Short girl here too! 5'2" 230 lbs with fat belly that I hate! I love all the above comments! I love that colorful language! I'm like that too! Most people I tell are happy for me but some have said "oh no you don't need to do that just eat right and exercise" Really? You don't think I have tried that more times than I could count? Duh! That's why I want to get the surgery so I can diet and exercise more easily and without pain to lose the weight and have it stay the f*** off of me! Hugs to all y'all!

I researched the balloon a little today. I kinda like the idea of it but it is such a new concept that insurance doesn't cover it yet. I do think they offer some financing options like care credit and the like. The balloon is inserted and inflated during an endoscope and later removed the same way. The balloon takes up about 1/3 of the stomach but there is a dual one available as well. There is a liquid diet a few days before and after. The procedure only last about 20 minutes under local anesthesia. The first few days after procedure sound very rough such as gas, bloating and many people vomit for a couple of days but then it seems to get a lot better. It is suggested to take a week or two off work. It is removed 6 months later. During that 6 months while you are losing weight you are going to classes learning about nutrition and exercise.

Going to give it some thought and pray about all of it.

Yes! On this site I am the minority. But I deeply regret my decision to do this surgery.
Eating is a FULL TIME job. You eat so slowly and have to time when you drink! Its so unnatural. You still have to eat healthy and excersise!
You have to drink a lot of Water, getting dehydrated is so easy. We simply have no stomach to hold Water.
Acid reflux is a constant reality. This is painful and there's a high probability most ppl will have an issue with it. If not immediately but possibly at 3 or 6 yrs post op. I didn't do this surgery to be on medication for life!
This the only irreversible surgery. Even the gastric bypass can be reversed if your life is at risk.
I would say try another hundred diets before tearing away a vital organ. We don't know how our aging process will be impacted...what if we need a heavy use of NSAIDs or face stomach cancer?? That's just me and something I wish I did. It's all too late. I can see how irational to think I will be healthy by taking away 80% of my vital organ.
Furthermore! Isn't it so scary that regain happens to most ppl! I lost most of my stomach and I can still regain? That can only mean that our stomachs are not the problem! Think about other reversible procedures where you have restriction and can still learn the same healthy food habits we should learn anyway.

    All the best

I dont want to sound like I am putting you down but I have to ask because Im close to having surgery and despite some of the negative reviews out there I wonder. Did you not know how hard the journey would be? Were you not informed that you stomach can stretch back? How long did you research? I am asking because I researched since May of last year and without having the surgery yet I think I heard alot of the pros and cons and just wonder if I will feel the same way as you afterwards? Despite you regretfulness, are you losing weight, feeling better anything positive?

I was 5'0 and 214 day of surgery in July. Now I'm 145, which is still overweight for such a petite height. No one would describe me as skinny and if I'd never gotten so fat and never had surgery I would still be trying to lose 20+ lbs.
So I'm still working on losing, but I feel fucking great!
Every pound makes a difference at our height.

You know, having just learned about the surgery, myself...

There is another reason friends say, "but you're not that big". Partly because they are being nice, but partly because they honestly believe the surgery is designed only for the 500#+, bedridden, crowd. After all, you are up, walking around, living your life. It would never occur to them that that surgery would even apply!

We had a friend 15 years ago who was over 400lbs, and surgery never even crossed our minds for him!

I am 5'1 274lbs...I am not telling anyone but my hustand who supports me because he sees my daily struggles and my 2 nieces who had the surgery. I struggle to walk , to get up in our new truck, just to go to the store and load groceries, to enjoy a leisure walk. I hear the same from my sisters, "you are not that fat, you don't need surgery!!!" YES I AM THAT FAT!
some people just don't understand because they are not in the body you live in and struggle in every effing day!!
I am doing this for me and screw the naysayers!!!
Excuse me getting a little wild with the words but hey I don't know about ya'll but inside I scream all the time" I want out of this prison that is called my my body!!!!!"
No one, no one understands unless they have been there. That is why I find comfort and support from reading the stories and seeing the results of everyone here. I also look at countless YouTube videos and say to myself. That is going to be me. I am going to have that same face of joy and excitement as I see on everyone else.
You stay strong, push on, and go for that brass ring!!!!my surgery will not be until August and I cannot wait!!!!

Seraya, it is weird how the drs and insurance companies all do things so differently from one another. The only thing I have done so far is the seminar, consult w/the surgeon and my first visit with the nutritionist. I only see her once a month for six months then do all the others you mentioned. I didn't have to schedule all of those right away.

My family and a few friends know I want to do this. Everyone is supportive. I do understand though what it is like to have a family member tell you how much you need to lose weight at least once a month. That same person has never had to lose weight. Same person offered to pay what insurance doesn't but I am not accepting because I know how it will be reigned over me and every morsel of food I put in my mouth watched when around said person. Been thru something similar with this family member before but not again. Almost ruined our relationship!
