  1. Kelly take a look at the Ketogenic style of eating, you will find a lot of people are able to get fit and look good doing it. You can get your Healthy Fats from Avocado, Olive Oil, Almonds, Salmon and many other foods. You can find many wonderful recipes that increase the quality of food at the same time you are decreasing the Quantity of food.
  2. My Insurance wouldn't cover Bariatric Surgery and Honestly knowing what I know now even if it did I still would choose to go have Dr. Illan with BariatricPal perform my Surgery. My Surgery was $4,900 but that was because I had a high BMI yours would be $4,399. I have never been treated that good in the States. The Great part was one bill no extras and a4 day Vacation.
  3. I sure did and it totally changed my opinion about out of country surgeries. I need to post the pictures of the Hospital and the Hotel soon. I Promise I wouldn't refer them if they were not over the Top Amazing. I think that your Companion will enjoy the experience just a little more than you because the Valets there are The Best. Dr. Illan has a team like no other. I never wanted for anything the whole time I was there and the Best Part was the skill with which he performs Surgery. I Trust him with my Life. BariatricPal has a Facebook Page with thousands of members that all feel the way I feel. Add it and you will see from other points of view what I am saying. Feel free to contact me to discuss my experience.
  4. If you stick to the Liquid Diet you will feel so much better after the fourth day. I was able to breath better and it seemed that my walking improved dramatically. Also the confidence that you will gain as the pounds come off during the liquid stage is Amazing!!!
  5. Give Dr.Illan with BariatricPal a look over He is Amazing and his staff treat you better than you have ever been treated. I am pretty sure that they are doing a series about a patient that just had the revision done and they are documenting Her success. The Facility he works out of is New and Beautiful and his prices are more than fare.
  6. I use the Ketogenic style Diet and has been working Great for me. It's harder when going through Sleeve Surgery because when you are on liquids almost all soups will have too many Carbs, but it has been well worth it. I see many people get and keep Muscular Builds with this form of lifestyle change.
  7. I can only speak about my Experience with BariatricPal but two other women had the surgery the same day I had mine and the did not have a companion. Both women had no problems and enjoyed their selves especially on the two days at the Hotel and shopping. The Valets take the Very Best Care of you and Treat you like Family ( You know the side of your Family that you actually like.)
  8. When you make your eggs put them in the blender and Blend at a high speed for 2-3 minutes. This will make them light and fluffy and easier to digest. I pour a little Almond milk as I blend them and it makes them delicious. My limit is one large egg any more than that and I feel sick.
  9. Check the Carbs in your Protein shake, I use Whey Isolate because its lower in Carbs. Also 1 cup of applesauce has 43 Carbs so you might find a different snack that works better with your Diet Macros. What types of drinks do you have during the day? The Ketogenic Lifestyle is what I have been doing for the last 3 months and by keeping my Carbs at or Below 20 I have been Blessed to have good loses. The final piece is you might be having several NSV Non Scale Victories as your body is making the transition to fat Burning and Muscle building. Good Luck and we look forward to watching you make the transition.
  10. This Forum Helped me to contact others and truly research my Doctor as well as learn so many Health related answers. The search function is your Best Friend. We look forward to watching your Transformation both physically and Mentally.
  11. I think everyone that has ever had this Surgery has felt this way, Heck I know I did. The Truth is you made a decision with a Rational mindset and to alter that decision out of fear will leave you with regret till the end of time. Your Health is Bigger than your fear so take a leap of Faith and improve your quality of Life. If you are having any doubts go to the Before and after photos and see how much Better your Life will look.
  12. Oasis of Hope has very large comfortable Private rooms. The whole BariatricPal Team provide a level of service, care and compassion that cannot be Beat. You are more than welcome to contact me with any questions you might have also I can upload pictures of the Hospital and Hotel that I took while I was there if you would like.
  13. If you asked me 6 months ago I would have said NO but after finding out that the $4.25 per hour self-pay plan Insurance that I have refused to pay for Bariatrics I changed my mind. I did the research spoke to 20 or more patients of the Dr. I chose. Followed him on Facebook and watched his surgeries on You Tube. I set the date and immediately started eating like I had already had the surgery. Feb 24th came and I boarded the plane for the trip that would change my Life forever. From the moment we landed everything was taken care of, I have NEVER been treated so well in my Life. The facility was Awesome and exactly as the pictures on the website had shown. The Staff was caring, compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable. Every time they explained what they were doing before they did it. My Surgeon was able to answer all my questions and put me at ease. My companion had 24hr access to a Valet that was nothing short of Perfect. She was waited on like Royalty. After the Surgery and leak test on the third day we were moved to a excellent Hotel and Casino and were treated to unlimited access to Tijuana and all its neat sites. I never felt scared or in Danger. US with Insurance $24,000 Self-Pay $18,000 Bariatric Pal $4,400 plus $500 because I had a high BMI. That was total unlike here in the states when you would get 3 or 4 more bills for everyone else service. I can't tell you how pleased I am with Dr. Illan and the life saving surgery he performed. Bill Yanez and Stacy and the whole Bariatric-Pal team are so efficient and Awesome that now I have a whole new Perspective on Mexico and all of the Wonderful People That Call it Home.
