RunningWithScissors got a reaction from SandyToes143 in DEPRESSED AND DISCOURAGED
i was sleeved in January. Only lost about 20 pounds the first 3 months. Not 20 pounds per month. 20 pounds total! I was thinking WTF???? I was sticking to the plan exactly and the scale was not really moving much. I couldn't imagine how that was even possible. But then the strangest thing happened, at about the 3rd month the weight loss took off and i have been losing a decent amount each month ever since. Didnt reduce my calories at all, if anything i started eating more as my tummy healed. Not sure if this has been anyone else's experience but i just wanted to tell you just because its slow now doesn't mean it will always be that way.

Glad to see someone talking about this. I am about 5 months out and just starting to feel somewhat normal again. I never completely realized the power food had over me.
I have a loving and supportive husband and family. No problems there. But breaking up with food was traumatic. No joke! I felt depressed and empty the first 4 months. Like someone died. It does take awhile to grieve for what you have lost, but I am not regretting it in the least. Even though my weight loss has been slow and frustrating, it was the best money I have ever spent! I feel so much better physically. I'm 56 years old, and have some arthritis. Carrying around an extra 90 lbs was pretty painful
Hang in there. It does get better. I have finally stopped grieving and just accepted that food is no longer the central focus of my life. I really don't think much about it anymore. I think those first few months when you have to be super focused on what you're eating (and not eating) it actually makes it tougher. Once you are eating normal food and get into a food routine you can stop obsessing over the food and then it becomes easier.

I'm sure it's not productive, but it certainly is normal! I did it too.
I like your analogy to breaking up with a partner. Breaking up with food really is just like that! I felt depressed and empty the first 4 months. I have a wonderful and supportive husband, so I had everything going for me. But I just couldn't shake the feeling of loss. I'm 5 months out and just starting to feel normal again. It takes awhile.

RunningWithScissors got a reaction from Lifechange76 in Has anyone NOT lost their hair?
I was sleeved in January and I have not experienced any Hair loss. My hair is not very thick, so I think I would have noticed if I had. But I am a slow loser. I feel like that may play a part. The weight loss was unbelievably slow the first 3 months. I have only started losing at a good pace this last 2 months. I started at 214 and weigh 170 this morning.

I am 55 and have a baby face and have always looked much younger than I am, but I am fully prepared that once this fat is gone those wrinkles are gonna come out BIG time. But I would rather be wrinkled and be able to walk without excruciating back and knee pain, so I guess this is my fate too.

My sleeve is scheduled for January 17, 2017. I was a little concerned about the hair loss. My hair is thin enough on it's own without any help! It seemed from other posts it was inevitable that you will lose hair, but seems you are saying you got your Protein in and didn't lose any. That gives me hope!

I had my sleeve surgery Jan 17. I'm eating puréed food now, but i can eat way more that it seems other people on the forums are eating. Kinda concerns me. I have 1/2 cup (4 oz) containers and i can easily eat that much without feeling much restriction. Seems like everyone else eats 2 bites and is full. What's up with that?

I just had my surgery this morning (outpatient.). Sleeve along with a hernia repair. Surgery was at 9 AM, was discharged at 11:30 AM. I haven't had ANY pain meds since leaving the hospital and am having absolutely no problems getting my Water and popsicles down. This ssems suspiciously easy. LOL. What's up with that?

I wish you all the best! I'm now 9 days out from surgery and honestly feel better than i did before surgery. I have experienced improvements in all the pre op pains i had, for example back pain. I'm so unbelievably happy that i did this! I am sure you will do great too!

I wish the same for you too!! I'm 55 yrs old and was afraid my age may make the recovery a little tougher, but it's now the next day and STILL feel absolutely fine. I was most worried about not be able to get down fluids postoperative, but again, no problems there either.
I'm certainly not complaining, but after ready a lot of post on this forum I am really shocked it's been this non-eventful

I live in Phoenix, AZ, but there are lots and lots of outpatient programs all over the country. If you want to go that route you won't have any trouble finding one. I was actually going to go to Dallas initially because they have a good outpatient program, but then found out the same place (called Evolve) had a program now in Phoenix. Of course for those that have insurance or can afford it, I would recommend staying in the hospital at least overnight, but for those of us that have no other options, this was affordable and so far, so good

i am now on the 5th day post op and still doing great. A little sore, but not bad. That's great that you can get this done when you don't have to worry about a return to work right away. I think physically I will be fine to return to work, but the constant effort to get fluids in and such will be a big distraction. I normally get so busy I skip lunches, etc, which I can't do now.

Well i knew this wouldn't last☹️ Started running a fever last night and felt pretty crappy. But the fever is down today and i feel better but i do have some pain now. Not bad, but it's there. The fluids are still going down ok, which i was most worried about. But 3 oz is the limit. My stomach won't accept more than that until i give it a 20 min rest.

Glad to hear someone else had a relatively easy time at the beginning. I was starting to feel like something was wrong to feel this good. LOL
I am fully prepared for this to get tougher when i start eating pureed food. Hope it's not too difficult. I did start experiencing some gas pain about an hour ago but not too bad. It probably helps that my husband is forcing me to walk for 5 minutes every hour, like the doctor ordered. Honestly i'm not disciplined enough to do on my own so its good he stayed home with me this week.

people seem shocked this operation is performed outpatient. Research shows is is being done outpatient more and more now. I was skeptical myself, so I understand. I think when this is done outpatient the doctors really cover all bases to make sure you are good to go home. I was given a ton of different medications to prevent nausea (which I have had trouble with in past surgeries). I had minimal nausea and it was gone completely in just a few hours. They also do the leak test while you are under anesthesia. And they put some kind of pain Meds in while you are under that last a few days. All I know is that worked. But the floor might drop out of this whole thing tomorrow! LoL

I was a little sceptical about doing this outpatient at first. I did a fair amount of research and many recent studies in the last two years have been published that say that this surgery is safe outpatient. Of course i only have my own experience to draw from, if i was having complications I would be singing a different tune.

I was plenty worried about doing this outpatient, but I'm self pay so it was kind of necessary to keep costs down. My surgeon said they administer a long lasting pain killer of some sort internally that lasts about 3 days to keep you comfortable during the days you would normally experience the most pain. So far so good! I'm glad to see someone else experienced an easy recovery! I was starting to think they just made a few incisions and then skipped the rest of the surgery!

I dragged my sorry butt up out of bed and did laps around the house and it sure did make the gas pain subside. But I get that all you probably want to do is sleep. I was rediculously sleepy for 3 days after surgery.
