JenH76 got a reaction from jlig in 2.5 years post op update - 170 lbs lost, size 24/26 to 4/6
This is great to know. My surgeon told me to up my calories after a stall (I'm 6 weeks post op) and told me I could add some veggies and whole grains but I'm nervous about carbs. They always stall me. Broke my stall after increasing calories (750-1000 ( depending on activity and nothing but water. I'm down 30 lbs so far. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.

Comparing yourself to other people doesn't help. Everyone has different start weights and biology that is going to affect how they are losing.
It is better to look at how you are eating. Are you tracking all of your food? Are you weighing/measuring all your portions? What are your macros? Protein grams? Carb grams? That is the stuff that is going to determine how fast you are losing weight.
I lost 66 pounds in my first 4 months. I also started with a BMI of 60. If you start with a lower BMI you are going to lose less.
No one in the world is going to think 10 pounds a month is slow weight loss. People are grossly unrealistic about how fast you lose weight post op with WLS.

    Hi
I am at exactly 4 months. Since the two week pre-op, I have lost 55 pounds, but since the day of surgery, I have lost 43 pounds... so I am right there with you. I have had a few "stalls" along the way where I go a week or even two weeks in a row without losing anything.
Since I lowered my carb intake to under 40 grams per day and pushed my Protein to 90-100 grams per day, I am starting to drop weight again.
Like you, I need to increase the amount of exercise I get... I just can't right now.
I know it's going slow, but I am confident that I will continue to lose weight as long as I stick to the plan, which is what I intend to do.
Try not to compare your weight loss to other's.... you're doing great!

Thanks for the kind words, all!!
As as far as diet advice, during rapid weight loss I followed my surgeons plan to a T. I just kept losing and losing. I got to 10 lbs below goal (my goal weight was 163 lbs) and started adding back in some complex carbs to stop the weight loss. I've been in the 150-153 lbs range ever since.
FWIW, I still can't eat 4 oz in one sitting. I usually max out at around 6 bites of anything. I still eat high Protein, moderate fat, low carb - usually 50 or less carbs per day - and I count total carbs, not net carbs. During rapid weight loss I stuck to less than 15 per day.
I eat around 1,000 calories a day, sometimes a few extra if it's a long run or heavy workout day. I eat mostly protein and veggies, with an occasional serving of quinoa or a slice of sprouted whole grain toast with PB2 in the morning.
I cook every morning, pack lunches for myself and my husband, and also cook dinner every night. I've learned how to use herbs and spices to flavor my food and I really do enjoy cooking delicious and unique meals - we don't do boring, lol.
Oh, and I still only drink Water, one 6 oz cup of coffee every morning, and dry red or white wine.
All of this is my day to day norm, obviously - but if we have a date night, I'll eat a few bites of my husband's Pasta, or we'll share some cheesecake moderation is the spice of life!

    Hi guys!
I get on here every six months or so to update y'all I've never made a topic with progress pictures before, so I thought I would this time, as I've been maintaining below goal for almost a year now.
    SW: 323
    CW: 153
    Size 24/26 to a 4/6
    No skin removal
I ran my first half marathon in February and am running another in November, which is pretty cool! When not in race training mode, I run 3-6 miles, three days per week, and do HIIT style training (heavy weights and cardio) at the gym 2-3 other days per week. I tend to fluctuate between 150-153 lbs, depending on the time of month and just general day to day food/water intake.

It's not a race... try out a day or two if you want but don't feel bad if you can't make it. There's always next year, remember. My mil felt ashamed and horrible for years because she couldn't fast for health reasons, I understand the social pressure is huge but health first you know!

Throw the scale out! That is not how you should depend your feelings on. The way you feel the way that your clothes feel on you and how much freer you feel when you move your body. Maybe will yourself once a month or just when you go for your doctor visits. Seriously hide that thing!

So today I was reading about exercise and maintaining muscle and I ran across this article. Everyone's Dr. is different and follow different guidelines but several of you were talking about stalls in the first few weeks after surgery and when I read it, I immediately thought of sharing with you all.

I mean at 3 weeks, its really not even worth it going out. That isn't a representation of real post-op life though. I eat out all the time, and it is pretty easy to make choices on plan once you are like more than 3 months out. I was out of the house all day yesterday and ate out all day and still ended up under on calories

I go to starbucks once a week and get egg bites and a flat white. You could eat the egg white bites on mushies, get a bottle of Water for after you are done.
I don't eat at Chipotle, because they are criminals but, even on mushies though, you could have got a side of guac or slices of avocado.
pizza place is tough, but you could have just got some cheese to much on.
Restaurants are really accommodating if you ask. The trick is to know what to ask for.
Like I go to the sub place by my job, for lunch I get Italian beef, but they put it in a bowl for me. It isn't on the menu, I asked them to do it and they do it all the time.

I know for me it's 750 but should eventually increase to 1000 and I'm 6 weeks out. Best of luck. I also struggle to get calories in. I don't want my body to go into starvation mode. So I focus on my Protein

I'm 3 days post op. I have 3 little kids to care for. Hubby is back at work. Thankfully my cousin is here helping. She even brought her sweet little baby. I'd be lost without her. The pain and lack of energy sucks! I can't wait for healing and advancing my diet. Can't wait to be at my new normal.
