Little Green got a reaction from TaylorMade4One in Little Green getting little(r)
Made it to 10 pounds lost this morning! Not exactly where I wanted to be but I can't complain. I'm still feeling ill occasionally but not as bad, so hopefully it was just an adjustment period.
One odd thing is I'm having heartburn between meals, not every time but at least once a day. And I've had a reflux issue twice. I rarely ever get heartburn and definitely only get reflux once in a blue moon (maybe 3-4x in my whole adult life). Not sure what the connection is. I'll call my surgeon Monday morning just to make sure.
I'm feeling good. I feel kind of disconnected from surgery, to be honest. I think I was so I incredibly engaged and anxious the first time I was in "go mode" that this time my brain can't get the anxiety juices flowing. But it's not necessarily a bad thing. Just trucking on having my Protein Shakes and Water, biding my time.

Thank you, you actually reminded me that I had some of these in the pantry! I put them in the fridge and tried them yesterday - they are instantly my favorite, they taste so much better than the other ones. I think it's because they're getting their Protein from soy milk, which is quite neutral-flavored, instead of pea protein or other form. (It's not that the others taste awful, they just taste really sweet and artificial.) However, I hope my surgeon doesn't read this lol because they don't quite qualify for the pre-op requirements, only 11g of protein instead of 15. But my other shakes have 20+ grams and the bars have 18-20 grams so it should still balance out over the day. So far my favorite Svelte flavor is Cappuccino.
Today's day 6, I'm still feeling all right hunger- and mood-wise but I'm starting to feel run down and the dark black/purple eye circles are back. I've been in bed most of today, dozing.
I've lost 8 pounds so far, and I hope to lose another 2 lb by tomorrow to hit an even 10 pounds for the week. My goal is to hit 25 pounds lost on my liquid diet - going to add in a daily walk and hopefully get to a better sleep schedule as well, to help things get moving.

Wore shorts and a red and white micro-stripe t-shirt for the first time in 20 years IN PUBLIC! We ran errands, went to our little wine bar and sat on the front porch and people watched. I had iced tea (gallons of it) and he had wine. Shared a Caprese salad, then had a garden salad with a couple bites of his burger and cheese (sans bun) for dinner and I called it a day.
The young whipper snapper serving us said, "I really like your outfit! It's so in style and what all the young people are wearing. He liked my messy bun and the total vibe of it. LOL. First time EVS that has happened to me. I felt like a totally normal size even though I know at 5'4" and 192.6 lbs I'm not "normal" size--it was a beginning of reorganizing how I frame myself in my mind!
I feel like I've turned a corner. This morning, I might go try to walk by myself for the first time in the Nature Preserve Park near us.

Hallooooo little miss Fluff! I've missed you too. I know I promised not to leave, but you know how it goes. Anyway, at least I'm back, right?!
The surgeon's office called today and asked me to do a 3-week liquid diet, starting tomorrow instead of May 3. My surgeon appears to be concerned about my belly size and made several comments about it at yesterday's appointment, so I'm guessing that's why. I'm fairly proportionate, I thought, in terms of weight distribution - though I'm definitely apple-shaped, so I see her point. I feel a little off about it, though, like maybe she's not confident about my safety for some reason. I've seen men 100 lbs heavier than me with much larger bellies than me get through surgery safely so I'm just hoping she's being super cautious.
I can't actually start my liquids tomorrow; my choir has our semester performance and if we do not attend we cannot receive a passing grade in the course. I really don't want to faint after standing on stage under hot lights for three hours, and nor do I want to fail my class right before I get my degree, so I'll have to start Friday. I'll report back

Redmaxx I’m sorry to hear that. I’d definitely want to see a specialist if that is indeed the case. maybe Track your own numbers for a while and see if it’s consistent. ??? Maybe you had a spike in glucose for that day for whatever reason, I don’t know. But after losing 100lbs+ and having most of the fat out of your arteries, your body SHOULD be processing sugar normally. Unless your diet is high fat, that could also play role. High blood sugar numbers is just a symptom, not the cause.
i second @FluffyChix, eliminate foods that would cause a spike. I’m even an advocate for Plant based diets, as this is what I do. Lots of veggies and fruits, with grains and legumes. Look into it. There’s a book called Proteinaholic by bariatric surgeon Dr Garth’s Davis. He talks about diabetes and the links to diet in it. If you have time look in to that as well. I hope you find what works and that it can be remedied without meds!!!

Little Green reacted to Creekimp13 in Is there anyone who doesn't stall? And if so...
My experience has been a series of plateaus and sudden drops. I feel like the coyote in a road runner cartoon. Fall sharply to the next ledge, stay there for weeks, then another drop, and another stall.
    Bodies are weird.
For thousands of years we've developed dozens of adaptations to fight starvation. This whole problem of fighting deadly extra weight is a very new to human evolution.

But your life isn’t over. You are only 30. As frustrating as it is with surgery there are potential complications, that’s why we sign consents to let surgeons operate on us. There are no guarantees that each of us will tolerate the operation the same. You cannot predict what will happen to you after surgery.
There are many risks to remaining obese as well.
The only thing you can do now is focus on healing and following your diet guidelines. Not all people that have complications have them forever, so don’t get stuck in a negative way of thinking that what you are experiencing now will last the rest of your life.
Start on Miralax for the Constipation. Not pooping can make you miserable. Work on meeting the fluid goals. One day at a time.
If you continue to have issues maybe it is prudent to have a second opinion.

Not true. Someone I know on this forum had issues with a single dose of oral NSAID.
Look, people with RNY cannot take NSAIDs, ever. I had to sign a paper saying I wouldn't. That is a big, bright shining line behind which we are safe. "Oh, a dose or two here or there, as long as it's not high doses, or for too many days in a row" is a fuzzy line that patients are notoriously bad at toeing. Stay behind the bright line of NO NSAIDs EVER!

I'm sorry you're dealing with the nut allergy! That's sooo frustrating. Definitely glad to hear that your NUT is open to a plant-based diet!
For whole food concentrated Protein, like you said, Beans are definitely the way to go. You can eat hummus or refried beans as well, they are a bit smoother/less filling so you might be able to eat more that way. Another good option is soy, particular soy milk. Make a smoothie with soy milk or add it to your oatmeal and that's 8-12g of protein just from the milk depending on how much you use. (Most other plant milks are low in protein.)
In terms of non-concentrated protein, you can get it from literally any whole food. Whole grain Pasta has a pretty good amount, about 4 grams in half a serving (1 oz dry). Most plant foods will have 1-3g in a serving and throughout the day that adds up.
For plant-based protein that's more processed, like a supplemental protein (which you will definitely need this early post-op) there are some really tasty protein bars I've found called Nugo which are vegan and made from soy protein. I believe many of the flavors do not contain nuts, but you'd have to check to be sure. You can buy them on Amazon or in the Protein Bar aisle at Whole Foods. (And maybe other places!) You can also look for protein powders made from pea protein, brown rice protein, etc. as well. Orgain is one common brand. I just found some ready-made vegan shakes (like premier protein) at Target that I believe are Evolve brand, but I haven't tried them yet. Hopefully they taste all right!
Probiotics... well that's a whole other discussion LOL (basically if you're not eating animal products you likely don't have a big need for probiotics as the plants help your gut bacteria stay happy on their own) but to answer your direct question, there are some fermented plant options! Sauerkraut if you like it, and kombucha tea are two good places to start. You can also make yogurt and kefir from soy milk, although I haven't done it myself (yet!) so I can't give you specific guidance.
    Good luck!!
