salasmall reacted to slimmingsteff in Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
Hello guys. Keto has never caught my attention. I've been able to lose weight eating healthy carbs. Anytime I did do carb cycling, where I would have to eat low carb, I just felt terrible. Now please don't take this as "oh wow she's unmotivated to change her lifestyle". Doing Keto literally contradicts all the knowledge I've gained on macronutrients all my life. (I also talk about this in reference of way after the 6 weeks. Maybe 6 months from post-op)

salasmall reacted to Berry78 in not losing weight day 18 post op
At this point, you're just walking. My surgeon recommends walking for 4 weeks, add bike and elliptical until 6 weeks, then released to do what I wanted after 6 weeks.
Your own team will give you guidelines based on your own medical history. I know 6 weeks seems like a long time, but it will fly by, and you'll be happy to not injure yourself

my main concern now is eating healthy when i can eat again minus sweeteners and carbs. How long after surgery can you exercise?

salasmall reacted to Dairymary in Eating no problem 2 months post op
If you are just five weeks out and you are already off track, it doesn't sound like you ever had focus in the first place. Are you seeing a therapist to help you with your food addictions? If not, you really need to. These first 6-12 months are the easiest ones you will ever have. Bad habits will only get worse if you don't get help.
Believe me, I could not have lost all my weight and I definitely couldn't have kept it off for 5+ years if it weren't for the psychological changes I made. The hour or so I spent on the operating table would have been a complete waste if it weren't for the hundreds of hours spent with my therapist and in group support meetings. Getting to the truth behind my dysfunctional eating habits and learning new ways to cope with life's stresses has been far more beneficial than WLS itself. Our smaller stomachs are a just a small part of successful weight loss. The mental part is far more important .....and far tougher to fix.
Good luck!

salasmall reacted to JJ in PROTEIN SHAKE ADVICE-HIGH QUALITY, INEXPENSIVE , NOT A PROTEIN BLEND
I use the vanilla GNC pure isolate. Mix it with Water and it taste good to me. It is about $26 per container. Not sure if that is more than others but it is pure whey isolate and i like the flavor. Has 25g protein and about 110 calories per 8 Oz drink

Unjury is good. Kinda expensive but I really enjoy Whey from Wal-Mart and Kroger. Cost is good too. I like the banana flavor. I ad 8 oz almond milk, and 8oz Water to one scoop. Sometimes I'll put 1/2 frozen banana. REALLY good.

Unflavored Protein powders like from Isopure and Unjury are going to be the "purest" form of protein supplements you can find. Anything flavored will obviously have other stuff.....there's no way around the sweeteners and flavor ingredients. Syntrax Nectar naturals arent too bad...."whey protein isolate, erythritol, natural flavors, silicone dioxide, soy lecithin, salt, stevia and Monk Fruit concentrate".
Where do you live? I live in Wisconsin and many of the local cheese factories are now offering the whey product they produce from the cheese making process. I think Mullins Cheese even sells it online. Doesn't get any better than straight from the source......
