 hours. I've stayed in the hospital 2 nights, and the nurses and staff here have been amazing! I'm at Rose hospital in Denver Colorado. I've been taking Valium every 6 hours for muscle pain, and 2 Percocet every 4-6 hours for pain, they help a lot. When resting, I feel pretty darn good. Getting up and moving is a bit awkward and painful, but is doesn't last long. It is MUCH easier to get up from a chair than a bed. I slept like a baby last night, didn't need any meds, but when I work up this morning I was really stiff, and had a hard time rolling out of the bed. I took a walk down the hall for some coffee, took some pain meds, and am now sitting in the chair and feel good.
Most of the pain or discomfort I have is in my upper abs. Feels like I did 800,000,00 sit ups, lol. There is one little spot on my incision that burns if I move just right, but goes away quickly when I correct. My back incision hasn't given me any trouble, and that was the one I was Moat worried about!
I got a very brief look at my tummy as they checked my incision yesterday, and almost started crying. My stomach is flat. No longer flabby with the fold in the middle leadin to my perpetual muffin top. My belly button is currently covered, but everything looks beautiful. I have three drains in that exit at my pubis area. They are quite the site, and make it a little awkward when using the restroom, but very manageable!
So far the Lipo to my thighs has been fine. Mostly when I sit on the toilet I feel like I've been kicked in the behind by a horse, lol!
Well, I think that's it for now. My dream is finally coming true, and I couldn't be more happy! I'll keep you all posted on my recovery and progress!
Oh yeah...Dr. Folk removed about 7 lbs of skin and fat, and 3 liters of fat from my thighs during lipo! . Amazing!!
    Stats:
    Highest Wright ever 285lb
    Weight at sleeve (July 28 2014) 262
    Preop plastics weight: 169
Hope you all have a GREAT day!

Hey Everyone. My name is Katie. I have only posted here one time before pre op and that was regarding insurance. Anyway, I was finally approved after 6 months of nutrition evaluations. I had my surgery on June 20th, 2017 and I'm down 39 pounds so far. My starting weight at the hospital was 295 and this morning I weighed 256. So far I've had no complications and I can pretty much eat anything. I say that loosely because there are times I've tried some questionable things when I've been on the road. No dumping. I eat very little of anything and am finding myself having to drink more Protein Shakes to get my Protein in. I've found myself not really caring for food and then having to force myself to eat because I know I have to. Anyway I am feeling so much better. I still can't see a difference in myself but everyone else says they see a difference.

I had several years of just massive restriction and Protein, protein, protein. Now I eat several small meals a day. Each meal includes greens and/or veggies, at least a small portion. At least two meals incorporate a good grain or carb to balance. Like a quinoa or bulgar salad at lunch, with fish and kale or spinach. It took a long time, tracking my nutrients and finding what works. But I do maintain easily (I'm actually trying to gain a few :/ it's crazy) and I feel utterly satisfied. You'll get here with time and focus. And for reference, my sleeve is probably not much bigger than it was around a year; I just learned to work around my limitations. Certain foods like grains and Pasta I could eat more of around 3-4 years out. That's the only change.
    Good luck!

lornasaurusleeve reacted to leebick in Surgeons who won't set a goal?
We never set a goal. I cranked along, lost weight steadily, for about 6 months. Since then, life has intervened, I've been pretty lazy about hitting the gym, had 3 vacations this summer, etc. I haven't gained any weight, but I haven't lost any more, either, and my 1-year visit is in a month. I need to get back on the wagon and move further into health!
One thing my surgeon did at my 9-month visit which threw me a bit: She asked me what I want to weigh! I'd never thought about that! I told her probably about 160-165. She said that sounds like a good goal for me, given my age, etc. She said I should shoot for 106-175, with 170 being the "warning" point. Well, I've not gotten down that far yet, but today is the first day of the rest of my life, and I'm working on it again.
I decided I'd not worry about weight goals and such, just stick to my eating plan and get back to the gym. I have spent my entire life focused on what I weigh, what the numbers on the scale say, and letting that dictate how I feel about myself. I didn't have this surgery so I could spend the rest of my life focused on these things, too. I feel good, I like how I look, and I am happy. If I never lose another ounce, I am SO glad I had this surgery! (but I know I can lose another 20 or so pounds!)

It is incredibly freeing to not feel the need to indulge in food. I have been so lucky to not expire either any cravings so far post op. I love being able to go to an ice cream shop with my family and just socialize with them while they have their treat. I know never feeling hungry will eventually fade, but I am encouraged be the healthy habits I have established to date.
