Was waiting for my ride after cardiac and pulmonary clearances yesterday (well, nearly: have to do an at-home sleep study). But a guy asked me what I was there for and I told him. He tells me that I could lose weight by drinking a lot of water: since Water has no calories, I should just keep my stomach full of water. Ohhh . . . should I just go ahead and cancel the surgery, then? 'Cause, you know, that sounds easy!

usually if we have patients scheduled for late surgeries they are npo after Breakfast. I hadn't heard about 2hrs though. I'll have to look into that. We should all be practicing to evidence based standards that are the most up to date and in the best interest of the patient. Thanks for sharing that info. -

Congratulations. I'm hoping that your surgeon will be professional and understanding. My surgeon doesn't e even do bands anymore bc they said there are too many complications and not as successful weight loss. I wish you success.

I'd say if that's all you can tolerate its better than nothing. Try a few different kinds. The ones that I liked before surgery don't taste the same to me now. I did find I like the desert flavors like strawberry cheesecake but with teenage girls in the hose its hard to keep in the house. I bought vanilla Greek yogurt and its good and not too sweet and Greek yogurt is supposed to be higher in Protein. But I just went to the store and bought several different ones and tried them.

So I took your advice on the food and it definitely helped with three pain. I also took my Premier Protein shakes that's you sweet for me now and blended it with a handful of frozen strawberry and drank the whole thing with no pain. This will definitely help me to reach my Protein goal. Thanks so much.

hmills653 got a reaction from akaet in I just might give up caffeine for good
I haven't had caffeine since surgery 5/31. I'm not back to work yet, but otherwise feeling pretty good without it. I used to drink coffee all day long. I also noticed haven't had any palpitations either which probably were related to the caffeine. Prior to surgery, I was told that I could have caffeine at 2 weeks once I was drinking 64 oz of non caffeinated Fluid a day. I was like oh no problem, I'll do that, I need my coffee. Well 5 weeks out and not hitting that goal yet. Curious if anyone gave up caffeine for good. It may be too early yet to know if this will be a permanent change.

I'm 2 months post op and only have a cup occasionally. I was tired of spending the money and having the addiction to caffeine. I enjoy a cup here or there but no frequent or daily use. And wow! It actually works when I do drink it.

I'm still preop but I gave up caffeine years ago. 2011 to be exact. Haven't had anything but Decaf coffee and Water. I never likey sweet drinks and have had my fill during this 3 week pre op diet. Everything sweet... Blah. But wanted to say I have felt great and never needed it. Id stay of the stuff if you can. As you lose weight natural energy will be all you need. I can't wait. Just this 20lbs I've lost on this preop diet has felt great. Can you imagine when more comes off. Who needs caffeine. GrInS

I am over 9 months post-op and I might have a 20ish oz glass of unsweetened iced tea once a week, if even. I mostly drink Water and Powerade Zero. I was the hugest Diet Coke and caffeine addict pre-op, and I went with no caffeine for 3 months post-op (and I have yet to have anything carbonated). At this point, I like it just like it is. Having that monkey off of my back is very nice!

I'm on week 3 and no caffeine yet. My dietitian did say that if I wanted coffee I could have Decaf coffee.
I'm just not craving any coffee at all. So I'm. It missing it at all, but I am drinking decaf tea. I really enjoy it.

I also find that mozzarella string cheese goes down easy and comfortable for me. I also can't do chicken but ground beef is ok such as chili and sloppy joe. I'm 5 weeks out.

I thought I would but at three weeks I had a cup of coffee and I was so so very happy [emoji4]. I was missing my "old friend" food and found the coffee comforting in some weird way. I drink two to three cups a day but that's about what I drank before. If you're ok without it I say stay the course! Especially since you don't want to go back to your old consumption levels.

hmills653 got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Questions about bariatric surgery
I chose the sleeve bc it was less invasive than bypass and my surgeon doesn't do the band dt too many complications with them. My surgery was on 5/31. I can finally say I'm feeling pretty good. I didn't have surgical pain, but I had gas pain for a week. I feel pretty good now though. I am kinda getting used to taking a few bites and being full, what I do is chew well and inn both sides of my mouth so that I can savor the few bites I can have. Because I usually want more but can't. I am currently on soft foods. When I go for my 6 wk appt they said they want to try to transition me off of Protein Shakes but I'm not sure if I'll be ready. I am not able to comfortably eat chicken or meats and I don't eat fish or sea food. I feel like I'm transitioning a little slower than they expected me to but I don't care because I know how my body feels and I'm taking my Vitamins and trying to get the Protein and fluids in. I'm happy I had the surgery. I feel better each week that goes by now. I'm looking forward to going back to work in a few weeks but do worry about drinking enough while I'm there. I already hinted to my manager that I was planning on carrying a small water bottle in my pocket to sip on while there. Anyway, I get sidetracked easily. I'm off my arthritis medicine. My ortho doc gave me a nerve block in my knee the day before surgery so if be able to walk post op pain free and it was amazing and I'm getting a series of gel injections to that knee here in another week on to of the weight I've lost I'm gonna feel like a new woman.

I keep trying to eat stuff I'm not ready for. Today I thought a bean burrito would be soft. Two bites of the tortilla chewed well and I was cursing up a storm. I don't know what's wrong with me. I thought it would be soft enough but it was so painful. Next time I'll just get a cup of pintos and a cup of guacamole or something.

hmills653 got a reaction from RaynaRayne in Do they always go in laparoscopic?
So it sound like you have a $250 deductible which means you have to pay the first $250 off medical bills when the year starts. Then the yearly maximum is $6000 so that means after you have paid $6000 towards your medical bills then the insurance will cover the rest of the year at 100%. So for example I have a $1300 deductible then after I've paid $1300 them my insurance will pay 90%and I pay 10% until I've paid $5000 that is my out of pocket maximum. -
