Sleeve1stFitNext got a reaction from logicwand in Opinions please!
There are pros and cons to everything in this world. I was originally afraid of the surgery after seeing the cons.
Then I did my own pros and con list. It was life without the surgery and lift without it. I found that life without the surgery had more cons than pros for me.
Honestly, this decision is not easy. This path is not easy. It will be both a physical and emotional obstacle that will test your willpower and desire to succeed.
After all the pain, anxiety, stress and so many other moments of feeling like I would fail, I would do it all over again.
I have regained my confidence, my self-esteem is at an all-time high, I can do more things and I do not hide from the world.
My only regret is that I did not do the surgery sooner.

    Fatigue or weakness
    Flushing or sweating
Shakiness, dizziness, fainting, or passing out
    Hypoglycemia
Loss of concentration or mental confusion
    Feelings of hunger
    Rapid heartbeat

Weight loss is personalized to you, your body, how well you follow the program and willingness not to fail. Someone in my support group had posted this.

Remember, no matter how slow you think you are losing. Progress is still progress.
Also, you can try dividing your weight loss. So you lost 20lbs a month average, 5lbs a week average. That is a great amount of loss.

Sleeve1stFitNext got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Is it possible to do this for the "wrong" reasons?
Yes, it is possible to get the surgery for the wrong reasons. However, doing this to get better, to change your health and to provide them with your presence for a longer life is a good reason.
I did this surgery for me. I did it because I wanted to live longer to and to maybe someday start my own family.
It does not matter the reason, as long as it is the reason that will make you successful in the long-run.

Try using the Proteins mixture that you would place in Water. Premier Protein makes water now. I had the same issue. I spent the first 2 weeks not getting enough protein. However, my surgeon advised me to go to Phase 2.

I would suggest speaking with your surgeon. My pre-op diet allowed for non-starchy vegetables. I ate cucumbers, spinach, and pickles with a little vinegar and black pepper. Just see if they would provide a snack schedule.

Honestly, it depends on your body. Since I have a slight form of keloid skin, it will take over a year for mines to fade. However, palmers cocoa butter or Mederma will work with helping the scar fade.

Do not be nervous. Remember to be positive during your evaluation. They will ask the following:
    1) Family support or personal support. (Even if you do not have support. Say that you do. They want to make sure that you will not fail because of enablers or stress from family at home.)
    2) What are your plans for long-term success?
    3) Why do you want the surgery? (Say things like, to get back my life and to be healthy)
There are other questions that they may ask:
    1) About your childhood
    2) Reason for gaining weight
It depends on the type of psychologist you get. Some can be really critical, some of supportive and then some are in the middle that your answers will determine if they support or become critical of you.
Just remember, the goal is to prove that you need this to better your life. No one can tell you what can make your life better but you.

Sleeve1stFitNext reacted to kakatlady612 in This process is stirring up various issues
Yeah as I move along toward my surgery time( and yeah it's going to happen if I have anything to say about it) old resentments are popping up. Last week I received notice from surgeon's office that they no longer wished to perform my surgery. Mentally I harken back to the family members who told me I deserved nothing good because I was flawed and unworthy. Its hard to go forward when somebody who supposedly loves you had said such a thing. I even had a cousin who said I didn't deserve to live. I'm mildly on the autism spectrum, a very literal person, I actually stayed away from that person for fear he would kill me, & gain some praise for ridding the world of an obnoxious bug like me. Yeah I know better now but I was probably 8 or 9 years old then. I have sympathy for others with ADHD and other mental difficulties, you see I'm really something denied during my childhood, a female Aspie. When I grew up only boys were allowed to be autistic, I remember overhearing a so-called professional tell my parents" Its a shame about your daughter, if she was male I'd say ADHD or autism but of course only boys get that" the 70+ year old me can rise up and say "what am I, chopped liver?" but the baby me went and sat in the corner, rocking back and forth to self- soothe. As I grew older I learned better and more respected ways to pass off anxiety, I rocked in chairs, walked a lot and tried to not show the world, a world I totally did not understand , how hurt i was. And I ate, at first until I got sick, but as my stomach stretched I could eat more, did it truly satisfy me?. Nope but I thought I could control it, years later I realize it just controlled me.
Now the stress of preparing is bringing it all to a head, I'm apprehensive to tell a psych this for fear I'll be rated as unstable, truly I feel the waiting is giving me unworthiness flashbacks, I want to move forward, felt everything was falling in place;, I had done the right things at the right time, -for the right reasons in the right place,- I was nearly at the goal to have it obscured by a group I had put my faith in. I will rise above this, I know I can but I weary from the struggle. I go early in March to petition another bariatric program to accept me and perform the surgery my body and emotions need. Will I be deemed worthy or was my paternal cousin right? Am I flawed, undeserving and unworthy? Only time and the will of a new surgeon will give me an answer. In the meantime I live in a painful body, every joint is sore from carrying this excess weight but I cannot and will not give up and die as this body wears out more. This can be the dawn of a new and better day. Please Baribrothers and sisters support me in this!

I have to be careful and measure it out. It gets the sweet craving out of the way. The down side for me : It's easy to eat the pint and make it a meal. Ice cream is my weakness/kryptonite

I am a tad confused by this entire thread.
This is a forum and negative vibes will come your way. However, letting the negative vibes get to you only hurts you. I understand that people come at you the wrong way or give their two sense when you do not want it but if you post, everyone can see it and has a right to respond. Surgery or not. Remember that if you keep above the negativity, you are the bigger person.
Also, your thread came up while I was helping another member. I thought the subject sounded interesting so I read the whole things. The perks of loving to read.

Sleeve1stFitNext got a reaction from Rocky80 in Not losing weight after bypass! Help!
Oh dear. Here is a sweet tip from us who have gone through this, RELAX. It's a stall. It happens multiple times during your first 18 months of expected weight loss.
Some people get it the first month, others get it later on. The key is to relax with the scale. If you stress about it, it keeps your cortisol levels high which then causes you to regain (mostly water) weight.
This is also your bodies way of letting you know that it is time to start exercising. Not heavy exertion but walking around more and trying to get that heart rate to about 115 steady - fat burning level.
Now is the time to start taking "before" pictures if you have not done already. Then compare to the photos before and after/now. You will be losing inches at this time, so pay attention to the following:
    1) Do your clothes fit differently?
    2) Are you feeling lighter on your feet or knees?
    3) Are you drinking enough Water?
    4) Are you meeting your bodies Protein needs?
    5) Are you really doing what you are supposed to be doing?
These five questions are what you should keep in mind when going through a stall. It could be that you need to tweak somethings.
