IV fluids, gas, Water retention, hormone dump from surgery, etc..
Patience, Grasshopper. It's not going to happen overnight. Now is the time to hide the scale and concentrate on fluids, Protein and healing. The weight loss will follow.

If your practitioner is pressuring you to lose a certain amount of weight by a specific deadline, they are being highly unprofessional and unrealistic. Its great to give you goals, but not at the expense of making you feel like a complete failure because you didn't live up to their expectations. It's ridiculous. They should be thrilled with any and all progress you are making.
I'm trying to understand what is so time sensitive about your health without prying? Are you awaiting an organ transplant or medical procedure you have to lose a certain amount of weight for? If so, I definitely understand the concern, but if you are doing everything you can possibly do, you're going to lose at the rate your body wants to lose. Why stress yourself out about it? And your surgeons or doctors certainly shouldn't be stressing you out about it, either.

I often wonder how many people that get WLS have dieted and lost weight before? Me? I've lost and gained 50, 60, 70 pounds 3 or 4 times.
Sure, the losses with WLS can be quicker, especially in the beginning. But after the initial large losses, the amount of weight lost for most seems to be on par with normal dieting, which if done in a healthy way should be 2-5 pounds a week.
I honestly don't know where everyone gets their unrealistic expectations?

    What's the rush?
I took the opportunity to learn about nutrition and exercise along the way in order to actually KEEP the weight I lost off, which over 50% of us will fail to do. That is far more important than how quickly it comes off.

I'm happy with even 1lb of weight loss. It's more weight loss than I would have had without the surgery. I'll get to my goal.... eventually.

I think I had unrealistic expectations. I kept hearing about people who lost 90 lbs in 3 months sort of thing, but I forgot that they were starting from a place with much more to lose, which helps it fall off faster. I'm evidently going to have to be content with ~4lbs per week.

Maybe I shouldn’t even say this. But my diet was an unsweetened Protein Drink for two meals, and a dinner of a good Protein serving and veggies. I felt like I was literally starving every day though the second week was easier than the first (2 total). I did it to shrink the liver, I forced myself because I had only one small window of time last year to have the surgery.
Then when I flew up to meet the surgeon the day before surgery I told him how hard it was and how hungry I was all day and he said, “oh, then you could have added another protein drink!”

Exactly the same here, no preop diet, just clear and a colon prep the day before surgery.
I had a liver biopsy at the time of surgery. It came out healthy and pink, with no sign of fatty liver disease.
I also would have been terrible at a preop diet, I thoroughly enjoyed my food funerals!

I never had a pre op diet. Just Clear Liquids the day before.
My surgeon told me he saw at a seminar that the liver shrinking is so minimal, it makes no difference with the surgery, so he doesn't require a pre op diet. Lucky me, because it looks like it would be a living hell, lol.

I airfry fish and chicken all the time.
Lean chicken, egg wash, and coconut flour (or almond) is fantastic with a tiny tiny spray of oil

If you're making chicken I STRONGLY suggest you brine it. It tastes awesome and makes it juicy.
I would avoid all the high fat alternatives. While fat isn't bad for you, it's high in calories. And if you're a person with a history of being very fat (cough cough all of us) I would try to keep the Protein high and calories low

I eat this all the time. We haven't fried traditionally in years though, just an air fryer. As a huge fan of fried chicken since I was a kid, I can honestly say that that the best fried chicken I ever had was fried in lard in a cast Iron skillet, 2nd best was air fried with pork rind coating. Seriously that good in my opinion.

I wouldn’t advance myself without the surgeon/teams ok. Just follow your plan and stay safe.
Or call your surgeon and ask

"I feel extremely hungry ALL the time! I feel like I have no restriction. Also I’ve been eating junk food with no problems"
That is the issue right there. Carbs and sugar begets carbs and sugar. The more you eat, the more you crave and the more "hungry" you feel. You're probably eating a lot of "slider" foods, also, which can be eaten and broken down easier in our sleeves so we can eat much more of it. chips, popcorn, Cookies, and crackers are some examples of slider foods. I'd be willing to bet you can't eat over 3 or 4 oz of chicken breast, though.
I would start over with just Protein, protein, protein. Anything your heart desires. Steak, burgers (no bun) bacon....the sky's the limit! As much fat as you want. Full fat butter, nuts, cheese, etc. Kick the sugar and white carbs. When you get a hankering to snack, keep a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store and pick on that. Protein and fat keeps us satisfied longer, and that's why it's highly recommended for WLS patients. Its dense, so we can't eat as much and keeps us satiated longer.
Also, have you thought about therapy for help with your issues with food?

lol, I love how my comment of slaughtering a chicken links to the BariatricPal Store. If I need to slaughter a chicken, at least I can do it in a bariatric friendly way.

Greensleevie got a reaction from watsongirl17 in How do you, personally, define a carb?
I keep it fairly simple. Anything "white" like bread, rice, Pasta, potatoes etc I tend to stay away from. I'm 4+ years out and in maintenance, so I will eat whole grain breads, crackers, and rice occasionally. I get most of my daily carbs from dairy, fruits and veggies these days.
