I was told not to eat baby food because they add sugar and salt.

This is a perfect example of over reliance on the tool itself, and why doing so is the reason people end up regaining. Two bites of fried chicken? No problem! A whole peice of fried chicken and a few bites of mashed potatoes and gravy? Regain city. A whole piece of grilled chicken breast and a few bites of veggies? You're more likely to keep the weight off.
Let's be real here. This is why WLS is really only temporary. Our good habits are what should be permanent.

I'm highly positive that your surgeon gave you a paper that states going back to old eating habits will ruin this for you. Mine did.
WLS isn't going to magically make you thinner. It's only a tool to help you along and give you a jump start. What happens in the long run is based on what you to do yourself AFTER your surgery.
So, first of all, drop the chips and bread. That's a good place to start :).

@Introversion is exactly right. Nope that is normal. Your sleeve isn't stretched. You are making choices of things that are making it easy for you to eat more than you should.
I can eat all the toppings off a large pizza. I can still only eat 4-5 ounces of steak.
You are making bad food choices you can't blame on your sleeve.

I just read that during first 6 months stomach can hold 1-2ounces, 6 months it can hold 4-6 and at 1 year and beyond it can hold 6-8 ounces. If we were to only eat a few bites of food long term it would be catastrophic to our health and we would be malnourished, the early restriction is great for rapid weight loss in he beginning.
Like commenter above me, size doesn't matter as much as what we put in our mouth. Hope this helps.

Nope. A sleeved stomach is expected to relax and stretch somewhat. For a more detailed explanation, watch some of Dr. Matthew Weiner's YouTube videos. That tight postsurgical restriction does not last forever.
He states that, by three to five years out, a typical sleever is able to eat two-thirds of a plate of food. Compare that to the three to five bites of food we were eating at a couple of months post-op.
At two years out I can eat volumes of food that had been impossible during the first couple of months. I can eat two slices of pizza, although I choose not to. I can eat an entire 6-inch sub sandwich, although I choose not to. I can eat two small fast food cheeseburgers, although I choose not to.
The further out you get from surgery, the more critical your food choices are. People regain weight from slider foods such as pizza and chips, not from dense Proteins such as chicken breast and turkey. Even if your stomach has stretched to a 16-ounce capacity, a resleeve will not help if you eat crap.
The size of the stomach does not matter nearly as much as what you put into it.

rosefromcali got a reaction from Kris_Aloha in May 4th sleeve here with pre-op testing today!
Today is my pre-op appointment with my surgeon, immediately followed by pre-op testing. This is getting real! I'm so excited. My surgery is this Thursday!
As everyone here is probably sure of, the best thing is hearing an approval from insurance, but once you're within that 5 day threshold, it becomes so real that so many emotions come up. For me, this is something I have waited to hear for a long time. I recovered from Sepsis Tachycardia in June and since then, my health has not been the best. I was told if I didn't change my eating habits, and the way I stay active, I won't make it to see my daughter grow up. After 2 months of recovery, I looked into surgery and it has been the best decision I have ever made. Investing time into seeing doctors and following my health has inspired me so much to change that after surgery is done, I am going back to school to finish nursing.
The things on my mind as of now: the thought of being put under for a few hours, recovery and complications, and adjusting to my new stomach (obviously).
I've heard from many on the forums that after surgery, some have experienced a complete removal of cravings because of the part of the stomach that is removed. I'm hoping to not have many complications after surgery. My entire life, I've always been a 2 percent person. Meaning, if something can go wrong, when the doctors say "there's only 2% of people who get this", I have ended up being that person 4/5 times. Knocking on wood and hoping for the best!!!! (Sorry for the excess rambling, I think I'm just nervous and excited all at once)
Anyone else being sleeved May 4th?

I had a mini Cadbury egg the other night, just one, it was delish. I'm 15wks post op and down 76lbs. I do allow myself a little treat from time to time but I also count it in my daily values and hold myself accountable. I think that's more important, accountability than never allowing yourself another treat again. We are all human.

I agree and hold myself fully accountable. Through all I learned about this surgery pre op is that we won't have to deny ourselves anything but instead enjoy everything in moderation. Once again I don't regret the 3 peeps as I got all my Protein in and only had about 600 calories for the day. The 75 calorie peeps aren't going to derail my new lifestyle

I never said I ate large volumes or fast. Wrong person buddy. I can't eat much at all. A few teaspoons of tuna and I'm full.

I got my call from the insurance on Friday, and today I talked with my surgeons office. Scheduled surgery is May 4th. Only have a liquid diet for the night before but I'm choosing to do a few extra days. I'm so bummed I didn't get in towards the end of April but happy it was approved nonetheless. [emoji847]

I have UHC. The plan my employer has is very good but still requires a 6 month diet plan. My PCP just has me weigh in every month. As far as other requirements, I had blood work done, a psych evaluation. I had to have an EGD and a nutritional class as well. The center that I need to go to requires 3 "blocks". I'm currently completing block 2, so still more to come. If your employer has a benefits book, look over Bariatric Services. Everything will be noted there.

I'm about 4 1/2 months out and hit 76 pounds down yesterday morning. The first pic is a pic I took about 3 weeks after my surgery and was taken in September of 2016 (so embarrassing!). The second pic I took this morning. I apologize for the angle, I was in a bit of a hurry when I took it. This is definitely one of the best decisions I have made in my life! Good luck to all my fellow sleevers!

Sorry this is not really totally weight loss related but I have no real other outlet for this. Tomorrow is my wedding anniversary, or rather what should be my anniversary. It is a day I should be celebrating with my husband. But that joy and celebration was stolen from me by the person who promised he would never leave. Five months ago on what I thought was a normal Friday I went to work and my husband was taking our two younger kids to spend the day with their older sister. Well after he acted like everything was perfectly normal he came home from dropping off the kids and packed up everything of his from the house, he took half of the little bit of money we had and I got a text that said I'm sorry this isn't working for me anymore, I'm moving out. We had not been fighting, things had been fine or so I thought.
I try really hard to keep a happy face on for the kids but I am still grieving the loss of my marriage so much. When I first had surgery he was very supportive but it seemed as I got smaller he became more and more withdrawn. Things really felt like they shifted when I became smaller then him. He is a husky guy but has never been obese though. Thankfully I have never been really an emotional eater so through all of this I have still continued to lose weight and keep up with my goals but it is so hard.
I guess I don't really have a major point to this thread. I'm not really looking for sympathy or anything, just needed somewhere to vent for a minute. I don't have any real outlet.
