March 24th Bandsters - Easter?
Sugar - I made it thru it and I totally agree - it is comparable to a hysterectomy (had a complete one in 2003) but to me, not as much pain. Just a lot of soreness and am dealing with gas issues right now. I got home from the hospital yesterday around 1:00 p.m. Surgery was fine. Doc said that everything went great. We too live in a rural area and no liquid pain killer. I too crushed mine last night and added to runny oatmeal. Glad you are doing well also!!! Hang in there!!

Today is the Day - March 24th!!
Good morning!! Today a lot of us get banded!!! The first day of new beginnings (although - the diet for two weeks and yesterday's Clear liquids - sure felt like new beginnings!!!) Best wishes to everyone that is a March 24th bander. I made it thru the clear liquid day yesterday very easy - a lot easier than I thought. I will be leaving for the hospital in one hour so I just thought I would pop in and wish everyone the best today. Take care and remember to report in after you get back home. Karen

March 24th Bandsters - Easter?
What ya doing for Easter?? Me - starting at midnight on Saturday - I am on Clear liquids until midnight Sunday - then be at the hospital by 7:00 a.m. on Monday, March 24th? It kinda makes me sad - no Easter dinner this year....no hiding eggs - first time in 20 years that I havent made Easter dinner for all of our family. Hubby said it might be easier just to not do anything and I can just rest all day. So - this is what I am going do on Easter Sunday 1. sleep late - I hope the Good Lord understands 2. Walk in the morning 3. Lay in my comfy bed all day and watch movies 4. Walk in the late afternoon What are your Easter plans??

Did you cheat on pre-op liquid diet
Angelsvoice - me too on the mashed potatoes!!! I am on Day 8 of my Pre-Op Diet and I dream of the day just to get a bite of my MIL's wonderful mashed potatoes!! Grits/Cream of Wheat are not on my pre-op list. One week from today I will be banded - I am ready to get it over with!!

lower BMI -need advice LapBand vs. Gastric Bypass
I selected the lapband because: 1) My husband had gastric bypass in August and has lost 95 lbs, BUT it took him a long time to recover - probably a good six weeks. There were times he was sooo sick. The idea of actually having your parts cut and rerouted just werent for me. 2) The cost of the gastric bypass for my hubby was around $35,000 which was covered by insurance. The cost of my lapband is around $14,000 which is NOT covered by insurance. 3) I do not have 6 - 8 weeks that I can miss for work. 1 - 2 weeks is about all I can take off due to workload. BTW, your BMI is not all that high which would be another reason I would select the lapband. Hope this helps!

Hi from Texas
From what I have read here, doctors are very different in the Pre-Op diet. Seems like most doctors do require the Clear Liquids the day before. Did yours mention anything about a liquid diet one day prior? Best of luck to you on the 18th. Please let me know how you are doing!!

I can't believe it!!!!!! March 25th is the date
Congrats on your banding date! Mine is March 24th! I am on day 6th of the Pre-op diet - high Protein. It is hard and I confess, I cheated today with two oatmeal Cookies. I beat myself up today but am back on track.

4 days until banded!
That is great - on your banding and hubby coming home!! Congrats!!

Questions about the liqiud diet
Pinkrose - we have the same surgery date! I have been drinking the Slim Fast low carb - Choc & Strawberries & Cream are the two that I like. This is Breakfast and lunch with a No Sugar Added Dreyers popsicle for a snack. I also like them very cold - room temp doesnt taste very good to me.

Hi from Texas

Hi from Texas
Hello - I am new here. My surgery date is 3/24/08. I am on my 5th day of pre-op diet. I have done really well except I need to drink more Water (only taking in about 48 - 50 oz per day). I do have the urge to cheat - cravings for Mexican food today - it's Friday and we use to go out to eat at our favorite Mexican Restaurant on Fridays - but I will make it without cheating!!! I know I will learn so much for all of you!! Have a great day, Karen