  14. Some Items to carry to the Hospital Comfy Bed Clothes (Great for walking the Halls without the wonderful Backdraft that a operating gown can provide Gas x Strips ( these things can be a lifesaver Slip on shoes because lets face it you wont want to bend to tie your shoes Extension Cord ( Cheap Dollar tree one so you can charge your phone and tablet Heating Pad ( I didn't use mine but it was there if I needed it Basic toiletries Post Op Eating Bone broth sugar free Jello Natural Fruit non sugar added juices Atkins or Isopure have a see through Protein bottled drink Bullion cubes chicken, Beef or Pork
  15. Totally understandable how you are feeling my surgery was 2/24 I do miss food but what I don't miss is the reoccurring anxiety and feeling like I was going to have a Heart attack at any second. I have joined probably 10 different Ketogenic Facebook groups most of them are ones that share recipes and help coach one another to a healthier lifestyle. I find that when my mind is getting the better of me that moment is the Best time to take a walk. Watching others eat in front of you will never be fun but it is the price we pay because we are social eaters. I know exactly where every Carb in a pizza is taking me, right back to having no Hope and to a sense of despair. I have a feeling that your whole point of view will be different in 30 days
  16. I just got back from Mexico with Dr. Illan and I have to say that I have never been treated so well or felt as Safe and Secure as I did when I put my Health in Dr. Illan and his staff's hands. You will meet everyone prior to surgery. His Anesthesiologist is Amazing, his Cardiologist thorough and Knowledgeable all of his nurses gentle yet caring. His skills as a Surgeon are impeccable and honestly he will put you at ease by answering all of your questions. I honestly thought in the Beginning that this type of care is just too good to be true but I can Honestly say I would recommend him to any and everyone. The Best part is how well the Valets take care of you and your companion.
  17. So this is Breakfast lunch and dinner post op. Chicken Broth Jello Gatorade Fresh Squeezed Apple Juice. Water You can have all of these on the Pre-op. Clear Liquid phase as well.
  18. I have Faith that your Breakthrough is on the way. It sounds like you have a Great plan so keep working it and the losses will start showing on the scale. Are you able to keep your Carbs low like in the 20 and below range because it seems like Carb restriction has been the most help in my weight loss so far.
  19. I weight tomorrow at work to see how much I lost by carb restriction and then Friday I have my Surgery in Mexico with Dr. Illan. I can loose weight heck I have done it my whole life but I always gain back more than I lost. The plan is to attack it from 3 sides VSG Surgery Carb restriction & Exercise Overeaters Anonymous the last one for accountability and to pay it forward.
  20. Like everyone has said before me Diet is definitely the most important of the two. As a man in the past I would lift heavy and do moderate cardio and got good results but this time around by getting rid of the Carbs well 20 or less per day I have had Great success. The sodas and grazing convenience store food had me out of control gaining over 100 pounds in a year. Take a look at Ketogenic style eating and you will find with some adjustments to your diet you can shed weight rapidly without losing piles of Muscle.
  21. I think tomorrow will be interesting because its clear liquids followed by a 2.am Wake-up to catch a 5:30 am flight to Mx and nothing by mouth after 12 am. The next Several days have been talked about for 15 years but now its time to set my Fear of the unknown aside and make a change for the BETTER!!!
  22. I think you just get use to it. I am on 16th day of liquids 3 Protein shakes a day tomorrow is Clear Liquids and Friday is my surgery. If I had to be truthful I am tired but not anymore than the guy inside of me that carried around 84 more pounds from when I started this Adventure. Keep the Faith Don't Cheat because you are only cheating yourself and risking your Health.
  23. I Performed a Task that no Human Being should be able to do and now I am looking around for my Trophy. That's right, my Daughters and Son in laws have a Sunday Funday tradition by spending each Sunday having a meal and going to do an activity. Well I am in the Liquid Phase of Pre-op and we were running close on time so they chose a Chinese Buffet so we could get in and out fast. I asked for a water and couple slices of Lemon and watched and enjoyed my family as they ate. Was it hard well yes slightly but so worth it. My kids respect my decision and offered not to go eat but I told them that this is our new reality and that the time spent with them was always what I enjoyed most on these days anyway. Feb 24th is in just a couple of days and I am going to treat my surgery like it is a Vacation and Cross Mexico off of my places I have never been list.
  24. Have you heard the phrase "Like A Deer In The Headlights" that explains most of us Cavemen style Men. We know Valentines is coming but we put it off so at the last minute we run into our local Grocery after our buddies have reminded us at work that we BETTER take something home. I would throw them away I know it sounds wasteful but the feeling that you get from cutting the strings that tie you to chocolate will be Liberating. You could give them to friends but do you really want to add to someone else food Addiction. To All the Women Out There it is time to start asking for EXACTLY what you want from us here are the unofficial rules. 1) 2 weeks before a Holiday write a list of things you would like as a gift (give us 3 options so we feel like we made the choice) 2) One week tell us where we might find said items!!! 3) The day before remind us what you want (Doing this while you're Naked Surely Helps Us remember) 4) Day of Praise us for getting you Exactly what you wanted (This makes us think it was our own Idea) Now that I have gave you one of the Many Mysteries about how men's minds work Go Forth and enjoy your Holidays!!!
  25. Let me speak for everyone and say Full Body Picks at your High Weight are as much Fun as a Root Canal. I am looking forward to standing in front of the crowd on Group Pictures instead of hiding behind 3 or 4 people so you can only see my head. I Love Myself Plenty and Honestly Spit a lot of Game for a Big Guy but I have a lot of room for improvement and intend on putting the Best Me back out in the World. So one of my Goals for 2017 is to stop hiding from the Camera and expose myself just as I am and let the changes be seen in the Photo's.
